Clickbank is an affiliate marketing site that allows you to advertise other people’s products (or your own) on your website or blog and receive a commission when people click through from your page and buy a product.

Once you sign up with Clickbank, you’ll be given a link ID so you can link to products in various places and promote those products in the hope that someone will click on them and buy something, thereby earning commission.

Making money this way is not easy and it can take a tremendous amount of time and effort to build enough trust for people to click on your affiliate links.

Email Promotion

Avoid Spamming

Affiliate links won’t be off-putting to readers, as long as they’re used sparingly and in the appropriate places.

Avoid the temptation to put tons of affiliate links on the same page or to stuff articles and emails with as many links as possible. Readers do not take kindly to this and you might even draw the ire of Google as well, as they’re becoming less and less friendly to link-building and thin affiliate websites.

You want to do all you can to avoid being labeled as such.

Patience

Affiliate links do not make you rich quick and they definitely aren’t designed to work overnight. You need to have great amount of patience to make this type of income work for you. Be sure to also have other means of income to support yourself while your affiliate links are being built and seeing more traffic.

A little vision of me, ridiculous it was, attempting to brave the high seas in a grossly inadequate boat, or some kind of vessel, surfaced.  Weeeelll, as much as I love lobster that’s simply, not going to happen.  I surely would never eat lobster.  Immediate clarity and new respect for the people who do brave the high seas to catch lobster so I can enjoy it.  They are skilled and equipped for what they do. I guess the lobster is not too expensive, after all…

So, what does my little trip to the local supermarket have to do with email marketing?  If you’ve ventured online sooner or later you hear that ‘the money is in the list’.  Which is as cavalier a generalization of profitable marketing, online or offline, I ever heard.  Yes, your aim with using email marketing in your endeavors is to make money online.

However, legitimate and successful email marketing, strives to meet the needs of subscribers, is not merely just to make a sale and profits and is of a far more engaging and diligent nature than ‘the money is in the list’  implies.  It’s no wonder so many marketers get this major component of doing business online, completely off.  The resulting bad rap and myths generally associated with email marketing is then, hardly surprising.

Lobster, for sure, is not a necessity, you won’t find it anywhere on the food pyramid.  Vegetarians will readily agree.  Email marketing on the other hand is vital to your online business and making money online.

As consumers we, subscribe to email promotions and get offers delivered right to our inboxes.  Email marketers are the middlemen (or women) and link or promote offers to consumers.  And rather like braving the seas to catch your own lobster in order that you can enjoy it, without a subscription, you’re likely neither equipped nor inclined to surf the ‘net’ well enough to find some of the cool information goods and service offers that regularly turn up in your inbox.  After all, effectively surfing the ‘net does take some time, knowledge, tools and some tricks. Email marketers know or eventually learn this.

Being on both ends of email marketing campaigns, that’s both as initiator and recipient, I figured I could share some of my experiences about some of the, not completely accurate myths.  And just as my little, alternative vision, at the local supermarket brought me clarity about buying lobster, here are a few myths that ought to be busted and hopefully help bring some clarity about email marketing.

Myth #1  -  All Email Marketing is Spam

Repeatedly online, in the forums, hangouts, chat sessions, etc., emailing subscribers is generally referred to as spam.  On the contrary, legitimate email marketing is permission based advertising when people opt-in to receive your promotional offers.  Consumers perpetually seek information, goods and services to satisfy and accommodate their demands/wants/needs.  Just check out the huge volume of searches on just about any term in the search engines. Email marketing is demand and supply in action.

Legitimate email marketing aims to provide a trustworthy service to consumers and convert them to happy, repeat customers by providing them products and services based on their needs.  Via emails, blogs, social media, newsletters, articles, webinars, podcasts etc., email marketers seek to engage, educate, inform and learn from or about customers and what their needs are.  Don’t forget also, that subscribers can always easily unsubscribe for any or no reason at all.

Myth #2  -  Why email marketing when subscribers can easily ’google’ for what they want?

Email marketing provides a service for consumers by or providing them valuable information, goods and services which they seek/use, through emails.  Yes, subscribers can conduct their own searches.  But consider that promotional emails can save customers’ time by bringing products/services directly to their inbox rather than having to surf Google, Yahoo, Bing, et al, which can take hours, if ever you really find what you want.

Further, increasingly  businesses  proffer email-only discount offers and services as incentives to acquire customers.  I’m always amazed at the priceless information and ‘treasure’ I find lurking in my spam folder when I check.  Who else doesn’t just automatically delete your spam folder?

Additionally, according to industry leader, Get Response newsletter, one-third of small business owners cite email marketing as their most successful advertising channel.

Myth #3 – Social Media would knock emails right out of the game.

Personally, I check my emails more often now, from my phone, than ever before. I suspect the same to be true for the billions who now conveniently access their emails from a myriad of smart, hand-held devices.

Social and other media are interchangeably linked with email.  Email is more often required for registration/signup processes with social media and other mediums even offline.  Email is often the tool used to confirm users are bona fide and not bots.

Myth #4 – Email Marketing is bad

Spam continues to be a big issue that we deal with daily and unfortunately email abuse is rife on the ‘net.  That said, spam and email abusers can’t be allowed to negate the privileges of sending and receiving email.  Email marketing provides unprecedented benefits not just to marketers and product creators but fulfills a need and renders a convenient service for consumers.

Basically, in a digital marketplace, in the information age, legitimate email marketing links consumers with information, products and services for which they continuously search.

• I will teach you how to generate Facebook like box plugin code from Facebook developer page,
• I will guide you how to add and customize your Facebook like box widget on Blogger and
• WordPress.

I am writing this tutorial because you can generate and add your Facebook like box to your website without buying a gig. You can do it because it’s simple and require nothing about HTML and CSS coding. You don’t need to be a developer to give your readers a quick medium to like and promote your awesome contents.

Bloggers, affiliate marketers and publishers are using social networks to promote their contents without spending money for ad campaigns. Adwords is one of the most effective advertising you can use to build traffic to your website but there are more options to cut off your advertising expenses. Okay, let’s get started with this simple tutorial.

Create your Facebook like box on the Facebook developers’ page

I assume that you have a fan page right now, but if you are new and want to create your very first Facebook fan page, please follow this comprehensive guide. The plugin has new option. A year ago, there’s no option called “Show Border” but the team has added it recently. You can unchecked that box if you want to hide the borders to blend the plugin with your sidebar widgets. Okay, hands on your keys please.

1. Go to Facebook developers’ page here.
2. Open a new tab by pressing Ctrl + T and go to your Facebook fan page, your URL looks like this facebook.com/cashoutdecently (that’s mine).
3. The default width is 292 Pixels. If you know the exact width of your sidebar widget, please use the exact width (pixels).
4. How about the height, leave it. We can play some tricks later. Leave “Faces” checked as well as the “Light” color scheme.
5. Unchecked “stream”. You only want to show the “Faces” of those who like your page right? Otherwise, leave it checked.
6. Sometimes the border of your like box would just mess up your sidebar widgets especially if your site’s widgets has border in it. To make it clean, unchecked “Show Border” option to hide it.
7. Unchecked “Header”. I believe that your site’s sidebar widget has its own customized heading, no? To come up with a really clean plugin, unchecked it to hide “Find us on Facebook” heading and use a customize text (I will tell you in the next part).
8. You are ready, click “Get Code” button!
9. The default code is HTML5 (highlighted in blue), we will not use that, please click “IFRAME” and use that code instead. It’s like embedding a YouTube video and you don’t need to add any codes inside your website’s template.
10. Leave that page open and let’s proceed to the next and final step. For back up purposes, you can copy and paste that code on a notepad and save it on your hard drive.

Take a deep breath as you are close to seeing your Facebook like box live on your website! Let’s proceed! The next step has two options: Blogger and WordPress.

For Blogger:

If you run your blog or site on Blogger.com, please follow the simple steps below. Again, this tutorial is made simple for beginners. I understand that it might be confusing at times. Instead of narrating the steps like telling a fairy tale story, I do it on a number list to ensure that this exercise will give you no headache.

1. Press Ctrl + T. A new tab will open and go to your Blogger.com dashboard here.
2. I assume you have several blogs on Blogger, click on the blog you want to work with right now. Go to “Layout” then click “Add Gadget” on the sidebar and let the new window (half sized) completely loads all the options, scroll down a little bit and you can see “HTML/JavaScript”. Click that one and let it loads.
3. Go back to the Facebook developers’ page. Copy the Facebook like box code inside the light box and paste it on the Blogger HTML/JavaScript content box.
4. Remember #7 on the first part? I told you to unchecked the header because you will give your widget a custom heading by giving it a “Title”. Save you widget and drag it to your desired location on the sidebar (top, middle or bottom of the sidebar).
5. View your site on another tab. If the Facebook like box does not fit on your sidebar, go back and edit the widget and play the size of your plugin. The default width is 292px, and the default height is 258px, you can adjust the width and the height to come up with a size that will perfectly fit and blend with your site’s sidebar. Save you work and repeat the process if necessary.

There are few advance options to customize the plugin; you can customize your Facebook like box with CSS if you want to change its text color and the like. I made this tutorial as comprehensive as possible for beginners only. Please click here to experiment more like assigning your plugin a custom CSS.

For WordPress:

Okay, if you are hosting your site or blog on wordpress.com or if you are running it as a self-hosted site/blog, I will teach you a simple way to add your Facebook like box code to a new “text” widget. You know, I encountered some people on fiverr.com that buy gigs for adding or creating fan pages or adding this code to their WordPress blog, if you can follow my simple instructions, you can save 5 bucks for good.

1. Go to your WordPress dashboard.
2. Go to Appearance and choose ‘Widgets”.
3. Expand your “Primary Sidebar” and drag a “Text” widget from the left and put it inside there. You may place it on the top, middle or bottom.
4. Remember #10 on the first part? I told you to leave the Facebook developers’ page open, go there and copy the code and paste it on the “Text” widget on your WordPress primary sidebar. If you accidentally close the Facebook developers’ page, look for the notepad where you saved the code (#10). Give your widget a title (#4 for Blogger).
5. Save and open your site in a new tab. If the plugin does not fit with your sidebar widget, please follow #5 on the second part (for Blogger).

Blogger and WordPress HTML/JavaScript and Text Widget are pretty similar. All the codes and scripts that work on the former will perfectly work on the latter too. That’s the reason that I feel in love with WordPress so fast when I migrated my blog there last December 2012. Since I have over 2 years of experience on tweaking Blogger.com templates, I can handle much of the CSS tweaking on WordPress though I find it hard to work with PHP. Anyway, I hope that this tutorial works for you. If not, do not hesitate to ask my help.

Pinterest is a leading social media tool, where many brands and individual marketers have been using it for promoting their products, services or even simply, their blogs.But in order for your effort to result in conversions, you need to have Pinterest followers.

In my previous post ” The Art of Pinteresing: Your Ultimate Guide to Pinterest Business Account“, I illustrated in details how to set your Pinterest business account.But an account with no followers would be like an isolated island. You need to connect your island with the world, so that people will get to know you.

Do not worry, I have tips for you to increase your Pinterest followers, and connect your island with the world!

How to increase your Pinterest followers.

1. Define your goals.

For promoting your brand through Pinterest, you should have a clear plan in mind. Name your boards according to these goals, one goal for each board, this will make it easier for you to decide what to pin, and where to pin it.

2. Give your boards clear names.

For example: naming a board “Tips and tricks” will not be a good idea, whereas “Makeup Tips” would sound better. Thus will make navigating through your boards easier and eventually result in  increasing your Pinterest followers.

Tip: If you have some pins that do not have any relation to your brand, collect these pins in a secret board, rather than creating a second Pinterest account, I have one named “Pin now read later” secret board for SEO related pins, well, it is not a secret board anymore!  However, this way I can keep my non-related pins somewhere nearby

3. Keep your boards unique.

Pinners like to get the first peek at the newest content before it spread all over Pinterest, so pin from other resources other than pinning only from Pinterest.

Tip: Some of the most common pins on Pinterest are infographics and instructographics. So try to make your own instructographics just like this one.

4. Only pin high quality images and videos.

High quality pins are most likely to be repinned.  When you pin law quality pins, it is most likely that Pinterest users will not follow your boards. Always keep in mind that the users of Pinterest are looking to share and repin creative ideas and advice.

In beauty, I noticed that my followers like instructographics, so I created this honey face mask instrucographic. It was repinned 139 times in just few days.

5. Create a variety of boards.

Pinterest users mostly tend to follow some boards, so break your goals into several boards each of which has a specific theme. You will be happy when you see that helps increasing your Pinterest followers.

Make sure that the board name shows what is inside, and choose a nice pin to show on the cover. Check my Pinterest boards here.

6. Comment and like pins.

Engagement in social media is very important for gaining others attention. Comment on others pins, and if they add value repin them. This way you increase the chance of adding new Pinterest followers to your list!

Tip: use the search tool to look for pins of your own niche, comment, like and repin if they add value. This will increase your chance of getting a new follower who will be interested in what you pin.

7. Follow others.

It is a good idea to follow others of same interest, you can learn from them, in addition to offer more attention to your boards.

8. Use pin description cleverly.

When writing pin description, make sure you write a good optimized description. Include keywords and hashtags. Although the # symbol is not used officially in Pinterest, yet. Using the hashtag makes it easier for other users to find your pins when they search for a certain keyword, giving you a better chance of increasing your Pinterest followers.

9. Tag users.

Similar to Facebook and other social Medias, you can tag users in comments if you follow at least one of their boards. When you type the @ sign, potential matches for those you follow will load and you will be able to choose a name from a drop down list. Once you tag a user you grap their attention, hopefully attracting a new Pinterest follower.

10. Invite your friends to join Pinterest.

A good option for attracting new Pinterest followers is by inviting your friends through email, Facebook, Gmail and Yahoo. People who know you are more likely to follow you.

11. ­­­Use “Follow Me” button and “Pin it” button.

You can easily embed these buttons in your blog or website using social media plugins, or by grasping them from Pinterest. These two buttons work as reminders to the reader that you have a Pinterest account. Using the “Follow me “button, the reader can easily find your Pinterest profile page, and if like it, will follow you! These buttons are available on Pinterest’s goodies page.

12. Consistency.

Consistent use of Pinterest is vital in increasing the number of your followers. Try to assign time everyday for pinning, commenting and liking other pins. Always try to provide fresh and up-to-date pins.

Fake Twitter users are useless. It will only represent a number of your followers, but it won’t help you promote your content at all. I have read some micro jobs sites like SEOclerks and Fiverr. I am sad knowing that some website owners are willing to pay some bucks for fake Twitter followers. It’s a complete waste of hard-earned money online!

Let’s get to the point! How can you get more Twitter followers? I mean – real twitter followers?

• Log in to your twitter account and look for your competitors Twitter followers and follow them (but do not follow corporate accounts, choose all individuals with a good bio.)
• Use Hashtags to search for Twitter users who are interested in your content. By doing so, you will see users who are bloggers, and readers who use the particular Hashtag you enter in the search box. If they do so, they are 100% percent interested in your content! Is it a targeted traffic, no?!
• People who are followed will follow back. That’s Twitter. Most users are using a follow tool that will automatically follow people who follow them. Some users also follow people manually upon getting notifications from Twitter on their inbox.

Is that enough?! No. Following users on Twitter is not enough to promote your content. If you want them to click your links, or retweet your tweets, you need to connect with them.

• Retweet – give first
• Read replies
• Reply to tweets
• Engage – visit their blogs or like them on Facebook
• Tweet in less than 140 characters (am working on that) because short is sweet
• Send private messages and do not sell something, talk to them instead
• Be active everyday, not the entire day though (at least some couple of minutes and make it a habit – am practicing that, hopefully it’ll become my habit soon)

How about your Bio? Remember, you only have 160 characters in order to convince people to follow you and check some of your awesome stuff!

• Is it good to make it sounds like a corporate business?
• Or, is it more effective to make it sounds like individuals?
• Does using a company logo attracts more real followers?
• Or, is it more effective to use your head shot?!

If you will gonna ask my opinion, and opinion of some Twitter experts – make your Twitter presence sounds like an individual who is eager to talk to your followers like friends… that’s where engagement can better start with.

How if you don’t have the time to follow users?

Let me share my little secret. Just last week, I asked my sister to do the task for me. I give her different hashtags per day; she’ll search that on Twitter and follow users who have tweeted that particular hashtag! So far, it’s effective!!! Anyway, there are certain limits though, as long as this activity sounds natural, then I guess you won’t encounter a problem. I recommend you to review the Twitter Limits.

How can you get more Twitter followers recap:

Twitter has millions of active users each day, so make use of it. Promote your content on Twitter by increasing your twitter followers. Choose real people. Follow them so they will follow you back! Retweets, do not tweets all self-serving links! Make your tweets a resource of your followers. Engage, make a way to connect with them, even outside Twitter.

Note: Unfollow people who are not following you back, or unfollow users who are not real users at all (I am starting to do that, as well). However, do not unfollow them at once.
