The term is less than a decade old, and is largely unknown in India. Even in England it’s become popular only in the past couple of years. Derived from a Finnish method of training cross-country skiers during the summer months, Nordic walking is becoming a popular alternative to jogging. This sport is similar to the training required for cross-country skiing, but without snow or skis, but using special walking stick-like poles. Brisk walking with the poles is not only good for the legs but for your whole body. The poles support part of your body weight and this takes pressure off the joints.

In this sport, you should walk along briskly with slightly longer strides than in normal walking supported by the poles. The body should be taut and the posture slightly forward-leaning. Keep your head straight, with your eyes on the horizon. The arms swing forward alternatively; the poles hit the ground slightly behind the forward heel and pull through the full length of the stride. Give yourself a good forward impetus with the poles and then open your hand fully. The loops hold the pole in position for a moment and then open you renew your grasp.
If you’re getting the poles make sure they’re the right length. This is crucial. As general rule the length of the poles should be 0.7 times your won height. For beginners, normal running or walking shoes are fine to start off with.
This spirit of creative response aligns with the capacity to exercise moral imagination and to see ethical problems in a new light. To be sure, our most fundamental ethical values -- values such as honesty, avoiding doing harm, keeping commitments -- are grounded in timeless traditions and are not likely to be soon abandoned. But it is in the application of these ethical values to emerging, unique situations, where moral imagination and the entrepreneurial spirit can make a decisive difference.” David Schmidt.

A story of an entrepreneur who believes on himself and whose vision is different than others. Here is the story of entrepreneur Kong;

Alex Kong was genetically destined to be an entrepreneur. When his grandfather arrived on Borneo from China in the 1940s, he established a timber business. His son, Kong’s father, started as a carpenter, and later teamed up with his children to launch a succession of businesses, ranging from seafood exporting to a travel agency.
“If you want to make money, you have to be the boss,” Kong’s father once told him. “Don’t work for somebody else.”
After graduating from the University of Hawaii in 1993 with a degree in tourism planning, Kong returned to Sarawak with plans to get into the travel business. His father had built a hotel in Malaysia’s Gunung Mulu National Park on Borneo Island, but it was struggling due to its remote location. Kong established a travel company that packaged the hotel with transportation and other services. The company, along with his father’s hotel, boomed.
But Kong had bigger plans. An enthusiastic internet user at university, he now wanted to use his technology to expand his travel business. In the mid-1990s the internet was still largely underutilized in Asia, but Kong was convinced that it would take off. When he married his long time sweetheart Catalina Chu in March 1997, the future looked bright.
Within months, everything changed. A thick haze from forest fires in nearby Indonesia engulfed the entire region, keeping tourist away. Then in August, the Malaysian stock market crashed and the currency collapsed. Business slowed to a trickle. All Kong had to fall back on was his plan to start an internet travel business.
Kong sold everything he had and gave $447, 000 to a Kuala Lumpur company to develop an internet-based ticketing and reservation system. “I know this will work,” he assured Catalina. But at the end of 1997, the company went bankrupt without delivering the goods. Kong was completely broke. He couldn’t even afford to care for Catalina, who was pregnant and living in Hong Kong with her parents.
Still, Kong clung to his dream. This is the best time to launch, he told himself. People are looking for bargains. All he had to do was find a financial backer. In early 1998 he met hundreds of bankers and corporate investors. Unable to afford taxis, he sometime showed up for meetings soaking wet from the rain.
“If this project fails, I have nothing left,” he told potential backers. “I have to make this work.” They were touched by his simple, straight-forward approach, but nobody had money to invest.
In April 1998, Kong secured a meeting in Kuala Lumpur with Hanson Cheah, founder of the Hong Kong based venture capital group AsiaTech Venture. Unlike other potential investors, Cheah understood immediately the almost unlimited possibilities of the internet. After Kong’s 90-minute presentation, he took only a few seconds to respond: “How much do you need?”
With an initial investment of $180, 000, Kong started Asia Travel Network in June 1998. The company, through his website Asiatravelmart, links travelers with hotels, airlines and other suppliers. Its bulk buying power secures discounts for customers around the world. Asia Travel Network, which employs more than 100 people, is now a multi-million dollar business.
Catalina and their daughter Claudia have moved to Kuala Lumpur, where Kong now lives. “It was tough trying to convince investors to believe in my pain,” he says. “But my belief, coupled with loads of tenacity, was all that I needed to keep going.”

Coffee fights Cancer?

Everyday all tell us something nice for us. But, here’s good news for cappuccino addicts. Coffee may actually be good for you. A study at the National cancer Centre in Tokyo found that subjects who drank coffee daily had about half the risk of a particular type of liver cancer as those who did not.
In another study in Boston, the researchers found no connection between caffeinated coffee or tea and colon or rectal cancer. They did find that those drinking two or more cups of decaffeinated coffee a day had a reduced risk of rectal cancer – though this may just be because decaf drinkers tend to have healthier lifestyle.

Amazing news I today came to know that not only thrill me but astonished me. The man and reptile have learnt to coexist peacefully in four villages Musharu, Polshoria, Chhoto Poshla and Boro Poshla of Burdwan district of West Bengal. Children learn about cobras before they even walk. There are snakes everywhere – one for every two residents is the estimate. No one knows the exact number. They are worshipped as an incarnation of goddess Jhankeswari, hence the name jhaenglai. The snakes and people have lived together for hundreds of years.
The villagers won’t touch the snakes. Villagers are extremely protective about the reptiles and do not allow outsiders – even if they are experts – to touch the snakes. According to them the snakes are amazing. They may feed on chicks and ducklings but never harm cattle. The cows and calves stamping on them with their hooves. But they don’t strike back. According to the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), there would have been many more incidents of snakebite. Strangely, villagers are convinced that snakebite can be treated at the temple. Victims are brought to the temple and made to bathe in the pond. They listen to mantras, fast for a day and are not allowed to sleep. In a few days, they are cured.
Many herpetologists and biologists have visited these Burdwan villages to unravel the mystery behind this strange coexistence. No one, though, has succeeded. Researchers can’t do much because villagers won’t let even a single snake be transported out. A team from ZSI visited the villages, confirmed that the snakes were cobras and milked them to test the potency of their venom. These snakes enter kitchens and climb shelves while the women cook. The snakes do not feel threatened and people have got used to them. It’s truly remarkable.
The argument tour around the construction of a Romanesque cathedral in Kingsbridge (although exists a real locality with that name, situated in the southwest of England, near Plymouth and Torbay, in the region of Devon, nothing has to do with that of the novel, that is fictitious), that subsequently introduces the new Gothic style assimilating the finds of the Church of Saint-Denis (next to Paris), and to its Around it amuses several histories and personages that go grasping the focus of the attention. It begins with an ahorcamiento and a curse, and jumps some years to count the vicissitude of the family of Tom, construction whose dream is to create a cathedral, but that should fight against the poverty, the lack of work and money, and the political problems that burst in its existence. On the other hand, the monk Philip, that achieves the charge of Prior of Kingsbridge, revolutionizing the priory and the population that of him depends with its improvements and its extreme kindness and faith in God. In spite of being a dark epoch for the female sex, Ken Follett introduces its look of the 20th century, with portraits of audacious, enterprising, independent women and cultivated, with social importance and respected by the men, characteristics that would be able to be considered anachronisms or at least improbable. Thus, it Alienates, the daughter of a count, falls in misfortune when its father is captured after a robbery to its castle, but he imposes on itself the men that are interposed in its road, in the same way that Ellen fight by the justice and defends its criterion before the catholic church or its own husband. Their lives and those of their children, castles and princesses, loves, revenges, injustices, and roundtrip passions have entertained and captivated to thousands of readers bewitched by a romantic and epic story.

Wonder!

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; Do you recheck locks ten times over? Do you line up your pens and know exactly when someone’s messed with them? You have all the classic symptoms of OCD. know more...

What’s that one thing that comes to your mind when we say David Beckham? Soccer, right? After all, very few people can bend it like Beckham. But, it’s not just football that he’s obsessed with. The man allegedly can’t do without counting the cans of cola in his fridge and he has to make sure that bottles are in even numbers. He even has to place the magazines in straight lines! Then there’s the case of Cameron Diaz who opens doors with her elbows to avoid germs! Well, if you think these are just celeb quirks, think again. ‘Cos such obsessions are called obsessive compulsive disorders or OCDs. Just look around and perhaps at yourself too for variations.
There are several factors that can give way to OCDs – from biological and genetic to psychosocial ones. The lack of a neuro - chemical called serotonin in the brain is the biological cause for OCD while past history of the condition in the family is the genetic factor. Research has proved that children of a person with OCD have a greater chance of developing OCD than someone with no family history of the disorder. The way out? Medication as well as cognitive behavior therapy – a technique that is based around helping you understand, manage and change your thoughts and actions.
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 256px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_dhLIbWCVMIE/SQJsjvggdlI/AAAAAAAAAsA/yYFQ5wQF_S8/s320/obsessive-compulsive-disorder-10.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5260886676026193490" />It becomes vital to understand the difference between OCD and obsessive – compulsive personality disorder (OCPD). “You might have obsessive thoughts or you might end up acting compulsive at times but that doesn’t make an OCD. There are many who suffer from mild obsessions but that doesn’t stop them from leading normal and healthy lives. The study carried out by psychologists at the Ohio state of university was reported in the journal Heart & Lung.
The study included 33 men and women in the final weeks of a cardiac rehabilitation program. Most participants had undergone bypass surgery, angioplasty or cardiac catheterization. The researches asked participants to complete a verbal fluency test before and after two separate sessions of exercising on a treadmill. The workouts were scheduled a week apart and lasted about 30 minutes. Participants listened to classical music during one of the sessions.
The researchers tested each person’s verbal fluency before and after each exercise session by asking participants to generate lists of words in specific categories. This kind of task challenges the part of the brain that handles planning and abstract thought as well as a person’s capacity for organized verbal processing.
Participants reported felling better emotionally and mentally after working out regardless of whether or not they listened to music. But the improvement in verbal fluency test performance after listening to music was more than double that of the non-music condition.read summary...

Rare Photos

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_dhLIbWCVMIE/SPer5N3rOQI/AAAAAAAAArc/961GS7k9ugo/s320/jAviones_2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257860089442416898" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_dhLIbWCVMIE/SPeryw1iOoI/AAAAAAAAArU/z91Mp9fSFVI/s320/jAviones_1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257859978569595522" />

Blogroll

The monkey was dubbed Rungwecebus kipunji for home range of Mt. Rungwe in Tanzania.

Scientists first described the Kipunji in 2005 and noted that it differed in appearance and behavior from other known species of monkeys. They first classified it in the genus Lophocebus, which includes three other species of monkey called Mangabeys. However, that classification was based only on field observations and photographs.
In August 2005, a farmer found a monkey matching the description of the Kipunji dead in a trap and turned the carcass over to the Wildlife Conservation Society in Tanzenia and the Field museum of Natural History in Chicago. The Field Museum sent the muscle tissue samples for genetic analysis. Genetic evidence showed that the kipunji is more closely related to Baboon in the genus Papio than to members of the genus Lophocebus.

However, both field observations and analysis of the animal’s physical characteristics revealed multiple differences between the Kipunji and Baboons. It could not be classified in either the genus Papio or Lophocebus, hence the birth of the new genus Rungwecebus.read summary...

The tigress in water

CLICK

Microwave Oven & Percy Spencer

In the history of human scientific progress chance discoveries have played a major role. But the chance finds have always succeeded in hogging the limelight only when followed by careful and systematic scientific analysis.read more...

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_dhLIbWCVMIE/SOuPSCZLXQI/AAAAAAAAAp8/2UCNXpQKm7U/s320/Percy+Spencer.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5254450930300706050" />
Microwaves are an essential household item. But only a handful of us know the story behind its development. In 1946, Percy Spencer, an engineer and inventor, who held more than 120 patents, was conducting radar related research. While testing a new type of vacuum tube – the magnetron – he noticed that a chocolate bar he had been carrying in his pocket had melted. Intrigued, Spencer began conducting more experiments. He watched popcorn “pop” and bounces around the room when he held a bag of uncooked kernels up to the tube. Next, Spencer observed a raw egg placed next to the magnetron explode from the pressure that had built up inside.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_dhLIbWCVMIE/SOuPmoJ0l3I/AAAAAAAAAqE/GiFBGLp9efo/s320/MicrowaveOven.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5254451284034230130" />
Spencer concluded that each of the items had “cooked” when exposed to low-density microwave energy emitted by the magnetron. Raytheon engineers’ quickly adapted his discovery, and the first commercial microwave oven, the “Radarange”, began its move into household kitchens the following year.read summary...

A Sure Place

"Children can learn many things on the internet.
