Enjoy the art of local talent in Indy

Near Carmel Landing apartments is Indianapolis where an overflow of creative activity is soon expected. On Saturday and Sunday, May 19th – 20th, The Indianapolis Art Center (IAC) presents the Broad Ripple Art Fair to residents and neighbors, close and far, with copious servings of unique enriching beauty.This annual event has been garnered by the IAC since 1971. It takes place on spacious grounds of the Center, amid the sculpture garden with its rolling ArtsPark lawn of spectacular art edifices.  Proceeds from the Fair will benefit the Center and help extend its many programs in ceramics, glass blowing, painting, drawing and the various other disciplines of the expressive arts.

Over 225 artists will be in attendance. Drink will be provided at beer and wine gardens. There will be over 30 bands and performers putting out fine melodies and songs in the Basile Auditorium and four outdoor stages. Gourmet food will be at the ready as well as a ceremony for the juried art.

It is almost like Josie has gone away and we have a new dog in Josie fur!

    Today I stripped the beds and when I went back to make the bed, the new Josie decided to play hide and seek with the sheets. I would stop to put a sheet down and she would run under it and twirl. Then she peeked out like ‘try and catch me’ and ran under the sheets to the other end of the bed and repeated this process. If I stuck my head under the sheet to get her, she put her tongue out and kissed me. Finally I got the bottom sheet on and she did the same thing with the top sheet.

     I have NEVER seen Josie playing. Either she has turned a corner OR this is not Josie

     Someone is going to be very lucky to get this little girl. She is too cute. I love the twirling. She has done that every since we picked her up from her last home.

     She looks like a little ballerina in a red tutu!

    Josie has come back to look for another home. Just didn’t seem to be a mesh.

     In the meantime, she’s going to get her hair cut and spruced up a little, so she feels like herself all over again.

     Wouldn’t you love to spend time with her?  She would love to spend time with you!

  Josie has simply amazed me! She moved to another foster home to see if she would be as good as she is with me. She has lost almost all of her fear and can be petted, fur roughed, paws touched, and held. She has behaved very well at her new home and even has a tender spot in her heart for her Foster Dad.

   Josie has come so far in the foster homes she has been in. To me, she is the proof of the goals, we as fosters can achieve, in preparing these lovely dogs to live happy and fullfilling lives with good humans. She has come far from the scared and easily irritated lady she was back in March of this year.

   Good luck, Josie, it was not easy to have you move on in your journey, but you make me proud!

   Do you have room in your home for Josie?  She certainly hopes so!  You can’t imagine how much love she has to offer.

Josie has come a long way. I have worked with her over the past months with being handled and petted all over. She will allow strangers to pet her. Sudden movements still make her cringe, but I am not so sure that will ever go away.

 

She has started to bark at the door when she wants to go out. But word of caution, you must make sure she goes out just before bed. She will sit on command, and even lift her left front paw delicately to shake for a treat.

 

What I find really cool, is while taking off her halter, she will lift her leg when i say ‘Gimme your leg’ so i can take the halter off. The cool part is when i go to slip it off over her head, i say ‘lift your head’ and she will!

 

She will get up in her chair when i say up and will go to the door when i say, porch, so i can open the door for her to go out. She is not crazy about dog doors. She will use it in emergencies when I am outside too long for her liking. So, for an older dog, she is coming along nicely.

Josie is doing very well. She is really coming out of her shell. I caught her yesterday for the second time throwing a chew in the air and chasing after it. Her and my dog, Madison have started playing together. They even slept next to each other in the bed the other night.

Hello again!  It is so hard to believe that I have not found my forever home yet.  My mom calls me her little princess because I am the only girl in the house.  I try to stay as far away as possible from those mean boys that are in the house.  They are just too rowdy for me.  Although, I do like my buddy Marshall because he’s calm like me and I love to play with him.  My mom says that I still have a lot of puppy in me because I love to play with toys.  But mostly I enjoy laying around (usually on the couch..because I am a princess).  I went and got my hair done yesterday which feels so wonderful after suffering through this long cold winter.  They did a wonderful job on me.  I am still doing really good at house training even though it’s been SO cold outside.  I can even go down the stairs by myself now to get outside.  Won’t you please consider giving me a forever home?  I am such a sweet girl who is VERY easy to take care of.  I get along really well with other dogs and I love adults.  I enjoy kids also but I prefer adults…they are a bit calmer.  I don’t have any health issues even though I am 9 years old.  Although I probably wouldn’t win any beauty contests with my underbite…hey, we all have to be unique or this world would be a boring place!  Don’t forget…I’m the girl for you! 

 

10/26/10   Hello again.  Wow I am really loving this beautiful fall weather.  I love to lay outside in the grass and let the breeze blow through my fur.  It feels just like heaven.  And it would be even better if I had a home to call my very own.  I am in a new foster home in Kokomo and I love being here.  The other dogs are really good at leaving me alone and I’m always sure to let them know if they get too close for comfort.  There are a lot of puppies at this house and they have way too much energy for me.  My favorite place to lay is on an empty backpack.  I know it sounds really strange, but one of the two-legged kids in my house got a new backpack and he left the old one laying on the floor.  I think my foster mom told him over and over and over again to pick it up.  Well I am really glad he never picked it up because I love to lay on it and it’s also in a nice safe place away from all the puppy chaos.  And that kid got lucky because Mom says that the backpack gets to stay there just for me.  He keeps trying it with other things but I’m not fond of laying on shoes and toys.  I am learning to adjust to the kids at the house.  They usually just leave me alone but they have learned that if they want to pet me they need to move slowly rather than scaring me.  They are doing a good job of giving this ‘old timer’ some respect.  Mom says it was about time they learned some respect. 

 

I am doing great at my house training and only have accidents when Mom gets too busy and forgets to let me out.  I’m the only one that gets special service because I get to be carried outside.  I have learned to come up the stairs, but I still don’t like the going down part.  I am also doing good about sleeping in my crate at night.  I can go all night without making a peep.  Sleeping is such a wonderful thing. 

 

Please consider giving me a forever home.  I am a very loving and very beautiful girl (I’m not bragging that’s what my foster mom says).  I will add a lot of joy to your household.

Josie says why am I still here?  I am such a good girl, I want my very own furever home! I love to go for walks , car rides and play with toys, I am still trying to figure out how to play with the other furpups at my foster home. My foster mom says she is proud of me because I am finally getting the hang of ‘lets go out and go potty’. She is silly clapping her hands and talking baby talk to me. Hey attention is attention…

 

 

7/4/10 Update

 

Mom says I am a sweet heart, even when I make mistakes in the house. I get to be carried up and down the stairs to go out to go potty. She says they look scary to her too!  She does try to get me to take a few, I do it but I really do not like it.

 

Other than me working on the steps it has been kinda lazy. Mom gets on the floor and throws toys with me and my foster siblings-I love that!! Mom has been busy making things out of fleece for the Rescue Boutique and I lay by her feet while she sews.

 

She said she and I get to go to Petsmart again next weekend-that is always fun. Oh mom has sent a new picture of me lounging on the deck at home…..

Meet Josie. She is an 8ish year old Pomeranian. She was dropped off at a shelter because her owners could not afford her dental. We got her all fixed up and now she is very interested in going to her new forever family ASAP!

 

Josie weighs around 8 pounds. She has had a Spa Day and we had to trim her down a bit because she was matted. She is a sweet little girl that enjoys love and attention. She especially likes belly rubs and laying in the sun on warm days. Her potty training is a work in progress but she will use the piddle pads if she cannot get outside.

 

Josie is being fostered in the NW Indiana area.  Please consider giving her the loving home she so deserves.

If you’re one of those people that gets hyped up just thinking about going to a rock concert, you’ll be happy to know that the Carmel Center for the Performing Arts has just announced a packed schedule for 2012-2013 which will include appearances by tons of talented musicians.  A 5 subscription series will be offered this season: Classics, Jazz & Blues, Country & Bluegrass, Songbook and Dance.

If 60 People Donate $10, Then RecycleForce Can Provide a Monthly Bus Pass to 10 Transitional Employees with Low Incomes

The Issue: Workforce Training for the Formerly Incarcerated

Upon release from incarceration, many former offenders have no jobs—and sometimes no homes—to return to, increasing the rate of reoffense and return to the criminal-justice system. In Marion County, that rate was 49 percent in 2007, according to the Annie E. Casey Foundation. Through transitional employment and social services, formerly incarcerated individuals can surmount the obstacles facing them and break out of the incarceration cycle by developing job skills and receiving counseling.

The Campaign: Transportation for Transitional Employees

If this Grassroots campaign raises $600, then RecycleForce can purchase a monthly bus pass for 10 of its transitional employees with low incomes. Many of these employees rely on local public transportation to attend their jobs as de-manufacturing specialists. As part of the transitional job program, they receive daily personal counseling, job training, and character-development services. Each additional $60 raised will provide another transitional employee with a monthly bus pass.

To celebrate the launch of Groupon Grassroots, Groupon will provide a $1,000 kickoff grant to this campaign.

RecycleForce

RecycleForce provides comprehensive recycling services to residents and businesses across Indiana, offering low- to no-cost recycling collection for a wide range of materials, including plastic, paper, aluminum, cardboard, and electronic waste. To broaden its community impact, RecycleForce uses the revenue generated from its recycling business to employ formerly incarcerated individuals and provide them with comprehensive social services and job training. Its six-month transitional job program focuses on character development, personal counseling, and job skills. After participants complete the program, RecycleForce helps them obtain full-time employment by partnering with employers committed to hiring ex-offenders.

The inspiration for the festival, Steve Pearce was a National Kidney Foundation of Indiana supporter and film lover who passed away from kidney disease in 2009. The NKFI aims to prevent kidney and urinary-tract diseases, improve the well-being of people affected by these diseases, and increase the availability of transplant-ready organs.
