I had my first macaron about a month ago at Kate Spade's opening party here in KC, and it blew me away. Macarons are not the dry, airy, meringue-looking cookie they appear to be.

After that experience, I became obsessed with scribbling ideas for fun flavor combinations on any piece of paper I could find. Egg nog is hardly a new concept, but I have a few up my sleeve that I can't wait to

orange-scented russian teacakes + foodiecrush

There's a new magazine in town! Have you seen it? It's published by the lovely Heidi of foodiecrush. She publishes regular blog posts in addition to this scrumptious online magazine.

I'd recommend taking a peek when you have plenty of time and a full stomach.

Once you get to page 46, you might see a familiar face.

Yep, that's me! I'm sharing my family's traditional holiday cookie.

Rotisserie chicken and frozen puff pastry take chicken pot pie from Sunday supper to everyday meal.

And the comfort food factor? Off the charts.

You can take this recipe and make it into traditional pot pie, or even a turnover.

OR.

Or.

Orrrrrr you can make these adorable little bite-sized appetizers.

More on that in a minute.

I don't think I've mentioned it, but the last few weeks I've been participating in a 12 week weight-loss bootcamp put on by my second love, Fusion Fitness.

I probably haven't mentioned it because the topic of weight typically follows the same precept as the topic of salary.

Tortellini with Roasted Butternut Squash, Mushrooms & Fontina

BOY, do I have one helluva dish for you today!

I know I'm a writer. And writing is how we communicate.

However, putting into words the amazingness of this dish is proving to be difficult for me.

Let's start with the squash and the mushrooms. One's sweet, one's savory. Sweet and savory are BFF4E.

This was my first time working with figs. I've avoided them over the years because my experience with them consisted of fig newtons and a fig perel sauce The Stallion bought a few years back, both of which I find potent and, well, disgusting.

But lately I've been drawn to figs. They are so beautiful and have a certain allure to them.
