Mom and Pop Courses are Ready!

noreply@blogger.com (candace moss) — Fri, 30 Sep 2011 15:27:00 +0000

After many months of blood, sweat, and tears (okay, mostly just sitting and writing), www.momandpopphoto.com is finally live, with self-paced courses (full-color PDFs) available for purchase.

The 101 Course Set (Portraits 101 and Camera 101) takes you step-by-step through the process of getting gorgeous portraits of your children. They are in-depth tutorials covering everything from the 3 most important camera settings to exactly how to find great natural light.

While the courses cover the really substantial portrait lessons, our new blog is going to offer other fun stuff for the photographer in the family, including location and wardrobe tips, fun ways to get your kids to cooperate, and lots more. Visit the Mom and Pop blog here. or find us on Facebook here.

Thanks so much to everyone who has helped make these courses wonderful, and to all those great cheerleaders on the sidelines.

Have a beautiful day!

Moving onward...

noreply@blogger.com (candace moss) — Sun, 17 Jul 2011 19:01:00 +0000

As of June 2011, I am saying farewell to private photo sessions. I am now devoting myself fully to my passion for teaching parents how to take beautiful photos of their own children.

My face-to-face classes turned out to be very popular, so I have taken all the lessons and put them in a self-paced format that will be available online very soon. Parents everywhere, get ready to upgrade your family photos!

My Photo Classes for Parents

noreply@blogger.com (candace moss) — Tue, 12 Oct 2010 14:50:00 +0000

Fall Update

Fabulous Photos of Children [Part One]
It's all about helping parents learn to take beautiful photos of their children. I've stopped taking private sessions for a while, and I'm focusing solely on teaching.

Our September and October classes at the Arboretum have been great. I love sharing all my little secrets with moms, dads, grandparents, even teenagers. They are soaking it up, and they seem quite happy to finally know how to use their cameras!

We've been covering lighting and composition, as well as basic camera settings. We're keeping it simple and fun, and I've seen big improvements in their work based on these few easy lessons.

I hope to have many more classes in the spring. (all my classes are booked through November). If you are interested in finding out about spring classes, you can "like" my photography page on facebook, and you will automatically see my updates on your wall. Or you can email me at info@candacemoss.com if you would like to be on the waiting list now for spring.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you are enjoying this beautiful fall weather!

Tusa Newborn Family

noreply@blogger.com (candace moss) — Tue, 12 Oct 2010 02:04:00 +0000

I think this was the sweetest sisters' moment ever. Little Baby A., at 6 days old, was so alert, paying very close attention to her big sister, who was completely "in the zone". It's like they were in their own little world, doing some very special bonding. Their mom and dad and I were standing there watching, practically in tears (ok, some of us actually in tears), and I was clicking away, but they didn't even know we were there. It was lovely!

Here are a few more shots we got that morning. What a happy day.

A super-fun session with gorgeous spring sunshine (we had to cancel 2 weeks ago for snow!). I'll always remember Chad's courageous rescue of the football from the briar patch (and the shirt that was sacrificed in the process). Good times! Here are a few of my favorites.

Give me two happy, energetic kids, and two relaxed parents, and I'll give you a fun-filled (if exhausting) morning in front of the camera. Oh yes, and beautiful portraits as a result. Nick, Jen, I hope you got your nap that day!

Wow. What an amazing day this family put together. The cupcakes, the crafts, the blow-up animals strewn across the park. And best of all, it was really a family affair. They spent days together cooking, baking, and prepping. These are some seriously lucky children. And so fun to photograph!

Sneak Preview...Lilly with Pumpkins

noreply@blogger.com (candace moss) — Tue, 06 Oct 2009 16:26:00 +0000

Another fabulous photo session with Lilly. I love this girl. She is so real, so honest, and totally sweet. I think it's great when she just wanders off during a photo session, to investigate something or other. We both had the idea to do some shots in the white playhouse, and they are my favorites! A totally different take on "pumpkin pictures". Take a peek...

Sneak Preview...Caroline and Nathan

noreply@blogger.com (candace moss) — Mon, 05 Oct 2009 18:54:00 +0000

About halfway through this session, Nathan realized I liked it when he smiled at me. Oh, boy, did he smile. You've never seen such a happy baby getting his picture taken. I guess when I asked Caroline if she would teach Nathan how to be in pictures, she took her job seriously. They were the stars of the pumpkin patch! Seriously, people crowded around, watching them work their magic.

Quite possibly the most gorgeous family ever. We spent a delightful afternoon in this pastoral green space in Highland Park, Megan's "home town". Lilly was brilliant, and so laid back. Take a peek...

Photo-worthy Children's Clothes

noreply@blogger.com (candace moss) — Mon, 28 Sep 2009 15:44:00 +0000

People are always asking me what to wear for their photos. Most of my clients love a pulled-together look but don't want something cheesy or too matchy-matchy. I am happy to say there is a new shop in Dallas with a gorgeous selection of hip, unique, "cheese-free" pieces for your photos.

At Little Bean, NYC transplant Christine Visneau has created a relaxed, peaceful space with handmade and vintage pieces you will adore. You'll find boys and girls clothing for infants through size 8, as well as darling accessories and other fun things.

Christine is on-site most days sewing in the back room. She will even whip up one of her designs with the vintage fabric of your choice! The shop is right next to the Garden Cafe (the two together make for a lovely lunch break!).

A few fall pieces:

Lily in the Garden

noreply@blogger.com (candace moss) — Fri, 04 Sep 2009 19:02:00 +0000

This girl is so cool. She could tell me the names of most of the plants in her gorgeous garden, as well as the habits of most of the creepy critters. Very observant. And it didn't take her long to let loose and SPIN!

I love how she is glowing in this last one! Lily, you are a joy to work with.

The Olive and the Toothpick

noreply@blogger.com (candace moss) — Wed, 02 Sep 2009 19:53:00 +0000

They are a rare breed: the women who make pregnancy look easy. Those super-fit ladies who stay slim all nine months, and who, from the back, look nineteen years old. Then they turn to the side, and it's an olive on a toothpick! My latest maternity client had a shape like this, and she was fearless. She gave me the artistic freedom to try lots of ideas that had been "gestating" for a while. Here are a few of my favorites...

A New Season

noreply@blogger.com (candace moss) — Wed, 26 Aug 2009 14:04:00 +0000

Welcome to my Candace Moss Photography blog!

This is a big day for me. Our girls are settled back in school, I'm overcoming my fear of blogging, AND I have a new business partner. My dear friend Sarah is now on board, and we are ready to roll. Candace Moss Photography is about to soar to new artistic heights.

We have a lot going on this season, from Pupmkins to Christmas trees, with many fun, elegant photo sessions in between. My goal is to blog at least once a week with new images, helpful photo tips, and upcoming events. There will also be promotions that happen only through these postings, so "turn your ears on", as I tell our girls.

In honor of a fresh start and a new season, I'm posting my new favorite newborn image. This is Blain Marie. She was so calm, cooperative, and downright mature for a 5 week-old. Can you see her pondering the meaning of life as she gazes out the window?

Thanks for reading. Have a beautiful day.
