The CBC reports that Harper is ready to start "rebuilding this great country".

Call me paranoid but I read a lot into those words. The word 'rebuild' implies that the country is broken. It also implies that there are going to be a lot of changes to fix those broken parts.

On a superficial level hindsight is always 20/20. But I prefer to think the Tories won simply because the timing was right for a change. People were fed up with Liberal corruption and wanted to make a statement.

It's all about timing and Harper was in the right place at the right time. He won by default. It's really that simple.

I can't help but feel a little sorry for the guy. A man who always wanted to be Prime Minister that ended with such a short tenure. Martin had to put up with so much nonsense from Chretien just to get the job and then had to carry all his left over baggage.

He must feel very disappointed. But then again he's got that nice juicy pension and...&lt;br/&gt;
