Seminole Casino Hollywood, across the street from Seminole Hard Rock, will deal their first hand of blackjack during special ceremonies Friday, Aug. 20 and is guaranteeing it will have $5 tables available for play 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“Our primary market is south Broward and Miami Dade counties where racinos can only offer so-called virtual blackjack,” said Robert Dearstine, director of marketing. “We believe that live games at the low limit of $5 will be a tremendous selling point for this property.”

After brief speeches starting at noon by Seminole leaders and Seminole Gaming CEO Jim Allen, Seminole Casino Hollywood General Manager Adrian Fox will begin play by announcing: “Guests Place Your Bets” to 84 seated guests at the casino’s 12 blackjack tables, including Seminole Tribal Council members, comedian Jimmie Walker, GSN Catch 21 show host, Alfonso Ribeiro, local media celebrities, and other VIPs.

Ribeiro is best known for his comedic portrayal of Will Smith’s uptight cousin, Carlton, in the TV series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Comedian Jimmie “JJ” Walker, who coined the catch-phrase, “Dy-no-mite!” was the star of the Good Times sitcom on CBS.

The party starts when a junkanoo band begins roaming the floor and tossing blackjack beads. The reggae band Higher Ground will perform all afternoon, and at 6 p.m., Jimmie Walker will perform his hilarious stand-up act. Singer Rachel Brown and her band will also perform from 7:30 until 1 a.m. when a special guest DJ will take over until 4:30 a.m. And of course, the $5 blackjack action will “party on” all night. Just a few of the local media celebrities confirmed to play the ceremonial first hand of blackjack are:

Kenny Walker, WKIS-FM 99.9, morning show host
Donny Michaels, WFLC-FM 97.3, “The Coast” midday host
Vance Phillips, WMXJ-FM 102.7, All Request Show host
DJ Gringo, WXDJ-FM El Zol 95.7, morning show mixer
Stephanie Bromfield, WLYF-FM, 101.5, weekend host
Greg “Toast” LaMega, WBGG-FM 105.9 and WKGR-FM 98.7, morning show personality
Rob “O’Snap” White, WHQT-FM HOT-105, Old School House Party host

Seminole casinos can offer real blackjack exclusively 24 hours a day, seven days a week due to a compact agreement passed into law by the Florida Legislature and approved by the U.S. Department of the Interior in July. Seminole Casino Coconut Creek began higher limit blackjack games on Aug. 13. Seminole Casino Hollywood hired 90 blackjack dealers, mostly from Florida, for its 12 tables.

The new card game offers casino players an eighth table game in addition to Blackjack, Baccarat, Mini-Baccarat, Pai Gow Poker, Three Card Poker, Texas Hold’em Bonus Poker and Let it Ride at South Florida’s ultimate casino and entertainment destination.

“We added Casino War because we wanted to give our players more variety and options,” said Joe Giaimo, regional VP of table games at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. “Casino War is a really player friendly game in that it’s very easy to play and win. We’re always looking for ways to keep things fresh and offer our customers new and exciting card games.”

Casino War is the fastest, simplest table game to learn and play. You make a bet in the marked area. You and the dealer will each receive a card face up. If your card is higher than the dealer’s, you win even money. If your card is lower, you lose (Ace is high).

Going to War: If your card matches the dealer’s in rank, you can either surrender half your bet or “go to war.” When going to war, you and the dealer match your original bet, putting the money on the layout. You and the dealer will each get another card, and if you beat the dealer, you win all three bets. If you go to war and tie the dealer, not only do you win, but you win an extra unit. Winning ties when going to war is huge.

Tie Bet: Casino War also features a bonus bet on ties. If you bet the tie and your card matches the dealer’s, you win 10 to 1.

The new casino war table game can be found by players in Pit 5 across from the Hard Rock Cafe.

The Seminole Paradise Poker Room at Hard Rock Hollywood will have new electronic tracking machines, called the Genesis Bravo system, by mid-June.

The new tracking machines should serve as a way for the Seminoles to take advantage of the influx of new players to be arriving in Florida poker rooms once the new no-limit laws go into effect on July 1st. New players will be testing the different poker rooms and the Seminoles want to have the best amenities from the start.

The Genesis Bravo system utilizes a convenient tableside swipe unit to accurately track all players seated at the table, and notify the host of any open seats. Also, the system tracks hourly comps to the minute, so all players will know that the time they put in is adding up accurately. Comp reward points will be accrued electronically on players’ Seminole Player’s Club Wild Card which can then be redeemed at a variety of Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino’s restaurants, retail outlets and more.

Other in-house benefits of the high-tech Genesis Bravo system include the registering and management of tournament play (including buy-in, re-buy and add-on tracking), dealer auditing, food and beverage selection and leader board tracking and display, remote monitoring and more.

Players will benefit from the system by being able to electronically place themselves on a popular game wait list and then be notified by text or email when their favorite game and limit has opened.

“At Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, we want to ensure we have the premier poker room in South Florida. The Genesis Bravo System now allows us to streamline the playing process with dealer-controlled decisions, instantly reward our customers and keep them electronically up-to-date on their ratings, status and preferred games,” said Director of Poker Operations, Peter Arsenis.

Currently, Poker Players receive vouchers where they can redeem their points for rated play at various outlets at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. In the near future, poker players will be able to use their Seminole Player’s Club Wild Card to redeem their rewards as Genesis Bravo will synchronize with the same rewards program slot players enjoy at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino – Hollywood.

Expect many more perks from all the different poker rooms across Florida as the race to attract new players heats up.

No-limit poker hits Florida poker rooms on July 1st. The new laws will mean many changes for the game in the state and our gaming analyst, Jade Brown, believes Florida could become the Vegas of the east coast.

Buying in for $100 max at a $5/$10 poker table is not an attractive option for serious poker players in Florida. But then again, with the old laws, there were no serious poker players in Florida.

Okay, enough with poker in Florida being the big joke around the country. Florida poker players have been dying to play the game for high stakes and starting in July they will finally be able to do so.

The New Poker Laws
Senate Bill 622 was signed into law on April 28th as part of the Seminole Gambling Compact. The bill, which officially goes into effect on July 1st, makes it legal for all poker rooms in Florida to offer no-limit games. That change alone has the power to transform Florida into the poker capital of the east coast.

The bill also made it legal for all Florida pari-mutuel and jai-alai facilities to operate all variations of poker games, and it allows them to increase their hours of operation to eighteen on Monday through Friday, and twenty-four on weekends. It also allows racing facilities to offer less live racing without having to pay higher poker taxes.

What the New Laws Means for Poker Rooms in Florida
More competition.

Over the course of the next several months and few years, each poker room across the state will be jockeying for a position in the market. Each room’s current position is that they will offer whatever games their players demand.

In an interview with Casino Pulse, Will Herrera, Poker Director for Mardi Gras Casino, said that, “The goal is to become as player-friendly as possible.”

Most poker rooms will try to please as many players as possible, as Mardi Gras intends to do, but most poker rooms will be defined by the type of players that gravitate to their room.

So some poker rooms will become ‘the place where ‘the fish’ are bitin’.’ Some will become ‘the place where the pro’s go.’ Others will become ‘the home of the locals.’

The West Palm Beach Kennel Club will be able to open up a new poker room anywhere in West Palm Beach without live racing, giving them a distinct advantage over most other poker rooms.

With the new, more lax racing requirements, other poker rooms will be popping up around the state, and they too will compete for their share of the market.

What No-Limit Poker Means for Tournaments in Florida
A greater amount of more varied tournaments.

The biggest casinos in the country host circuit events for major poker tours such as the World Poker Tour and the World Series of Poker. Buy-ins range from $1,000 to $10,000 and higher. Up until this deal was agreed upon, Florida card rooms did not have the ability to bring those high stakes tournaments to the state. Now they do.

But it is not so much the tournaments themselves that excite the poker rooms. It’s the side cash games the tournaments spark.

“Many tournament players and those that follow the tournament circuit really enjoy the side action cash games that pop up when an influx of new players comes into a room,” Herrera said.

Expect an abundance of new tournaments with high stakes, side action cash games, starting on July 1st.

What No-Limit Games Mean for Professional Poker Players
Vacations to Florida.

Professional poker players travel in order to play in some of the biggest tournaments and richest cash games in the world. Florida, home to some of the wealthiest people in the world, celebrities, and tourists with deep wallets, will be like an oasis of easy money for these poker pro’s.

Expect to start seeing the faces you are used to seeing on TV at the very high stakes tables near you. And don’t worry about playing these pro’s, unless of course you are buying in for at least $50k.

What the New Law Means for Online Players in Florida
Interaction with real people.

With high stakes games now available at land-based poker rooms, online poker players will have the opportunity to play the game they love at live tables. Many online players will ditch their computers for the chance to win big money from inexperienced Florida players. It remains to be seen how good these online players will be in real live settings, but expect to see many more of them at the tables.

What the New Law Means in General for Poker in Florida
Skill will start to matter.

Up until now it was not uncommon to hear Florida poker players say there is no skill in the game, after coming home from a poker room with a depleted bankroll. “The guy went all in with 4-9 off suit and won!” says one poker player. “Poker is all luck,” says another player. That may have been true before, but no longer will that be the case.

For the first time, skill is going to play the most important role in the game of poker in Florida. It’s about time!

The largest jackpot won at Seminole Casino Brighton had been $129,882.45 in July, 2006. In October 2008 a local 69-year-old great grandmother won $79,000 on a Forbidden Treasures progressive slot machine at the casino located in Okeechobee.

Like other progressive gaming machines, that machine is linked to all North American Indian casinos including the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s seven casinos. Progressive machine jackpots increase each time a game is played at the linked casinos. All seven Seminole Tribe of Florida casinos now also offer Las Vegas-style slot machines.

William W. and his wife are regular players at Brighton Seminole Casino and also frequent flyers to Las Vegas and Biloxi casinos. But they had never won a jackpot of this size. They told casino officials that they are going to pay off some of their bills with the “Instant Fortune” win and enjoy the rest.

The Seminole Casino Brighton is a 27,000-square-foot casino with 240 slot and gaming machines, a 10-table poker room, and 500 high-stake bingo seats, with full service restaurant and lounge. Its warm and friendly staff, ultra-modern air-conditioning system, clean atmosphere, and rewarding casino promotions are a welcome alternative to big city gaming.

A poker bad beat occurs when an apparently unbeatable hand loses to a better hand. Fifty percent of the Seminole Mega Bad Beat prize pool is awarded to the qualifying losing hand; 30 percent to the qualifying winning; and 20 percent divided among the remaining players.

“This is the ninth Seminole Mega Bad Beat Poker Jackpot awarded and the second one this month,” said Jeffrey Hook, senior vice president of marketing, Seminole Gaming. “In fact, our six-casino approach to more frequent bad beat winning has resulted in two Mega Jackpots each month this year,” he added.

The Seminole Mega Bad Beat Jackpot was launched on Dec. 1, funded by a $1 contribution from each pot of $10 or greater at the poker rooms in six Seminole casinos: Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Hollywood, Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Tampa, Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, Seminole Casino Immokalee, Seminole Casino Brighton, and Seminole Casino, Hollywood.

Once it is won, the jackpot immediately resets at $100,000; something done only at Seminole casinos in Florida. Seminole Casino, Immokalee has its own unique payout system, whereby each live poker player in their casino at the time of a Seminole Mega Bad Beat hit receives $100, no matter where it hits.

The Seminole Mega Bad Beat Jackpot rules are straightforward: Only the top two hands at the showdown are eligible and both hands must be the best possible combination of five cards. The minimum losing hand is four 10s. At least four players must be dealt for the table to qualify. Multi-table tournaments are excluded. Single table tournaments are eligible until fewer than four players remain. Players must play their hands independently. Management reserves the right to declare a jackpot null and void due to any irregularities and/or collusion, and its decisions are final.
