WINDHAM MOUNTAIN RESORT INVESTS $7 MILLION IN CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS

WINDHAM MOUNTAIN, N.Y. – Windham Mountain Resort has invested $7 million in capital improvements for the 2013-14 season. Projects include an expanded beginner area, a new entry and modernized parking lot, a new trail on the Resort's west peak along with glade skiing, investment in snowmaking infrastructure, construction of a new expanded compressor and maintenance building and improvements at Windham Country Club.

"The investment we have made this summer and for the coming winter will continue the transformation of how our Resort does business," said president and general manager Chip Seamans. "We are committed to enhancing the Resort's customer experience and expanding our year-round offerings."

Visitors will immediately see a large portion of the investment when arriving at the Resort. The access road and main driveway to the base lodge now takes a new route to create space for the extensive beginner area expansion project. The expansion includes two acres of beginner terrain with two conveyor lifts for skiers and riders to learn the sport. The expansion supports Windham Mountain's family-friendly reputation and fits with snow sports industry initiatives to retain skiers and riders, and attract new participants into the sport.

A new intermediate trail on Windham Mountain's west peak has been cut and will be outfitted with snowmaking for the coming winter. The trail will connect to a former natural snow-only trail Upper Wipeout, a portion of which has also been upgraded to include snowmaking for 2013-14. In addition acreage has been cleared for glade skiing on the west peak.

Windham Mountain's snowmaking system is undergoing impressive changes with over $1.5 million in infrastructure upgrades. After several years of investment to improve efficiency and quality, the core of the system is now being upgraded. Four high-efficiency compressors will replace the nine current compressors, and a mid-mountain booster pump will increase the quantity of snow made on the top half of the 3,100 foot mountain.

Since its acquisition, the Resort has invested $1 million beyond its purchase price for Windham Country Club. Construction is in progress on five holes. New irrigation has been added, certain holes redesigned or restored, and the entire five holes, tees, fairways, and roughs have been sodded. It is expected that the five holes, along with the 13 original holes, will be open for play Labor Day weekend or shortly thereafter. The clubhouse is also newly renovated with the addition of Windham's newest restaurant, Mulligan's Pub.

Overall the Resort's improvements at Windham Country Club and Windham Mountain have resulted in the creation of 50 jobs directly related to the projects. The new beginner terrain will create winter season jobs including lift operators, parking staff and shuttle drivers. The addition of Windham Country Club offers opportunities for year-round employment and officials are confident that 10 or more year-round jobs will be created as a result the $7 million investment.

Now offering skiing and riding, operating 12 restaurants and lounges, a summer and winter Adventure Park, hotel, and a golf course, the Resort hopes to expand the northeast's premier alpine lifestyle to more year-round visitors. Hudson River Art Trail in the Great Northern Catskills of Greene County Offers Artistic Adventure

GREENE COUNTY, NY – This summer, take an artistic hiking trip through the Catskill Mountains and discover the scenic vistas that inspired America's first distinctive artistic style, the Hudson River School of Art.

From the front steps of the founding father's home in Catskill, now the Thomas Cole National Historic Site, the Hudson River School of Art Trail winds along the pristine river valleys and mountain peaks that captivated Cole and his contemporaries. At each of the first eight sites along the Hudson Valley section of the Art Trail, a special metal plaque with a rubbing medallion has been installed, allowing visitors to do a pencil rubbing as a keepsake. The Art Trail includes sites in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, with the final site due for installation in Yellowstone National Park later this year.

Hudson River School painters captivated the world in the early-to-mid-1800s with their fierce desire to preserve America's wild places and raise awareness through art of the fragile balance between nature and civilization. Cole and his contemporaries captured the wild, breathtaking beauty of America's untouched forests, mountains and rivers, laying the foundation for what would become our National Parks.

Awaken to Adventure along the Hudson River School Art Trail and see Kaaterskill Falls, the highest cascading waterfall in New York State, gaze across the Hudson River Valley from the lofty perch that was once the Catskill Mountain House, and stop at North-South Lake and Sunset Rock. There are 15 Art Trail sites in the Hudson River Valley, and many of the hiking trails offer easy-to-moderate conditions, though some require skill and should only be attempted by experienced hikers. Special markers are located at key sites so visitors know which artist stopped to paint at that site.

The Thomas Cole National Historic Site is open Wednesday to Sunday each week, from May through October. Guided tours of Cole's house and studio are offered for a fee, though visitors are welcome to tour the grounds, visitor center and gift shop free of charge.

Greene County Tourism, in partnership with the Great Northern Catskills Chamber of Commerce, will be hosting the 2013 Spring Tourism Seminar at the Kaatskill Mountain Club at Hunter Mountain, on Thursday, April 25 from 3 to 7 p.m. The event will combine a seminar for the tourist industry along with a Chamber Business After Hours event.

"The Spring Tourism Seminar provides an important opportunity for members of the industry to get together to meet the County Tourism Team, including the County's Tourism Advisory Committee, to network and to become more informed about digital advertising and marketing," said Warren Hart, Director of the Greene County Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Planning.

Seminar highlights will include:

Roll-out of County Tourism's innovative summer advertising campaign, "The Adventure Passport Contest"; Announcement of a new grant-based web marketing program for tourism businesses; and a special presentation by Kathode Ray Media on Being Effective with Web-Based Tourism Marketing.

The County's integrated advertising, marketing and public relations program is consistently leading on-line search engine rankings for the Catskills Region, improving Greene County's visibility and supporting increases in visitor spending and room occupancy. The Great Northern Catskills Announces the Launch of Mobile Website

GREENE COUNTY, NY – The Great Northern Catskills of Greene County announce the launch of a new mobile travel website – M.GreatNorthernCatskills.com – just in time for the holiday weekend.

Mobile websites allow users to access specific information with the touch of a finger. As of last year, more than one billion of the world's four billion mobile phone users were using Smartphones and more than 50 percent of all "local" searches were done from a mobile device. Mobile traffic to www.GreatNorthernCatskills.com has more than doubled since the site launched in May 2011. By 2014, experts predict that mobile internet usage will far outrank desktop usage.

Now, Smartphone and tablet users can access the best of the Great Northern Catskill's lodging options, package deals, events, attractions and outdoor recreation opportunities on the go.

"After the launch of our new brand and website (www.GreatNorthernCatskills.com) in May 2011, we determined that there was a need to have a mobile-friendly website to reach out to the people who are using their phones to access travel information," stated Warren Hart, Director of Economic Development, Tourism and Planning for Greene County.

M.GreatNorthernCatskills.com was developed by the Great Northern Catskills of Greene County and Adworkshop of Lake Placid, NY.

The mobile website launch is part of Greene County's spring and summer initiative to market events and family resorts in the Great Northern Catskills. Additionally, new mobile ads will be launched so that when users click on an ad from their phone, they will be taken to the mobile website for a better, more satisfying user experience. Printed events banners and posters distributed around Greene County will support the new mobile site, allowing visitors to access what is happening in the Great Northern Catskills via a QR, or Quick Response Code. The QR code allows users with a free QR scanner app on their smart phone to quickly scan the code and search for events by date or category, or view a list of events happening for the next 10 days.

“Spare Seat Kayak Expedition” to Launch May 1, 2012 on Erie Canal and Hudson River

GREENE COUNTY, NY – This May, the legacy of New York State's Erie Canal and Hudson River will lure kayaker Richard Harpham and photographer Glenn Charles to kayak an epic 500 miles from Buffalo's Historic Erie Canal Harbor on May 1, 2012 to the Statue of Liberty at the end of the month – and you're invited along for the ride.

New York State's Division of Tourism, I LOVE NEW YORK, invited world-renowned kayaker, Richard Harpham, from the U.K. to make history while chronicling the dynamic locations along the Erie Canal and its 35 locks, before reaching Albany and joining the Hudson River. The trip continues south on the Hudson River, stopping in the Great Northern Catskills at the Coxsackie Yacht Club to meet and greet before continuing on to their iconic final destination - the Statue of Liberty.

The journey is called 'New York State's Spare Seat Kayak Expedition' as both Harpham and Charles will kayak the route in double seated kayaks, inviting members of the public and media to join them along the way.

Spare Seat will be making a stop in the Great Northern Catskills, and is scheduled to arrive at the Coxsackie Yacht Club at 3:30 pm on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. A press conference is scheduled for 12 pm on Wednesday, May 16 at the Coxsackie Riverside Park. Locals and visitors will have an opportunity to meet Harpham and Charles at Riverside Park before the tour the region. Local paddlers and kayaking clubs can join Harpham and Charles as they continue on their journey down the Hudson River. They will leave from the Coxsackie Riverside Park at 1pm on Wednesday, May 16.

The entire expedition will be photographed and filmed, and hosted on a dedicated website with social media feeds enabling the public to follow Harpham, Charles and all those that join them every stroke of the way.

History, Culture and Folklore Await in the Great Northern Catskills

Explore the Catskills' four hundred years of history, unrivaled artistic and cultural legacy, and beautiful mountain landscape on your next Catskills family vacation. The Great Northern Catskills are the birth place of the first great American art movement, the mythical home of literary legend Rip Van Winkle, and boasts a variety of attractions including Catskills museums, historic sites, cultural venues, exhibits and events that present and preserve the area's storied past.

Start with a visit to the Thomas Cole National Historic Site, the former home and studio of Thomas Cole, the acclaimed landscape painter and founder of the Hudson River School of art. Thomas Cole's home, Cedar Grove, is now a museum and is open for guided tours. The house contains galleries of oil paintings and prints as well as rooms with Cole artifacts and period furnishings. Visitors can view a film about his art, and stroll through the flower gardens to see Cole's sweeping view of the Catskill Mountains.

After a walk through Thomas Cole's home, continue the artistic adventure on The Hudson River Art Trail. This 3-4 hour guided tour takes hikers through the Catskill Mountains to many of the scenic places that inspired the Hudson River School painters. The tour starts at Cedar Grove and takes hikers to sites including North-South Lakes and Kaaterskill Falls.

Other interesting sites include the Bronck Museum, the Zadock Pratt Museum and Pratt Rock. The Bronck museum is a complex of dutch Colonial dwellings, with 18th and 19th century art and furniture and 19th century barns, including the oldest surviving house in the Hudson Valley.

The Zadock Pratt Museum and Pratt Rock Park commemorate the life of Pratt, a distinguished statesman who supported federal legislation for a Transcontinental Railroad, Smithsonian Institution and Washington Monument. Pratt Rock, called "New York's Mount Rushmore" by Ripley's Believe It or Not, is one of the earliest Civil War monuments in the nation. It features white relief carvings estimated to be over 150 years old.

The history of the Catskills cultural scene is marked by successive waves of immigrants beginning with 17th century Dutch colonists. Today, the region hosts several festivals and unique Catskills events throughout the seasons that celebrate the area's ethnic and cultural past. Greene County Kicks Off Integrated Marketing Campaign to Promote the Northern Catskills

Greene County, N.Y.— Greene County Tourism and its community of tourism partners are pleased to announce the launch of its destination marketing campaign with the unveiling of the county's new tourism website www.greatnortherncatskills.com. Partnering with Adworkshop/Inphorm, Greene County's new Agency of Record — an award winning digital marketing agency located in Lake Placid, N.Y.—Greene County intends to keep the region "top of mind" with tourists throughout the Northeast and beyond as a family-friendly retreat that is affordable, convenient and full of fun activities.

Greene County's website redesign is part of a strategic marketing campaign launched earlier this year, complete with rebranding of Greene County as the Great Northern Catskills, a new logo, tagline and website. The effort includes a strategic and targeted media plan integrated with social media platforms and all other channels of outreach to extend the brand's reach.

"Our community of tourism partners identified the need for a new, fresh brand and marketing message that really speaks to what Greene County has to offer – from the high peaks of the Catskills, to the historic Hudson River and the wide variety of outdoor recreation opportunities close to over 20 million people," Warren Hart, Greene County Economic Development, Tourism and Planning director, stated.

The branding process began with the creation of a message map and brand pillars that captured the fundamental essence of Greene County. The campaign's messaging and imagery reflects those core truths of the Great Northern Catskills.

Promotional efforts feature the tagline, "Awaken to Adventure," and highlight the area's many opportunities for family fun and adventure throughout the seasons. The campaign focuses on Greene County's natural beauty, rivers, valleys, popular mountain resorts, golf courses, ski resorts, art history and literary legacy and aims to raise awareness, drive new business and increase visitation and overnight stays.

"We wanted to create a new brand for Greene County that communicated to potential visitors that this is an exceptional four season destination, located less than two hours from major metropolitan areas," stated Greene County Legislature Chairman Wayne Speenburgh. "As families look to save money and vacation closer to home, the Great Northern Catskills are an ideal destination to reconnect and escape the heat of summer."

The new website is a fundamental element of the rebranding process. The site serves as a one-stop tourism resource for travelers. The site features information about the Great Northern Catskills including upcoming events and annual festivals, area attractions, arts and cultural offerings, outdoor activities, lodging properties and its unique all-inclusive family resorts.

"Today's family visitor is online, wired and looking for value," said Ed Kerrigan, owner of Zoom Flume Water Park in Durham. "Today's children have more choices, and know more about far-away tourism destinations, than their parents would have dreamed of 30 years ago. The branding and internet effort is critical to the success of our business, and our continued ability to attract and grow tourism."

The Catskills events page, GreatCatskillEvents.com, is a focal point of the new website, offering tourists and local residents an all-encompassing view of what is going on throughout the region. The page displays images, featured events and upcoming festivals, in addition to a detailed events calendar and information on golf, skiing, zipline tours, the water parkand other traditional attractions.

"Selling what we have, and making it grow, are the keys to a successful tourism economy," said Karen Deyo, the Chairperson of the Greene County Legislature's Government Operations Committee. "Making sure that we reach the largest markets possible in the most effective manner is the key to our success."

Greene County is leveraging valuable insights gleaned from its Tourism Action Plan, conducted in 2009 and 2010 by Marshall Murdaugh Marketing and Tourism Economics LLC, to identify specific goals for future marketing and public relations plans and grow the tourism industry. These goals include increasing the number of overnight visitors, visitor spending, job generation in the tourism industry and increasing incomes and revenue in Greene County.

PREVIOUS PROMOTION: Greene County Tourism's new regional partnership is now offering the first Greene Card, a four season pass to select Greene County attractions. Card holders receive "buy one get one free" tickets to Catskill Mountain ski resorts, golf courses and more.

With the purchase of one mid-week ticket, Greene Card holders will receive an additional free ticket to be redeemed at the time of sale. The offers are valid throughout the 2011-2012 ski seasons and available at Hunter Mountain & Windham Mountain ski resorts, the New York Zipline Adventure, and the Zoom Flume – as well as 9 area golf courses.

"Visitors to Greene County come for various reasons," County Economic Development, Tourism and Planning Director Warren Hart, stated.
