Despite being a lot more expensive than the second-gen Sequoia, Toyota has and continues to consistently increase pricing for the third-gen SUV. For the 2024 model year, pricing for the Sequoia went up by as much as $1,145 and now, for 2025, the Sequoia is getting another price hike. This time, it’s as much as $5,400.

Order guide data reveals that pricing for the 2025 Toyota Sequoia will start at $62,175 for the base SR5 trim. That’s an increase of $900. The Limited trim is also getting a price hike of $900 and will start at $68,575 for 2025. The rugged TRD Pro trim, which is only available with 4WD, gets a price hike of $935 to $80,045. None of these trims appear to be getting any new features that justify the price increase, so the price hikes look like a new model year price increase.

While a $900 isn’t enormous, pricing for higher trim levels has climbed extravagantly. Based on our research, the Platinum and Capstone trims will not be available with rear-wheel drive anymore. Instead, these trims are only available with four-wheel drive. In the case of the Platinum trim, pricing for the trim will start at $79,320 compared to $73,865 from last year. That’s an increase of $5,455. The Capstone, which also comes with 4WD as standard equipment, will start at $83,665, a price hike of $5,400.

For the most part, the Platinum and Capstone trims remain the same as the 2024 trims, but they now come with massaging front seats as standard equipment. The Platinum trim will continue to come with a standard 14-speaker JBL audio system, a panoramic moonroof, a head-up display, high-grade LED exterior lighting, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a wireless charging pad. The Capstone continues to sit at the top of the Sequoia lineup and comes with 22-inch wheels, power running boards, semi-aniline leather upholstery, wood trim, ambient interior lighting, and acoustic glass.

At the moment, we don’t think massaging front seats and 4WD make the Platinum or Capstone worth an additional $5,400, but we’ll have to wait to get a full list of standard features to see if Toyota has added more content to the trims.

Elsewhere, Toyota has also introduced a new 1794 Edition for the Sequoia lineup for the 2025 model year. The Trim costs $80,135, putting it above the TRD Pro, but below the Capstone, and is a Texas-inspired version of the SUV. It’s a similar thing to what Toyota does with the Tundra pickup truck. The 1794 Edition features walnut wood trim, unique leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, massaging seats, 20-inch wheels, a panoramic roof, a tow tech package, and unique badges.

The noteworthy changes have increased the large SUV’s price tag by a wide margin, as it now starts at $89,590 (prices include destination). Compared to last year, the pricing for the 2025 Escalade has gone up by $5,700 for the base Luxury trim.

While that’s a steep increase over the 2024 model, higher Escalade trim levels have gone up by a wider margin for 2025. The Premium Luxury trim now starts at $98,790 ($2,975 more), the Sport trim costs $99,390 ($1,200 more), the Premium Luxury Platinum costs $118,390 ($5,700 more), the Sport Platinum has a price tag of $118,890 ($6,200 more), and the high-performance Escalade V starts at $161,990 ($7,700 more).

The $7,700 price hike for the Escalade V is alarming, though it does come with all of the same upgrades as the regular Escalade, but also benefits from carbon-fiber trim and unique quilted upholstery. It’s strange to see the major variations in price hikes between the different trims for the 2025 Escalade. Pricing for the 2025 Cadillac Escalade Sport goes up by just $1,200, while the Escalade V gets a $7,700 price hike. Only General Motors knows why Cadillac increased pricing for the 2025 Escalade the way it did, but it doesn’t follow any rhyme or reason.

With the price increase, the 2025 Cadillac Escalade is one of the pricier options in the class. It costs more than the Lexus LX ($93,915), Infiniti QX80 ($84,445), and Lincoln Navigator ($85,260), but less than the Land Rover Range Rover ($109,525) Mercedes-Benz G-Class ($149,400), and Jeep Grand Wagoneer ($93,945).

Earlier this month, the American automaker announced plans to cancel the development of its long-planned three-row SUV and also confirmed that it would be delaying the introduction of a new electric pickup truck until 2027. Instead of investing money into developing and bringing these EVs to market, Ford is now shifting its focus toward gas and hybrid vehicles.

This isn’t the first time Ford has changed its plans for its three-row SUV. Earlier this March, Ford stated that the three-row SUV would be delayed as the automaker shifted its focus toward smaller, more affordable EVs. Back then, the plan was to delay the three-row SUV for two years until 2027. Now, the plans for the three-row SUV have changed completely to where Ford no longer plans to build it and the electric truck has been delayed by 18 months.

Ford is making these changes to save money, though Ford claims that its new plans will result in additional expenses and cash expenditures of up to $1.5 billion and a special non-cash charge of roughly $400 million. Overall, Ford is looking to reduce its capital spending on electric vehicles from 40% to 30%.

Now that Ford has a three-row SUV-sized hole in its lineup, it’s looking to fill it with a new hybrid option. Ford, though, didn’t provide information on when the new hybrid SUV would go on sale.

During a media briefing that Automotive News was a part of, Ford CFO John Lawler shared some more information on the automaker’s decision to change its plans for its future vehicles. “This is really about us being nimble and listening to responses from our customers,” said Lawler. “We looked where the segment was evolving, the amount of competition, the customer needs, and then, the size of the battery that needs to go in a pure EV, the cost structure, the pricing, we could not put together a vehicle that met our requirements to be profitable in the first 12 months of launch.”

In addition to canceling development plans for an all-electric three-row SUV, Ford is also delaying an upcoming electric pickup truck by a little over a year. The truck, codenamed T3, is now on track to come out before the end of 2027. Adjusting the time of the truck’s launch will help Ford to “utilize lower-cost battery technology and take advantage of other cost breakthroughs while the market continues to develop.”

Ford may be adjusting its plans for future electric vehicles, but the automaker’s Blue Oval City complex in Tennessee is still on track to produce battery cells for EVs in 2025. The brand’s focus on future electric vehicles will still be on small, affordable vehicles, which will utilize a new platform. The first EV to ride on the new platform will be a midsize pickup truck, which could be the long-awaited T3.

Order guide data reveals that 2025 Cadillac OPTIQ prices will start at $52,895 and potentially less than $1,000 more than an XT5 after incentives. However, the cheapest OPTIQs may be hard to find and the price difference with the LYRIQ could be greater than you think.

The 2025 Cadillac OPTIQ will start at $52,895 excluding destination for the entry-level Luxury 1SC. There's also a 1SE trim priced from $55,095 and blacked-out Sport 1SF and Sport 1SH models priced at $53,495 and $55,595, respectively. When it arrives, the OPTIQ's destination charge will add $1,495 to these prices.

At $52,895, the OPTIQ will become the brand's entry-level EV and cost $4,300 less than the Cadillac LYRIQ. At least for now. In base form, the 2024 LYRIQ Tech starts at $57,195. However, as we reported earlier this week, that's set to change. That's because Cadillac is dropping the base-model LYRIQ EV for 2025.

Cadillac told us the move will simplify its lineup and give buyers more features. However, we think the move could help differentiate the prices of the two electric vehicles. Cadillac hasn't released 2025 LYRIQ pricing but, now that the Luxury will become the new base trim, we think its price could go up by roughly $4,100.

In its current form, the 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ Luxury starts at $61,295, $8,400 more than the OPTIQ. But it's also worth keeping in mind that the OPTIQ will be AWD-only to start and the all-wheel-drive LYRIQ Luxury currently starts at $64,795. That could mean a nearly $12,000 price difference between the two EV models.

For now, we'll have to wait for new LYRIQ pricing to be announced. GM reportedly expects the OPTIQ to qualify for a $7,500 federal EV tax credit.

With the incentive, OPTIQ pricing could dip to just over $45,000 excluding destination. That's less than $1,000 more than the 2025 Cadillac XT5's MSRP of $44,295. But you could be in for a wait. OPTIQ production doesn't start until late this fall and GM says that the entry-level models will have "late availability."

Cadillac says that OPTIQ range will come in at 300 miles, slightly less than the 314-mile range of the LYRIQ 4x2 and the 307-mile rating of the AWD LYRIQ. Having said that, a Cadillac spokesperson told us that the 2025 LYRIQ could see an increase in EV range following the change in trim choices for the coming year.

Acura unveiled their bold new Performance EV Concept in Monterey last week and it did not disappoint. We still don't know much about the rakish crossover, but Acura did give us an important tidbit: it will be the first EV from Acura with an in-house powertrain.

Acura, and parent company Honda, have been relatively slow in terms of introducing electric vehicles. Both brands' sole electric offerings, the Acura ZDX and Honda Prologue, make use of General Motors' Ultium EV platform. However, we know that Honda has its own EV platform in the works, and the Acura Performance EV Concept marks the first time we've seen it.

The concept makes the already daring ZDX look relatively pedestrian. It features a prominent beak-style front end, although this is a much more modern iteration than the design language found on Acuras from the early 2010s, and is paired with long pointy headlights not unlike the ones found on the latest Buick models. The rest of the concept's lines are very sharp, save for the rounded sports-coupe-like roofline. The rear features a large LED lightbar akin to the one found on the Honda Prelude concept introduced last year. The aggressive look is capped off by enormous 23" wheels wrapped in low-profile tires.

There's a chance that the production model might be toned down a couple of notches, but this was no doubt a bold step for the brand. Speaking of which, Acura claims that the Performance EV Concept will go into production in late 2025. We don't know the model's specs, or even what the customer-bound version will be called, but we imagine it will serve as the brand's flagship SUV offering. Hopefully, its performance matches the loud styling.

Details are still unconfirmed, but the automaker may be unveiling a four-door version of the Mustang. The venerable pony car has only ever existed as a coupe or convertible, aside from the Mustang Mach-E crossover. We don't know much about the potential four-door Mustang, which is aptly being referred to as the Mach 4. Nonetheless, a four-door option joining the Mustang lineup would mark a milestone in the model's already storied history.

According to a report from Automotive News, Ford executives recently presented mockups of upcoming Mustang variants to dealers. Among the potential upcoming models was the Mach-4 four-door coupe. These dealer meetings were closed-door, but the Mach-4 is reportedly based on an internal combustion platform. If that's the case, we would expect it to share powertrains and running gear with the current two-door models.

You might be struggling to envision a four-door Mustang, but the idea might make more sense than you think. The Dodge Charger was largely successful when it was introduced as a four-door alternative to the Charger. The Mustang will also be the only V8-powered option left in this segment following the Chevrolet Camaro's discontinuation and the aforementioned Charger's pivot to electric and six-cylinder powertrains, so Ford may be looking to corner the pony car market.

We might see some other interesting Mustang iterations on the way soon. Other potential models reportedly revealed to Ford dealers included an all-wheel drive variant, an RTR-modified high-performance EcoBoost model, and a non-Shelby high-performance V8 convertible. We'll have more details on the Mach 4 and its potential stablemates when more information is available, but the Mustang lineup has an exciting future ahead.

Toyota was one of the first brands to come out with a mass-market hybrid with the Prius and has focused its electrification efforts on hybrids instead of pure EVs, in sharp contrast to other brands. Apparently, that's a trend that Toyota wants to explore, as the automaker is looking into the possibility of becoming a hybrid-only brand.

According to a report from Reuters, David Christ, Toyota’s head of sales and marketing for the automaker in North America, stated that the Japanese brand is examining the possibility of moving to a hybrid-only lineup. “Going forward, we plan to evaluate, carline by carline, whether going all-hybrid makes sense, said Christ.

The comments by Christ follow those made by Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda from the beginning of the year. In January, Toyoda stated that he believed the global share of electric vehicles would top out at just 30%, claims the outlet. Instead of fighting for a small slice of the global share of EVs, Toyota believes in a “multi-pathway” strategy that includes hybrids, hydrogen-powered cars, and green fuels. The automaker is also considering future technology that hasn’t been introduced yet as part of its strategy.

Reuters reports that Toyota’s evaluations for what vehicles should only be available as hybrids will come when a vehicle is redesigned and will include all of the vehicles that the automaker makes. With the Toyota RAV4 expected to receive an overhaul for the 2026 model year, Toyota could see the popular compact SUV become a hybrid-only model like the Camry, Sienna, and Land Cruiser.

The RAV4 Hybrid has proved to be a popular choice for shoppers, as it accounts for approximately half of RAV4 sales. Two unnamed sources told Reuters that Toyota would likely drop the gas-powered version of the RAV4 for the North American market, but didn’t expand on when that would happen.

Moving to get rid of its gas-powered cars and only offer hybrids will give Toyota an upper hand in regard to complying with stricter carbon emissions regulations in the U.S., reports Reuters. The plan could also help the Japanese automaker avoid regulatory fines and costs, while also giving Toyota more time to develop all-electric vehicles.

While Toyota hasn’t set a deadline for when it plans to completely phase out gas-powered vehicles, new emissions standards for the U.S. will go into effect for vehicles from the 2027 model year and run until 2032. Christ did tell the outlet that getting rid of gas-powered models would take longer for some vehicles, like pickup trucks and economy cars, because of “consumer price sensitivity on entry-level versions.”

Over the past few decades, Toyota has made dramatic strides with its hybrid powertrains to improve efficiency, fuel economy, and performance. Not only do modern hybrids from Toyota offer better fuel economy than gas-powered vehicles, but they’re also more powerful, too. Toyota has also managed to make pricing for its hybrids competitive, as they typically cost roughly $2,000 more than a similarly equipped gas-powered model.

EV sales are expected to increase over the past few years, but won’t increase at the same pace. Meanwhile, hybrid sales are expected to increase steadily. Shifting its focus to hybrids will help Toyota appeal to drivers who aren’t interested in all-electric vehicles, meet stricter regulations in the U.S., and buy extra time to figure out its EV plan.

For the upcoming 2025 Nissan Altima, Nissan has dropped the car’s available turbocharged engine. Nissan confirmed the news when it announced changes to the 2025 model year.

For 2025, the Altima will only be offered with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. Last year’s optional turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that was rated at 248 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque won’t be available for the new model year. The turbocharged engine was previously only available on the SR VC-Turbo trim as an exclusive powertrain.

Going forward, at least for the time being, all Altimas will be powered by a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 188 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque when paired with front-wheel drive. All-wheel-drive models make slightly less power and are rated at 182 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque.

Nissan didn’t provide any information on why it dropped the turbo engine for 2025, but it probably comes down to a lack of sales. While the Altima’s turbocharged engine has the claim of fame of being the world’s first variable-compression engine in a vehicle, its accolades will probably end there.

The turbocharged engine required a hefty upgrade of $7,500 over the non-turbo SR model and didn’t act as an enormous performance upgrade. Additionally, the turbo engine wasn’t available with AWD and decreased fuel economy by 2 mpg combined compared with the naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine. Because of its downsides, we didn’t think the SR VC-Turbo trim was worth the extra cost.

Simplifying a car’s lineup is one thing automakers do when they’re getting ready to discontinue a model. It’s a way to simplify things and reduce the number of configurations they have to be able to manufacture to focus on other models.

In addition to dropping the Altima’s turbocharged engine, Nissan has made a few more changes to the 2025 Altima. There’s a new SV Special Edition package that’s available on the SV trim and brings a 12.3-inch display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, dual-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof, 17-inch black wheels, faux carbon fiber interior trim, a rear spoiler, and illuminated kickplates.

Pricing for the 2025 Nissan Altima S will start at $28,140, which represents an increase of $630 compared to 2024. The Altima will arrive at dealerships shortly.

The Q50 was not listed in a summary of 2025 model year changes for the automaker’s lineup this week, which prompted us to reach out to Infiniti for a comment. Infiniti confirmed that it would be discontinuing the Q50 in an email.

"Confirming 2024 is the last model year for the Q50,” said Infiniti spokesperson Andrea Cano in an email.

Unless Infiniti introduces a replacement for the Q50, the automaker will have an SUV-only lineup that consists of the QX50, QX55, QX60, and QX80. Infiniti joins the likes of Lincoln, Land Rover, Jaguar, and Chevrolet (once production of the Malibu ends) as mainstream brands that don’t sell a sedan.

Infiniti introduced the Q50 sedan for the 2014 model year as a replacement for the G37. Despite coming out 10 years ago, the Q50 is still in its first generation and hasn’t received any large changes since its arrival. The four-door Q50 lasted two more years compared to the Q60 coupe sports car, which was discontinued in 2022.

While Infiniti dropped the Q60 coupe a few years ago and the Q50 sedan recently, the automaker has been busy coming out with redesigned SUVs. The second generation of the QX60 launched in 2022, while the third generation of the QX80 came out in 2025. For a brand that likes to keep old vehicles around, Infiniti has recently introduced two fully redesigned SUVs.

It’s hard to say if Infiniti will come out with a replacement for the Q50 sedan in the near future. In 2023, Infiniti came out with the Vision Qe sedan concept, which was meant to preview the automaker’s first electric vehicle in sedan form. Only time will tell if Infiniti comes out with a production version of the Vision Qe concept as a replacement for the Q50 or if the automaker has officially stopped selling sedans for good.

Order guide data indicates 2025 Honda Civic Type R prices will increase by $800 compared to the outgoing model. Based on our analysis, the latest version of the Type R is set to remain significantly more expensive than cars like the Toyota GR Corolla.

The 2025 Honda Civic Type R has an MSRP of $46,690 including the destination charge of $1,095. That's $800 more than the current Type R's price of $45,890. While a 1.7% price increase isn't unusual on a car, it's not the first price hike that we've seen since the launch of the 11th-generation Type R a few years ago.

When it was first introduced, the 2023 Type R was priced at $43,990. That represented a price increase of about $5,000 over the previous generation. With the latest price hike, the 2025 Civic Type R will be $2,700 more expensive than what it cost when the 11th-gen hatch debuted. And that's before market adjustments.

At $46,690, the 2025 Civic Type R is nearly $16,000 more expensive than the most affordable 2025 Civic Si. Like the Si, the Type R has no major changes for the coming year. The Type R is significantly more expensive than the 2024 Toyota GR Corolla's base price of $37,635, though some GR versions can reach $46,275.

For 2025, GR Corollas get an automatic transmission option, potentially making the track-inspired car appealing to more drivers. In contrast, the Type R is only available with a 6-speed manual. Alternatively, the new Civic Hybrid is quicker than a Civic Si plus gets better fuel economy, and could be a surprising alternative.

According to GM's order guide and confirmation from a company spokesperson, the Cadillac LYRIQ Tech trim has been discontinued, leaving just the Luxury and Sport trims for the 2025 iteration of the all-electric luxury SUV.

In the 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ, the entry-level Tech trim starts at $57,195 excluding destination, and has an all-wheel-drive variant priced at $60,695. With the Cadillac LYRIQ Tech going away for 2025, the Luxury trim will become the new base model. Cadillac hasn't released 2025 LYRIQ pricing but the current one costs $61,295.

That's $4,100 more than the base model, though it's unclear if Cadillac plans to readjust its LYRIQ pricing for the upcoming year. The Tech trim may be the most affordable LYRIQ right now but it also lacks standard features like adaptive cruise without adding the $2,400 Driver Assist Package. For 2025, this is standard.

Cadillac spokesperson Whitney Lewis confirmed the change for CarsDirect via email, adding "By simplifying the trim options to Luxury and Sport only, our most popular content is now offered as standard on Luxury and Sport 1, while adding more value with features like standard OnStar packaging and improved range."

Though the 2025 Cadillac LYRIQ Luxury will come with more standard equipment than the Tech trim did, the order guide indicates it will lack features like GM Super Cruise and the brand's Next Generation Active Noise Cancellation in base 1SC form. To get those, you'll have to upgrade to the Luxury 1SD trim. But that's not all.

Like the current base model, the cheapest Luxury trim doesn't offer the available 19.2 kW AC charging module capable of 240V/100A. For 2025, you'll have to step up to the mid-level Luxury 1SD, though it remains an add-on even at that point. Otherwise, all LYRIQs will continue to have an 11.5 kW module with 240V/60A.

Cadillac hasn't released 2025 LYRIQ range estimates yet but the promised increase over the current 314-mile maximum EPA rating could potentially be compelling for some luxury buyers. For the time being, it's unclear if Cadillac will continue to be able to advertise low-priced leases after dropping its base model LYRIQ EV.

While the cheapest version of the Model 3 has yet to dip below $35,000 – pricing for the most affordable Model 3 currently starts at $38,990 (without destination) – a new report from Electrek has brought the rumors of an affordable Model 3 back to light.

Electrek claims that the automaker is testing a cheaper interior with the Model 3 that would make it considerably cheaper. Tesla offers the Model 3 with a cheaper interior in other markets like Mexico that includes a new cabin with textile seats instead of vegan leather. The outlet found the new cabin through the automaker’s configurator. On top of trading vegan leather for fabric upholstery, the cheaper interior also removes some features.

The cheaper interior reportedly results in the Model 3 losing its rear display, heated front seats, and heated steering wheel. It’s possible that Tesla offers the cheaper cabin with a different style of steering wheel and seats and Electrek claims that Tesla could offer a heated steering wheel and heated seats as part of a subscription service, which it has done in the past.

With the Model 3 Highland, Tesla introduced new ambient interior lighting, which isn’t available with the more affordable cabin. While the electric sedan continues to have ambient interior lighting, it doesn’t offer the same customizable RGB and only has white interior lighting. Tesla could also offer RGB ambient interior lighting as part of a subscription service.

Lastly, Tesla has also removed the Model 3’s acoustic windows. Instead of offering acoustic windows throughout the entire vehicle, only the front windows have acoustic glass when configured with the cheaper cabin.

When converted from pesos and VAT is removed, the Model 3 with the new and cheaper interior costs approximately $35,000, reports Electrek. This makes it roughly $4,000 cheaper than the most affordable Model 3 that Tesla offers in America.

With Tesla dropping its plans for a $25,000 EV, the automaker could introduce a cheaper interior for the U.S. market. Currently, it’s only available in Mexico, but Electrek believes that Tesla could expand the cabin based on popularity and feedback.

On the face of things, we don’t know how fabric upholstery, non-heated seats, a regular steering wheel, white ambient interior lighting, and a rear center console without a screen amount to $4,000. But there’s no denying the fact that a more affordable Model 3, even if it comes with fewer features and an interior that’s not as upscale, would be incredibly popular. It would also, if the numbers are accurate, would finally give Tesla an EV that costs $35,000.

For the 2025 model year, the Infiniti QX50 soldiers on without any major changes, though the compact SUV has received a few minor changes. The QX50’s lineup has been streamlined and the SUV now comes with all-wheel drive as standard.

Moving to offer the 2025 QX50 with standard AWD helps the compact SUV fit in with other options in the class. Other competitors like the Acura RDX, BMW X3, Audi Q5, Genesis GV70, and Volvo XC60 all come with AWD as standard. A few SUVs, like the Mercedes-Benz GLC and Lexus NX are available in two-wheel-drive models.

While Infiniti has confirmed that the 2025 QX50 will come with AWD, the automaker hasn’t provided pricing on how much the SUV will cost. We suspect that the SUV’s move to AWD will increase the QX50’s starting price tag, but don’t have confirmation on that yet.

Currently, the 2024 QX50 pricing starts at $42,350 (with destination) and the SUV comes with front-wheel drive. Drivers looking to get AWD with the SUV are looking at paying an extra $2,000. By that logic, the 2025 QX50 should start at around $44,350, though Infiniti could hike up the SUV’s price as part of a new model year push, which is something that automakers routinely do.

Power for the 2025 QX50 will continue to come from a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 268 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission. With FWD, the QX50 is rated at up to 26 mpg combined, while AWD brings a combined fuel economy figure of up to 25 mpg combined.

Adding AWD isn’t the only change that Infiniti is making to the QX50 for the 2025 model year. The compact SUV’s lineup is changing, too. The 2025 Infiniti QX50 lineup will consist of Pure, Luxe, and Sport trims, as the automaker has dropped the SUV’s higher Sensory and Autograph trims. We’re not sure why Infiniti has changed the 2025 QX50’s lineup, though we believe it could have something to do with sales and popularity.

Infiniti claims that more information on the 2025 QX50 will arrive this fall.

Although the venerable three-row crossover didn't arrive with any significant updates, Subaru did tweak the model's packaging for the new model year. The base trim is gone, which means more standard features at the expense of a higher starting price.

More and more automakers are gravitating toward eliminating lower-margin models from the bottom of vehicle lineups. Honda, Ford, Toyota, and many others have been ditching their entry-level offering in favor of more expensive feature-packed models. The Base Ascent's discontinuation marks the first time we've seen this from Subaru, although it's worth noting that the Solterra and BRZ have never been offered in Base guise.

2025 Ascent pricing now starts at $40,215 for the Premium trim, which is a hefty $4,475 more than a 2024 Base model. What do you get for your extra $4,475?

The now compulsory upgrade to the Premium trim gets you 3,000 more pounds of towing capacity, gray wheels, body-color mirrors, windshield wiper defroster, power driver's seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, second-row climate controls, 4G-LTE WiFi compatibility, and, notably, Subaru's EyeSight safety suite.

That's a solid amount of kit to be sure, but it would have been nice to have a more affordable option. Subaru maintains that when considering the additional features, the "content-equivalent price increase" is only $340.

Additionally, the Premium trim is $2,125 more expensive for 2025. It now features the Convenience Package as standard, which adds Blind-Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Reverse Automatic Braking to the outgoing standard safety suite. Two new trims have been added this year as well: Bronze Edition and the range-topping Onyx Edition Touring.

The Ascent is now undercut at the low end by capable competitors like the Mazda CX-90, Kia Telluride, and Hyundai Palisade. That being said, you probably weren't cross-shopping a stripped-down base Ascent with those models.

Order guide data reveals the 2025 Genesis GV60 will add an all-wheel-drive version of the entry-level Standard trim. Based on our analysis, the new variant will cut the base price of the AWD GV60 by over $5,000 but come with some important compromises.

The 2025 Genesis GV60 Standard AWD has an MSRP of $55,850 excluding destination. In the 2024 GV60, all-wheel drive requires stepping up to the Advanced trim which is $8,550 more expensive than the base configuration. The new AWD Standard trim is only $3,500 more expensive than the base price of $52,350.

At $55,850, the AWD GV60 Standard is $5,050 less expensive than the Advanced's MSRP of $60,900. That could make it appealing to those who may not need a fully loaded model. However, our analysis of Hyundai's specs data found some interesting pros & cons that could drive the decision whether or not to buy one.

First, the AWD GV60 Standard gets 30 miles less range than the RWD model (264 miles versus 294). However, it benefits from the same 234 kWh motor as the Advanced trim capable of 314 horsepower. To help put that into perspective, the cheapest GV60 only has a 168 kW motor that's rated at 225 horsepower.

In terms of features, here are some of the biggest things buyers will give up compared to the Advanced: ventilated leather front seats, a heated steering wheel, a 17-speaker Bang & Olufsen Sound System, a surround-view monitor, and parking collision-avoidance assist. This could be a good middle-ground for buyers.

A dealer incentive bulletin says the 2025 Genesis GV60 Standard AWD will debut with a $7,500 lease incentive on 36-month contracts. This could bring the EV's price down to $48,350 on a lease. For reference, the Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD starts at $47,990, though a tax credit can bring that down to $40,490.

In this form, the Model Y is rated at 308 miles (versus 264 for the GV60 Standard AWD). Since it's significantly more affordable and has more range, buyers may find the Model Y more attractive. It remains to be seen whether Genesis buyers will be willing to shell out close to $60,000 for a luxury EV that lacks leather.
