Watch the noise level in and around your apartment

Welcome, new Carmel Landing residents! We’re happy that you’ve chosen our community as your home.  We realize that some of you may not have lived in an apartment before, so we want to tell you about some of the things you can do to ensure that you are a good neighbor and tenant.  This will help you create a good relationship with those living around you and will save you money on fees down the road.

Make sure you read over the terms of your lease carefully before signing.  Terms will give you an idea of what will be expected of you and will include policies about trash, noise and more.  It will also remind you to keep on top of the condition of your apartment to avoid losing money from your security deposit for damages.

Be mindful of the noise you create from your apartment.  Keep in mind that everyone has a different work and sleep schedule, so it is important to act accordingly.  This means keeping your radios at a low level and speaking softly if you are outside on the phone.  Your neighbors will appreciate it and will treat you with the same consideration!

IU student Sarah Bauer makes it all the way to the Jeopardy stage

Time for some Carmel pride! Our town has a new celebrity; IU student Sarah Bauer, who hails from Carmel, is making a name for herself on Jeopardy.  She got a call in December that would change her life in more ways than one.

Sarah went through a lengthy application and audition process so she could qualify to compete as one of only fifteen college students selected from around the country.  The college tournament began on February 1st and will continue through February 14th.  Sarah appeared yesterday and, while she ended up in third place after missing the final Jeopardy question, she says it was the best experience of her life.  She enjoyed meeting Alex Trebek and her fellow contestants.

Spice up your Super Bowl party with buffalo wings

Still planning your Super Bowl menu? If you’re entertaining at home, don’t stress! I’m here to share a recipe from the Food Network for one of the football game favorites – buffalo wings.  If you love having these as snacks but don’t want to spend a lot of money, why not make them yourself? Don’t worry; it’s easy.  Follow the recipe below and your guests will thank you:

Total time is just under 2 hours with 15 minutes of prep time and 40 minutes of cooking.  You’ll have an hour in between to get other things done.  Here are the ingredients you’ll need:

  • 12 whole chicken wings
  • 1 small clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup hot sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3 ounces unsalted butter

Visit this French cafe for yummy crêpes!

Bonjour, Carmel Landing! Are you ready for a French twist to your day? If so, bring your appetite to La Mie Emilie for a meal that’s très bien (that’s “very good” for those of you who need a refresher from the French class you took years ago).  With quiches, sandwiches and desserts galore, you’ll leave satisfied for sure.

For those of you who are looking for a great café brunch, this is definitely the place to visit.  You can get special egg dishes, French toast, crêpes and croissants at the same time, and the brunch menu is available all day.  May I suggest the crêpes? I guess I just did.  You can choose from the many dessert crêpe choices or you can pick your own ingredients and create your own dish.

If you haven’t been to La Mie Emilie, it’s definitely worth the trip out.  So get going so you can come back here and give us your review!

We are doing fundraising to help with the expensive treatment needed to save her life. Afterwards she will be ready for her new home.
