Portal built on Carefx technology and implemented in partnership with CSC
Will deliver clinical efficiency and reduce the need for paper records
Trust serves a population of more than 600,000 people

WATFORD UK/MELBOURNE, FL- December 12th, 2011 - Carefx, a leading provider of interoperable workflow solutions, today announced that Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has selected the Carefx solution suite to provide clinicians with access to patient data from multiple core systems through a single, integrated view.
The portal, which will be implemented in partnership with prime contractor iSOFT, a CSC company, is built on Carefx's interoperability platform. It will present clinicians at the Royal Derby Hospital with a patient-centric view of the very latest real-time, clinical information, supporting decision-making, patient care and safety.
This builds on the strong relationship Carefx has with CSC to deliver portal solutions that meet the requirements of individual NHS trusts and national interoperability programmes.
Paul Regan, Head of EPR and IT Projects at Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said, "We already have a very comprehensive repository of clinical information using iSOFT's i.CM system. Carefx technology will allow us to build on this by providing a more user-friendly display, collating patient information in a summary screen in the exact way that clinicians wish to see it."
The decision to implement the portal is part of the Trust's commitment to become 'paper lite' and to drive operational efficiency by improving the management of paper case notes throughout the trust..
Regan added, "The trust will take a phased approach to implementing the portal and will initially focus on providing an intuitive interface within the outpatient department in order to reduce the need for paper case notes enabling a much quicker and easier way to access information."
The clinical portal will allow multidisciplinary teams to use the simple navigation so that information can be accessed efficiently and according to workflow.
Several portlets will display information including demographics, alerts, outpatient prescribed medications, orders and results, clinical correspondence and specialty based information. These web views will be seamlessly integrated with the native i.CM user interface allowing users to navigate straight to relevant areas, such as Lab Ordering, with a single click.
Wayne Parslow, European vice president and general manager at Carefx, a subsidiary of Harris Corporation said: "This contract is further proof that our portal solution is ideal for the needs of the NHS at this time. More trusts are turning to clinical portals to meet the needs of their frontline staff in order to provide better care for their patients."
Adrian Stevens, managing director NEMEA, iSOFT a CSC company, said: "This demonstrates the potential value, to all iSOFT and CSC customers, of implementing our clinical portal solution to drive efficiency.

Carefx White Paper "Patient Portals: Pathway to Patient Engagement and an Enhanced Patient Experience" Outlines Roadmap to Engage Stakeholders in Care Plan Management

Highlights:

Patient portals will play a key role in the quest for accountable care and meaningful use
Providers can accelerate pre-admissions, streamline workflow, update care plans and slash readmission costs via patient portals
HCOs need patient portals that facilitate care management and engage patients in managing their own health

MELBOURNE, Fla./SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - October 18, 2011 - A growing number of healthcare organizations (HCOs) are turning to patient portals to address demands for enhanced patient engagement and clinical information exchange, according to a white paper released today by Carefx, a leading provider of interoperable workflow solutions. "Patient Portals: Pathway to Patient Engagement and an Enhanced Patient Experience" provides a roadmap for hospitals, health systems and IDNs for patient portal development with insights on benefits, selection, management and lessons learned. "HCOs savvy enough to implement patient portals in the early days of the evolution toward patient-centered, accountable care will surely see the results - in lowered readmission rates, shorter patient stays, fulfillment of meaningful use, population health management and patient provider collaboration," says Andrew Hurd, CEO, Carefx. "This white paper explores how the patient portal creates a communications environment where providers can share test results with patients and patients manage their personal health information." But not all patient portals are capable of meeting HCO requirements, according to the Carefx white paper. Some focus on business functions while ignoring or downplaying the clinical elements of care. Others offer a variety of features and functions, but lack the agility to adapt to issues like patient-centered medical home (PCMH), value-based purchasing, bundled payment and high-performance, accountable care. The solution, according to Eric Leader, Vice President, Technology Architecture for Carefx, is for HCOs to focus on a portal that streamlines clinical and business workflows while helping providers engage, communicate and collaborate with patients and other providers. Equally important is a portal that addresses patients' changing health management needs and brings them into a partnership with care professionals. Carefx uses this development strategy for its patient portal build-outs.
Highlights

Secure email service enables participants to send encrypted health information to other authorized participants throughout the state
Direct Secure Messaging (DSM) Service adheres to Nationwide Health Information Network (NwHIN) Direct Standards
DSM service will help health care providers achieve Meaningful Use

MELBOURNE, FL/WASHINGTON, DC, August 30, 2011 - Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, in partnership with the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), has launched a secure email service that enables health care providers to exchange health information electronically with other providers. Delivery of the Direct Secure Messaging (DSM) service marks Harris' first milestone in the four-year, $19 million contract awarded to develop Florida's statewide health information exchange (HIE).
The Florida HIE DSM service is now online and available to Florida licensed providers. By using DSM, providers and other health care entities can "push" electronic messages to known and trusted recipients over the Internet. The service supports several of the information sharing requirements for Meaningful Use, such as the ability to provide a summary of care records for patients referred or transitioned to another provider.
"Enabling health care providers in Florida to exchange clinical records over a secure network is one of our primary goals," said government analyst and AHCA's HIE Policy Lead Carolyn Turner. "The new DSM system from Harris supports provider collaboration and aligns with our mission to improve the quality, safety, and delivery of health care in Florida."
As one of the first statewide implementations to go live, the service adheres to NwHIN Direct standards and supports the Office of the National Coordinator's (ONC) effort to enable the development of technologies to safely exchange clinical information. As an electronic and web-based system, DSM aims to replace the widespread use of fax machines for referrals and transmission of patient data between organizations.
"Transforming healthcare requires a secure and connected framework," said Jim Traficant, president, Harris Healthcare Solutions. "Direct Secure Messaging is another standards-based innovation delivered by Harris to enable Florida, other states, and health enterprises to share critical health information in a trusted exchange model."
The secure messaging platform is the first step towards the implementation of a fully connected health information exchange across the State of Florida. Harris plans to follow the DSM delivery with a Patient Look-up service this fall, which will allow clinicians to search for and retrieve individual patient records from participating sources in the Florida HIE. At least 20 organizations will be brought into the HIE by 2014.
For more information, and to track the progress of the Florida HIE, please visit https://www.florida-hie.net/. A nationally recognized leader in federal healthcare IT integration, Harris also offers commercial providers a full range of interoperability solutions, including IT infrastructure and management, clinical workflow and analytics, health information exchange, and imaging. Harris solutions improve health care quality, safety, efficiency, cost and outcomes by ensuring that the right information travels, with security and privacy, to the right person, at the right time, on the right device, at the point of care.

MELBOURNE, Fla./SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - April 21, 2011 - - Hartford Hospital, an 867-bed regional teaching hospital and referral center in Connecticut, has increased its early discharge rate, a metric hospitals use to manage bed utilization, nearly three-fold by offering its clinicians access to a business intelligence (BI) dashboard from Carefx, a leading provider of interoperable workflow solutions.
"As part of our multidisciplinary program to improve performance and quality, our clinicians rely on Carefx's Patient Throughput Dashboard to pinpoint patient flow trends and opportunities, which has enabled the hospital to accelerate appropriate discharge and cut length of stay," said Michael C. Lindberg, M.D., chairman, Department of Medicine, Hartford Hospital. "Instead of having to contend with multiple data sources, access delays, and dull, text-based presentations, clinicians use the dashboard to view and act upon near real-time patient flow data in a lively, intuitive, graphical format."
Originally developed by Cleveland Clinic, and now licensed and deployed by Carefx, the Patient Throughput Dashboard is one of Carefx' Business Intelligence Solutions. Other dashboards include those for physician scorecards, mortality, core measures, patient experience, clinician performance on Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) indicators, length-of-stay, and readmission rates.
The Patient Throughput Dashboard presents a healthcare organization's own aggregated data, allowing clinicians and executives to quickly identify improvement opportunities, eliminate operational bottlenecks, improve bed utilization and control length of stay.
"The Carefx Patient Throughput Dashboard helps hospitals manage daily census, lower cost-per-case, improve patient satisfaction, and minimize operational inefficiencies," said Andrew Hurd, CEO, Carefx. "These dashboards will help providers respond to reimbursement challenges, marketplace shifts, and financial constraints."
Hartford Hospital uses a weekly feed to pull inpatient and emergency department (ED) data from billing, bed management, and transport systems into its Patient Throughput Dashboard. Clinicians and executives then use the data to hone in on patient flow obstacles and identify best practices for training and coaching lower-performing individuals, units and floors.
After only nine months of using the new dashboard, users were surveyed and:

70 percent reported they were actively using dashboards (weekly)
90 percent claimed improved ability to manage workflow
100 percent claimed dashboard saved them time on data gathering, report generation

"The Throughput Dashboard allows us to identify and diagnose problem areas and floors so we can invest resources to enhance patient flow," adds Jamie Roche, M.D., vice president, Patient Safety & Quality, Hartford Hospital, and one of the executive sponsors of the project. "The dashboard's real-time metrics help us to comply with Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) standards, offer physicians immediate feedback on length of stay, readmissions and order entry, and provide the Joint Commission with precise, accurate feedback on progress."
The Patient Throughput Dashboard also tracks the hospital's progress on early discharge goals, triggering conversations among clinicians, managers and executives about how the hospital can increase early discharge through activities such as early tray delivery or movement of patients from the ED to less-critical care floors.
