Just in time for Discover Islam Week, Campusalam will be showcasing some of the finest Muslim Student talent on three campuses across the nation in Leeds, Birmigham and London.

Watch students pit their wits against professional Muslim comedians as they unfold student issues in an original comedy quiz show called Comedislam.

The videos of the Leeds show are now available. Students had to answer the question, "Are vegetables halal?" Watch a clip of the show and find out what they said!

The Christmas Day Bomber and the Campus Extremism Debate

Since the arrest of Umar Faruk Abdulmutallab after a failed attempt to detonate a bomb on an airplane on Christmas Day, there has been a substantial amount of media coverage on his time in Britain.

Much attention has been given to his years as a student at University College London and his role on that campus as the Islamic Society (ISoc) President. This association is making many students and university staff uneasy. Campusalam offers a wealth of information for both staff and students in dealing critically with such controversial issues.

Under Suspicion: Campusalam Resource Highlight

In our article, The Christmas Day Bombing and the Campus Extremism Debate, we highlighted some resources already available on campusalam.org. The Under Suspicion resource helps students to respond critically and creatively if they or their friends are coming under suspicion from others around them.

'What evidence do you have for this? And if so, why is this happening? Is it a misunderstanding on their part of religious practice, concepts like jihad, and so on? Is it hostility to Islam generally? Is it because of events or activities that you are holding, or how some people are conducting themselves?'

Leeds University Student Wins the "My Campusalam is..." Competition

The Campusalam Team embarked on a 10 campus tour during Freshers' Week. We asked all the students we could find one question, "Campusalam is about supporting students to make their vision of change a reality. What's your Campusalam?" We collected scores of responses, some inspirational, some incomprehensible. A lot made us laugh ("My Campusalam is no exams!"). Check out our highlight reel of responses. We had a tough time picking a winner, but we finally did. Congratulations to our winner: Nusrat Choudhry from Leeds University! Her winning response, "My Campusalam is breaking down stereotypes among non-Muslims about Islam and that Muslims have about each other." It was a long answer, but it inspired us. It's more than visionary words. Nusrat is working to make her vision of change a reality in her role as Head Sister in the Leeds Islamic Society. As a prize, Nusrat will receive a Creative Vado HD video camera to show the world what she and her friends at Leeds are doing to make positive changes happen on campus.
