“Obamacare” or the American health affortibily act may have an effect on your facial fillers in Charlotte. The types of fillers in question include hyaluranic acid based fillers like Restylane, Juvaderm, and Perlane as well as collagen stimulator Sculptra. Obamacare has added multiple taxes to the health care industry, and one of the newer taxes is a 2.3% tax on medical device manufacturers. Medical device manufacturers make every possible piece of equipment or medical device used in and on the body. Some of these are large fortune 500 companies, including the makers of popular facial fillers Allergan and Valent. Allergan produces and sells Botox and Juvederm, while Valant produces and sells Dysport, Resylane, Perlane, and Sculptra. These companies are now required to pay an additional 2.3% tax on the profit of all of these products. For these reasons, many experts expect medical device manufactors to raise their prices to cover the added cost and therefore shifting the tax onto the patients, hospitals, and health insurance companies.

The manufactors of all facial fillers recently raised their prices approximately 2.3%. While I cannot prove this was a direct effect from the Obamacare tax, it seems likely. I would expect the prices of all facial fillers to increase steadily over the next few months to years to cover this added tax.

In the grand scheme of medicine, the added increase of the cost to facial fillers in Charlotte is secondary to this new tax and is not a catastrophic event. The addition of this tax on the entire industy of medical device companies will have a much larger impact. The ultimate result of the tax on the health care industry remains to be seen.

Facial Fillers in Charlotte

To help my patients, I recently placed a large order of facial fillers at the old price before the price increase. This will help keep the cost of facial fillers in Charlotte down for the foreseeable future. My patients will still be able to enjoy excellent and natural results without worrying about the burden of the tax increase.

We’ve all had someone come up to us and ask, “Are you OK? You look tired!” at some point or another. For some, though, that is a daily occurrence. For people suffering from loose, baggy skin around the eyes, it is nearly impossible to look well rested. If you always look tired and no amount of make-up and/or rest seem to make any difference, you may want to consider a blepharoplasty or eyelid lift in Charlotte.

What is blepharoplasty?

Simply put, blepharoplasty is a procedure aimed to rejuvenate your upper and lower eyelids. It is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure with a very high rate of satisfaction. Because our eyes often give away our age and can even make us look older than we are, undergoing a blepharoplasty surgery can take years off of a patient’s appearance.

When I perform an eyelift surgery in Charlotte, incisions are made in the natural creases of the eye, right under the eyelashes, or inside the lower lid (depending on the type of blepharoplasty) to ensure scars are hidden. The recovery is fairly easy, with full results evident in 3-6 months. Undergoing a blepharoplasty is a very easy procedure for the patient and comes with a minimal recovery time. It’s quite normal for my patients to look and feel better just days after they’ve had their eyelid surgery in North Carolina.

What does blepharoplasty treat and could you be a candidate?

My patients, male and female alike, come to me with both functional and aesthetic reasons for seeking a blepharoplasty. Eyelift surgery can help treat symptoms such as the following:

Loose skin, pouches, or bags under the eyes

Excess skin on the upper lid (that may or may not impede vision)

Droopy, tired-looking eyes

If you are in overall good health, but want more vibrant, youthful looking eyes, or if you wish to restore vision that is limited by excess skin, a blepharoplasty may be the procedure for you.

Contact Dr. Kulbersh for a Blepharoplasty Consultation

If you think blepharoplasty is right for you, and if you have any questions about the procedure, or would like to schedule a consultation, contact me today. As a board certified head and neck surgeon who specializes in facial plastic surgery, I am certain I can restore the vibrancy you have been longing for and put an end to “You look tired!”

Chin implants are an effective and subtle way to create facial harmony with natural results, which is precisely why this particular surgery is on the rise! Recent statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons show that almost 20,700 patients have opted for chin implants, a 71% increase in the procedure since 2010. This increase could be a product of more people using video chatting services or video cameras on their phones. People who believe they have a “weak” or “soft” chin are increasingly appreciating this disproportion. A chin that fits the face can greatly improve the harmony of the face especially from the profile or three quarter view.

What can I expect during a Chin Implant Procedure?

Chin implants in North Carolina are a relatively simple and fast procedure. Depending on the type of procedure right for you, a patient could be in and out of my office in Charlotte in only a couple hours. The procedure consists of making a small incision underneath the chin where it is hidden. From the incision the chin implant is place onto the bottom aspect of the jaw. This immediately creates more prominent and well-defined chin. Most implants are made from synthetics, such as silicone. I use silicone in over 90% of my patients. I choose a silicone implant because it has a low rate of infection and can be easily removed.

What to expect after the surgery?

For the first week after surgery, there will be swelling and possibly bruising and a bandage that will be worn. After 1 week, the bandage and stitches will be removed in the office. Over the next 2-3 months, the swelling will subside and the patient can appreciate the look of their new chin. Most patients often feel better and up to returning to their light every day activities after one week.

Watch Dr. Kulbersh talk about chin implants in Charlotte in this YouTube video.

Is there an alternative to having a chin implant?

If you want improved definition in your jawline but do not want an implant I have quite a few options available to my patients. As an expert injector in Charlotte, I often recommend products such as Restylane, Perlane and collagen stimulators (Sculptra) to help create a larger chin or improve a recessed chin. The injectables help to define the jawline, which can reduce fine lines and wrinkles along the upper neck and chin. In addition, I can place fillers in your cheeks, temples, or nose to create a better facial definition and improve the overall symmetry of your face.

Contact Dr. Kulbersh Today

Many people feel that their chin does not adequately fit their face or may not be as prominent as they wish it to be. A well-defined chin can help with facial balance, harmony, and symmetry. As a board certified head and neck surgeon specializing in facial plastic surgery, I am confident we can come up with and implement a plan for chin implants. Let your confidence shine with a new chin implant and call my office today!

We have all heard people refer to someone as “Dumbo Ears” or have seen caricature portraits of people with ears that are drastically out of proportion to the size of their head. Though it has probably elicited a chuckle or two, for those who suffer from overly large ears that protrude out to the side, that silly picture may feel like a reality every day. At my practice in Charlotte, I am happy and pleased to help those suffering from the stigma of large ears with an easily performed otoplasty in North Carolina, most commonly referred to as ear pinning.

Who Can Benefit From Otoplasty?

Ear disproportion and malformation is an equal opportunity affliction. Studies have shown that there can be no true isolation in race or gender regarding who suffers from this condition. One study has said that 53% of patients that receive otoplasty are males, while another study purports that 33% of patients that undergo the procedure are in their teens. These numbers just go to show that otoplasty can be the right choice for any and all who feel that their ears are a source of mockery, no matter what race, gender, or age that they are. I have seen many people from all walks of life come to my practice for an otoplasty in Charlotte, but the results are all the same, happy smiles and an improved feeling of confidence in their appearance.

What Is Otoplasty?

Otoplasty is a simple, minimally invasive operation that pulls the ear back to a more aesthetically pleasing position. If you decide to have an otoplastic augmentation, the operation can be performed in office, under local anesthetic, and there is no need for hospitalization. The whole procedure can be performed in just under three hours, with a relatively short recovery time, but the effects can result in a lifetime of improved confidence! Most of my patients that have opted for otoplasty are young children and concerned parents who have suffered from teasing and ridicule over the size and disproportion of the ears, but otoplasty can be performed at any age. It can improve confidence and help with low self-esteem whether you are five or fifty!

Contact Dr. Kulbersh For Your Otoplasty Consultation Today!

If you feel that otoplasty is the right choice for you or your child, do not hesitate to contact my office for a consultation today! I would love to answer any and all questions you may have about the procedure. I encourage any concerned parent, or someone who has felt the sting of ridicule to come in for a consultation and learn how otoplasty can change your appearance and outlook on life! As a board certified head and neck surgeon with a special knowledge in facial plastic surgery, I’m confident that I can provide my patients with the ear size and shape that they have always wished for.

While these are excellent treatments for the right individual, a procedure often forgotten about that can address some of the biggest facial aging concerns including sagging skin and volume loss is called a cheek lift.

In this blog, I’d like to let my patients know a little bit more about the different types of non-invasive and surgical procedures that can help restore natural youth back to your face and cheeks.

Facial Fillers in Charlotte

Facial fillers are an ideal treatment for patients who want to restore facial volume to their cheeks without ever undergoing any type of surgery. Fillers like Juvederm, Restylane, and Sculptra can provide patients with a subtle lift while also promoting new collagen growth. Facial fillers can also be a great way for patients to try out a new look before seeking a more permanent procedure like cheek implants.

Fat Grafting

Much like facial fillers, fat grafting is a treatment that I perform in Charlotte that replaces lost volume to the face and cheeks. However, fat grafting is a completely natural procedure, as I’m able to take fat from another area of your body (often times the stomach) and add it to your cheeks to provide an organic and long lasting lift. Fat grafting is a very popular treatment for facial volume restoration because there is low risk of infection and rejection since the injectable material is from the patient. Because Charlotte fat grafting uses live tissue, the results last longer than the non-surgical treatments.

A permanent solution to achieve fuller cheeks is with cheek implants. Cheek implants provide patients with a lift and can add significant volume to the area. Cheek implants are ideal for patients that have weak cheekbones. The negative aspect of cheek implants is their slight increased risk of infection compared to the other treatment modalities.

Learn More About Adding Volume To Your Cheeks

No matter what stage of the aging process you’re in, I’m confident that I’ll be able to address your concerns and develop a plan to revitalize your cheeks. For more information about undergoing facial fillers, fat grafting, or cheek implants in Charlotte, please contact my medical practice today by calling (704) 323-5090 to schedule your initial consultation. During that time, I’ll be able to determine which type of cheek improving procedure you’d benefit from most and come up with a completely customized treatment plan unique to your ultimate goals.

If you’d like to learn more about the many ways I can help improve the appearance of your face and cheeks, please contact Carolina Facial Plastics today.

Men and women as early as their late 20’s are beginning to notice the lasting effects that facial plastic surgery procedures. This prompted me to answer a question that I hear often: Am I too young for a facelift?

The answer to this question will vary from patient to patient as each of us age differently based on many factors including but not limitied to sun exposure, facial anatomy, and skin elasticity. Generally, patients under the age of 45 are typically candidates for procedures known as a mini lift, liquid facelift or neck liposuction, while a traditional facelift in South Carolina or North Carolina may be ideal for patients older than 45.

Facial Rejuvenation for Patients Under 45

Rejuvenating the face for younger individuals is a much different process than in older patients as different concerns are addressed. Most commonly, patients in this age group are dealing with wrinkles, fine lines, initial volume loss, and minor sagging skin. A liquid facelift in Charlotte can address all of these concerns without the patient ever requiring surgery, as a combination of Botox and facial fillers work to restore a natural and youthful appearance.

A mini-lift, though surgical, is a less-invasive facelift procedure that I perform in Charlotte that involves tightening the skin and muscles of the lower face. Individuals who may be a better candidate for a mini lift are those who are experiencing initial signs of aging in the lower portion of their face, including skin laxity and volume loss near the cheeks and jowls. Many times, individuals who undergo a mini-facelift in Charlotte earlier in life see a lessened amount of overall facial aging as they continue to mature.

Neck liposuction is ideal for patient that have lost definition in the neck secondary to excess fat in the area. While it is a surgical procedure, it can be done while the patient is awake in a comfortable manner.

Facial Rejuvenation for Patients Over 45

After 45, it’s common to begin to see volume loss to the under eyes, cheeks, and temples in addition to sagging skin, fine lines, and wrinkles. When this is the case, a traditional facelift or lower necklift is often the correct choice for the individual. When I perform this procedure for my patients in Charlotte, I tighten and tone the skin and muscles in the face while repositioning any fat necessary. I often recommend that a facelift be combined with procedures to restore volume. This can be both surgically, facial fat transfer, and non-invasive treatments like facial fillers.

However, others may seem to wakeup with a new wrinkle every day! So, what is the best way to overcome an aging face and neck? In this blog, I’ll share my expert opinion on my top three picks that will lead to a healthier and more youthful appearance.

Non-invasive Treatments

An extremely effective solution to overcoming an aging face is to use a combination of Botox and facial fillers in a procedure that has come to be known as a liquid facelift in Charlotte. Together, facial fillers and Botox can help diminish the appearance of the following:

Fine lines

Deep folds

Wrinkles

Crow’s feet

Volume Loss

Sagging neck & jowls

Though you may know that Botox works to temporarily freeze facial muscles that cause wrinkles, it’s a well kept secret that Botox in Charlotte can also be used to tighten loose jowls and a slightly sagging neck without ever undergoing surgery. Though the procedure isn’t permanent, it can provide relief from the aging process for 3-6 months.

Top Products

No matter what stage of the aging process you’re in, taking care of your skin is always extremely important and integral in prolonging the aging process and helping to diminish the appearance of new wrinkles. At Carolina Facial Plastics in Charlotte, I often recommend patients undergo chemical peels in combination with using a line of skincare products that can be customized to meet their unique needs. Image skincare can provide patients with the latest advancement in anti-aging solutions and contains absolutely no chemical preservatives or parabens.

It’s also very important to continue to wear sunscreen throughout your life, as this will help to stop any unnecessary damage from the suns harmful rays that can age your skin.

Surgery

A patient who is deeper into the aging process will most likely benefit from a surgical solution as opposed to a liquid facelift or regimen of fillers and Botox. Undergoing a Charlotte facelift is the best way to see a significant improvement in wrinkles, volume loss, and skin tightening for older patients. At my office in Charlotte, I often combine a facelift and necklift into one surgery for my patients, which reduces the recovery time to only one procedure and allows them to enjoy a natural and complimentary look to both integral areas.

Contact Carolina Facial Plastics in Charlotte Today

If you’re ready to learn how non-invasive and surgical treatments like chemical peels, facial fillers, Botox, and a facelift or necklift can help you overcome an aged appearance, I encourage you to contact my office in Charlotte today to schedule your initial consultation. During this time, I’ll be able to come up with a treatment plan completely based on your ultimate needs and goals to provide you with the best results possible. As a board certified head and neck surgeon with a special knowledge in facial plastic surgery, I’m confident that I can bring my patients exactly the facial rejuvenation that they’ve been seeking.

It’s happened to all of us at one point or another, and sometimes more frequently than we would like. Without sleep, it seems like no amount of coffee, makeup, or exercise can truly cover up the fact that we’re tired. As a board certified head and neck surgeon in Charlotte who specializes in facial plastic surgery, I spend my time helping patients look and feel their best, and would like to shed light on the true meaning and importance of getting enough beauty sleep.

The term ‘beauty sleep’ comes from the idea that if our bodies don’t get enough rest each night, our appearance begins to change with dark under eye circles, premature wrinkling, and an overall tired appearance. If you don’t think this is true, think again.

Stress is one of the biggest factors in aging. When our body doesn’t get an adequate amount of time in bed, your skin becomes compromised due to a drop in healthy and necessary collagen. In addition, stress has been proven to lower the amount of melanin in the skin that helps to keep our complexion radiant and healthy. If that isn’t enough information to get you back into bed, how about this: our cells act 10-15 years older than they actually are when our body is tired, meaning you may only be 30 years old, but look 45!

Overcoming An Aging Face

If you think you might be seeing early signs of aging on your face due to a lack of sleep, there are a few things you can do aside from attempting to lower the level of your stresses in everyday life and improving your sleep quality. At my practice in Charlotte, two of the best ways to overcome stubborn wrinkles, volume loss, and under eye hollows that give the appearance of dark circles are with Botox and facial fillers in Charlotte. Botox works through a series of injections to the facial muscles where wrinkling is occurring. After the injections, the muscles become temporarily frozen, resulting in a quick diminishment of their appearance. To help erase under eye circles and facial volume loss, my patients find facial fillers injections helpful. Facial fillers under the eyes can help to smooth out unwanted creases and plump up a once youthful area, immediately resulting in an improvement and awakened appearance.

Schedule Your Consultation At Carolina Facial Plastics Today

Now that you have a better understanding of how sleep can refresh your appearance, I encourage you to contact my office today to find out about the easy ways to enhance your look even more with non-invasive product including Botox and facial fillers. With adequate sleep and cosmetic surgery, my patients can look and feel their best year round. Because I’m a board certified head and neck surgeon with a special and unique knowledge of facial plastic surgery, I have a great understanding of how to bring subtle and natural changes to a persons face without an ‘over-done’ appearance.

What Is Facial Synkinesis?

Facial synkinesis in Charlotte occurs after an episode of Bell’s palsy when the patient doesn’t regain full facial movement. Synkinesis is the inability to coordinate the individual muscles of half of the face. It results in a wide range of both functional and aesthetic changes. Common changes include:

Narrowing of the eye during smiling

Asymmetry of the smile

Dimpling of the chin

Asymmetry of the forhead

Pulling sensation in the neck

For my patients in Charlotte, Synkinesis can have a negative impact on the quality of life and of a patient’s self image. Botox is excellent and the best method to improve the function and the appearance of the synkinetic face. It is injected to muscles on both sides of the face to increase facial symmetry at rest and during animation. It can be used to open a narrowed eye, soften the smile, and relieve the pulling senstation just to name a few of the positive effects of Botox used to treat facial synkinesis.

What Is Bell’s Palsy?

Bell’s palsy is a disorder of the facial nerve that brings facial paralysis to one side of the face. Unlike other forms of facial paralysis, the cause of Bell’s palsy isn’t entirely understood, though many medical professionals believe it to be a result of a virus affecting the facial nerve. When the facial nerve becomes inflamed, the necessary neural input is blocked which prevents movement of the facial muscles. Initially, Bell’s palsy in Charlotte is commonly treated with anti-virals and steroids. In nearly 90% of patients affected with the condition, facial movement is regained over the course of the following months after diagnosis, though it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly when the condition will run its course.

As a board certified head and neck surgeon with a special training in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, I’m able to provide my patients with an ideal knowledge of both the function and aesthetics of the face.

A procedure that is becoming much more common today than it was several years ago is called a tip rhinoplasty. Often times, patients come into my office for a consultation believing that they’re a good candidate for a primary rhinoplasty, though after hearing their goals, it’s very clear that they will see better results from a procedure dedicated to correcting only the tip of the nose.

If you’re experiencing a bulbous or poorly defined nasal tip, I’d like to let you know how a tip rhinoplasty in Charlotte could be beneficial to you.

What Is A Tip Rhinoplasty?

A tip rhinoplasty is a procedure offered at Carolina Facial Plastics that can correct problems with the nasal tip. Most commonly, patients who are excellent candidates for this procedure are individuals who have a very large or small nasal tip, as well as those who have a tip lacking in definition. At my office in Charlotte, tip rhinoplasty aims to adjusts the lower third portion of the nose, and does not involve any breaking of the nasal bones in the dorsum or bridge. The ultimate results of a tip rhinoplasty often depend upon what type of skin type my patients have, be it thick or thin. Patients with thin skin tend to see a much more defined nasal result. While it may be more difficult to achieve proper nasal definition in thicker skinned patients, it is by no means impossible.

A tip rhinoplasty is truly a procedure of millimeters, as I believe that achieving a natural and harmonious nasal result is best seen by making many small changes that together create a nose that fits the face but does not change its character. By adjusting the nasal tip, I can create a nose that appears to be the nose the patient should have been born with. A Charlotte tip rhinoplasty is a less invasive procedure than a primary or revision rhinoplasty procedure, which results in less recovery time, bruising, and swelling for my patients.

Schedule Your Rhinoplasty Consultation in Charlotte Today

Undergoing a tip rhinoplasty can be an excellent procedure for individuals wishing to correct a minor problem with their nasal tip. If you’re interested in learning more about the procedure and how I can help you achieve a more harmonious and balanced nose, please contact Carolina Facial Plastics today by calling (704) 323-5090. During your initial consultation with, I’ll be able to address your unique concerns and come up with a treatment plan completely tailored for you.
