Hans Moretti

Hans Moretti was a German FISM winning mentalist, as well as part of an illusion team with his wife Helga known as The Morettis.

In 1944 Moretti had a choice of a civil service career in the Middle service but opted for a career as a magician. Moretti went on to become world champion (twice), and has 18 entries in the Guinness Book of World Records. He’s also received the Masters Fellowship Award of the Academy of Magical Arts.

Jonathan and Charlotte Pendragon were an award-winning husband-and-wife team of American illusionists who called their work “physical grand illusion”. The couple met at the University of California, Irvine, where Jonathan was studying theatre and Charlotte was studying dance

Chung Ling Soo

Chung Ling Soo, born William Ellsworth Robinson, died on the stage of London’s Wood Green Empire when his bullet catch routine went wrong.

To increase his allure with a touch of exoticism, Robinson changed his name to Chung Ling Soo. He maintained his role as a Chinese man scrupulously. He never spoke onstage and always used an interpreter when he spoke to journalists. Only his friends and other stage magicians knew the truth.

Dai Vernon

Dai Vernon (pronounced alternatively as DIE or as DAY as in David), aka The Professor, was a Canadian magician.

His expert sleight-of-hand technique and extensive knowledge garnered him respect among fellow magicians. His influence was considerable in the magic world, and he was a mentor to numerous famous magicians. He lived out his last years at the Magic Castle.

Al Koran

Al Koran was the stage name of Edward Doe, who was a former hairdresser that turned professional magician/mentalist. In 1945, he became the youngest member ever to be awarded London Society of Magicians Gold Medal. It was after this that he selected the stage name “Al Koran” and make magic a full time job.

Later in life, Al Koran emigrated to the United States in January 1969, first to Cleveland, Ohio and then later settling in Chicago, Illinois. He appeared many times on the Ed Sullivan show.

Johnny Thompson

When John Thompson was 8 years old, he saw a riverboat gambler in a movie and decided he wanted to be a card cheat. His sleight-of-hand skills put magic in between other highlights of a colorful career that includes The Harmonicats group in the ’50s, and acting in the 1978 dinner-theater production Bob Crane headlined, and in recent years, Thompson has spent more time behind the scenes as the go-to guy for magicians such as Criss Angel.
