According to the german institution IVW, which measures the reach of every advertising medium in the country, SpielAffe.de actually ranks among the 40 biggest german online portals. With Fliplife, KaiserGames now aquires a company located only a few kilometers from their own headquarters in Cologne.

Fliplife is a browser games company, that runs a game by the same name. You are able to “flip” your life and pursue a career in countless industries and jobs. You may start as a dishwasher, but if you’re good and do your work properly, you will be climbing the ladder quickly, maybe ending up as the big boss of a well known company in Fliplife.

KaiserGames was already involved in Fliplifes early steps as one of the seed investors, buying the whole package only two years later. Besides KaiserGames, Fliplife had different investors such as RapidShare Entertainment, the German High-Tech Gründerfonds and Mountain Super Angel from Switzerland, as well as the NRW.BANK.

“We saw the potential of Fliplife quite early. So acquiring the company is a reasonable step for us.”, says Ilker Aydin, CEO and Founder of KaiserGames. And Tobias Hartmann, one of the three founders of Fliplife, is equally enthusiastic:”With KaiserGames, we found the perfect partner to push Fliplife to the next level. They are one of the big players in the casual games business and we are happy, that KaiserGames will write the next part of the Fliplife story.”

It’s one of Spil Games flagship portals and one of the biggest gaming sites worldwide. GirlsgoGames.com is a portal dedicated only to girls (or other people who like to dress up celebrities, bake a cake and do some interior design…). Anyways, our CasualNews team just discovered, that Spil Games is offering their hugely successful domain on Sedo, the world’s largest domain marketplace. Do they really want to sell one of their most popular brands or is it just a market research effort in order to check the value of their product?

Honestly, we really can’t imagine why Spil should be trying to sell GirlsgoGames. It’s their biggest portal according to Alexa and the GirlsgoGames-brand is well known across lots of countries, being highly successful in Germany and the UK and being pretty popular in the Netherlands as well, for example. Unfortunately no price is being displayed, so we don’t know, what Spil Games is hoping for – IF they really want to get rid of the domain. Which again is hard to believe. We’ll keep an eye on it.

Meanwhile check the Alexa statistics for GirlsgoGames.com and GirlsgoGames.de above.

UPDATE: We talked to Spil Games just this morning. And as we already assumed, they are definitely not selling GirlsgoGames. Why Sedo has been listing the domain as “negotiable” – we don’t have a clue. But by now this problem is fixed and we’re happy to know that Spil Games is keeping their really valuable brand.

In November 2010, we wrote about A10.com being shut down by Spil Games. Now, after more than a year, we were surprised to discover, that obviously Spil decided, it is worth giving A10.com another try. With a new design and a smaller, yet high quality selection of games, the portal seems to be still focussing on a younger male target audience. In 2010, A10.com had not been growing as fast as Spil had hoped.

The portal had been closed in mid-2010 and according to Alexa.com re-opened in September 2011, where traffic numbers are rising again. By February 2012, A10.com is close to returning to its former glory. In 2010, we assumed, that the site reached around 100.000 daily visits. As the site is growing steadily since September, it is likely to reach those old traffic numbers by the middle of 2012 again.

We weren’t able to get more information on why they re-launched the portal and why they chose a completely different design compared to the old site. Actually, the current design is one you find pretty often among newer gaming portals these days. It is pretty sleek, with a clear layout and only a bunch of games. We like it.

If there is any news about Spilgames intention with their updated portal, we will let you know.

The fourth consecutive Casual Connect Conference in Hamburg was a huge success and saw around 1.650 visitors. 96 percent of those were experts from the industry, including games companies, marketers, developers, payment service providers and more. Three percent were representatives of the press. This is a new record in the history of Casual Connects only event in Europe. And as we expected, there has been a trend towards social and mobile gaming, which is nothing new, though. Still, flash and browser games are a huge part of the industry and will be in the future. That’s what we experienced in our interviews with lots of experts and this is also our very own assumption. Even years from now, people will still play in front of their computers or laptops at home.

With the new innovation showcase, the event displayed twelve games in an “art-gallery” style exhibition. These games have been selected from a whole bunch of games and are considered the most innovative titles for Web and iOS devices. Visitors could play and developers could find inspiration for creating their own games with new and innovative ideas. Among the featured games were titles from Spilgames, Ninja Kiwi and Adult Swim.

As every year, a significant and important part of the conference were the lectures held by impressive speakers from all over the industry. Among them was Riccardo Zacconi, CEO of King.com as well as Richard Bartle, Professor of Computer Game Design at the Univerity of Essex, UK. So visitors had the chance to experience every point of view within the games industry. Additional lectures were held by executives from Microsoft, Adobe, Newzoo or Digital Chocolate.

One of the most interesting facts, though, is that the Casual Games Association – organizer of the Casual Connect events – will launch an additional event to the conferences in Hamburg, Seattle and Ukraine. Casual Connect Asia will be held in Singapore from 22 – 24 May 2012 for the first time. Another indicator of a steadily growing industry.

I believe, we don’t have to lose many words on the biggest flash games portal owner in the whole business. With almost 50 sites offering tons of games in most languages and for several target audiences, Spilgames is highly successful in offering flash games for every preference. Besides publishing games from third party developers, Spilgames is developing games inhouse, like the incredibly successful Uphill Rush series.

As we already reported, Spilgames is currently expanding into the turkish market. In Hamburg, we talked about Spils plans for the future with Stefan Beckmann, Country Manager Germany. Watch Stefan talk about HTML 5 and the importance of flash game portals in our video interview at the Casual Connect Conference 2012 in Hamburg:

With titles like Grepolis, The West or Tribal Wars, they already run several well-known games. So far, Innogames has mostly released browser games for core gamers.

With a new title in the pipeline, called Lagoonia, they are planning to address typical casual gamers and core gamers as well. As we have heard from many people at the Casual Connect, the borders between casual and core are going to blur even more in the future. So Lagoonia seems to be a perfect new title for Innogames. Find out, what else we talked about with Volker Dressel, CMO of Innogames, in our video interview below.

Riccardo Zacconi is arguably one of the most known and most successful entrepreneurs of the casual gaming era. With King.com, he founded a portal for skillgaming fans all over the world, who seek the thrill of playing fun games for real money in a safe online environment.

Of course, King.com also released games on facebook, like the – overall and especially visually – extremely polished game Bubble Witch Saga. Riccardo’s knowledge of the casual games industry is more than impressive. This is why we took a little different approach to the interview situation this time. As a man, who has a lot to say, we thought it might be interesting to let Riccardo do the talking an see, what his thoughts about the past, the present and the future of casual gaming are.

There is nothing left to say, so enjoy Mr. King.com himself in our video interview in Hamburg at the annual Casual Connect Conference 2012:

While Achim as a natural entrepreneur runs gamecity:Hamburg honorary, his full time job is his own public relations company Quinke Networks. Here he makes sure, gaming companies get the public attention they deserve. Currently Achim is helping Spilgames in all parts concerning public relations in Germany, for example.

Our second interview partner this year is Philip Reisberger, Chief Revenue Officer at Hamburg-based browser games giant Bigpoint. Just as last year, Philip was eager to tell us about the developments in his company and what the future might bring to the browser games market. Philip is leading a team of professionals at Bigpoint, which concentrates on putting the ideal monetization models into practice. (Together with his twin brother Tobias, btw). Although we didn’t expect it any differently, we were again staggered by Philips intense knowledge of the gaming market and the dedication and passion he talks with about his company.

It was interesting to hear, that flash game portals still generate a huge part of the income for Bigpoint, while for Youdagames, as CEO Horst Streck told us, the importance of flash games portals was decreasing.

Thanks a lot for the interview, Philip.

CasualNews.com is currently visiting the beautiful german city of Hamburg, where the annual Casual Connect Conference is taking place. With all the big and many small companies from the casual games industry, there is a lot going on and a lot to be talked about. With CasualNews.com only covering the most interesting and unique stories, we would like to start our video interview coverage with Horst Streck, CEO and founder of YoudaGames.

Horst talked with us about the necessity (or redundancy) of flash games portals and how YoudaGames will continue to offer interesting new concepts and games to their users in the future. One of them is Governor of Poker Social, which takes the well known and incredibly successfull GoP-brand to the next level. As he told us after the interview in a little chat, Governor or Poker 1 and 2 both still are the most successful games in their portfolio and have been for years now. With the new social version, YoudaGames added tons of great features to an already famous game.

We want to thank Horst for his precious time and for being a natural talent in the spotlight!
