Apps, mobile sites and responsive websites; spot the difference.

We've been exploring growth of mobile web for some time now, and in the past couple of blogs we've introduced you to the wonderful new world of responsive web design. But what about apps? Is there still a place for mobile apps in a post-responsive world? And where do mobile sites (m.sites) fit in? In fact, what's the difference between all of these anyway?

Ready, Set, Responsive.

Last month we looked at digital omnivores, and how the changing technology landscape has taken us away from the desktop and changed the places and ways in which we interact with content. Users expect services and information differently on mobile devices; faster, more concise, and more action oriented. We need to gear up for this, and we need to do it fast, given that Australian internet usage from Smartphone devices alone jumped by 32% in the first six months of 2012.

The Rise of the Digital Omnivore

Ever heard of a digital omnivore? Chances are you might be one. Do you use a desktop computer at work? What about a laptop or notebook at home or on the road? Got an iPhone or other Smartphone? Better throw in an iPad for good measure. If this applies to you, then you my friend, are a digital omnivore.

Facebook Becomes a Search Engine!

For years, Facebook has been collating data on each and every aspect of our lives; from shopping habits, to cuisine preferences, sexual orientation and marital status. Previously, Facebook has only ever used this information as a money making tactic, by offering highly segmented targeted audience to advertisers - think about how often you’ve been invited to ‘meet sexy singles in your area.’

Smart phones and Instagram: revolutionising the photography world

When digital cameras were invented, it allowed photography to become widely accessible to consumers - there was no film to buy or develop and there was no cost overhead. Smart phones have similarly changed the photography landscape by further reducing the barriers to entry and they've also brought something completely new to the table - social media sharing. Let's call it "Social mobileography".
