Endless Thrills at Universal Studios Singapore

At long last, after more than a year and a half, we finally have ourselves thrilled to the most popular theme park here in Singapore, The Universal Studios. It was so far the best among the theme parks (Disneyland/Ocean Park at Hong Kong, Star City at Manila, & the Genting Theme Park at Malaysia) I’ve been to and I couldn't contain the bliss and excitement for having the chance to experience all of these in my entire existence.

It was only at the 11^th hour last Friday when my colleague had mentioned about the 4 remaining admission tickets for USS that he’s peddling for only $40. Without having second thoughts and since it’s more way cheaper than the normal admission ticket which costs around $74 for One Day Peak Pass or $64 for One Day Non-peak Pass and the Two Day Pass at $118 for Adults, then we decided to take the 4 tickets at it’s already a good bargain.

The park is open daily from 10AM to 9PM so we all agreed to go with much enthusiasm on a fine Sunday morning notwithstanding the thought of having work on a busy Monday as we all know we will all be exhausted enjoying all the rides thereafter.

I could say the 2 highlights on that day were riding the TRANSFORMERS Ultimate 3D Battle. It was super thrilling and exhilarating to the nth level! I was like I’m in the battlefield with the evil robots. I wouldn't mind taking this ride again and again. And lastly, the ever petrifying Battlestar Galactica: CYCLON where indeed we screamed our lungs out as you will be accelerated 360 degrees, upside down, twist and turns and there's this floating feeling every time we go through a huge plummet. So you could imagine yourself dropping 14 storeys down faster than an average free fall speed. Whew! It was really scary but fun!

The photos above can best depict how we really had fun wandering around the huge whimsical park & trying all the fun bloody rides. It definitely brought the kids in us! :)

Losing someone very closed to your heart is one of the hardest things we can go through, so much more if it is the pillar of the family. No words can express what I am feeling for the past 3 months and surely only time can help me, my mum , my siblings and those people very close to him to accept that harsh reality.

Yes, for those unbearable months, our lives were in total distress and melancholic as our ever dearest mentor, a good provider, friend, role model, disciplinarian, the only man who raised me and my 3 other siblings for the more than 30 years, our compassionate father, have left this world for a better place. But his words of wisdom, his selfless love to my mum & to us his children as well his siblings, all that he taught us will never leave and will always be tattooed in our hearts forever.

As I went down on my memory lane, I cannot help but cry reminiscing those times when we still had our dad. He is a clever, witty, strong-willed and a God-fearing person. He never ran out of words of encouragements to us whenever winning is really hard to achieve. He also used to crack jokes and always displays a good sense of humor and affection to everyone. Our “Papa Eddie”, as what we used to call him, was also one of those hard working dads I've ever known as he was able to manage to send us 4 in a University and obtained a degree despite of not having a fixed income but purely relied on his small biz and with my mum’s fixed salary as a Teacher . Well, he used to have a white collar job back on his late 30’s as Sales Supervisor and was considered one of the top caliber employees of Fortune Tobacco International Crop however; he decided to retire early and considered putting up his own empire.

Apparently, anyone can say he is a strict disciplinarian as his words were the law in our house. Indeed he was. I and my siblings along with my cousins used to fear him when we were still young even until we grew older and got hold of the immense realm of today. But we never thought he was already teaching us one of the most valuable lessons in life, standing up for what you believe in. Don’t let anybody tell you otherwise. Under his tutelage, I slowly understood why he treated us like that. And I also discovered that he was a very compassionate and kind person despite of his stern personality. I learned that the most important thing that he had was us, his family. Though he may never have said it out loud I know that he was really proud of what we have become right now. We are who we are now because we had a father like him. And for that, our heartfelt thanks to you Pa.

Papa Eddie, your courageous battle (adenocarcinoma) and suffering has finally come to an end and now you’re gone home to our beloved heavenly father. We will always keep that good memories and tapestries in our hearts. We love you so much and we will surely miss you..

It was past 4PM when I finished laundrying! Then my BF fetched me around 5:00 and we headed downtown to dine at his favorite steakhouse ~ Hot Tomato . An hour and thirty later, we went to Bugis junction overspending half of my salary on those enthralling dresses and clothings which were indeed really tempting.. Lol! Kidding aside, I would never ever squander 50% of my salary just to buy those worldly things coz hey I need to save for the rainy season. *wink.

Anyway, just to give my self a li'l credit for the one month hardwork, I just bought 2 dresses which didn't cost me that much and 3 pairs of earrings, not bad right? I was also enticed to buy some trendy footwears & chic tote bags but just thought that I still have a few in the house but will just wait and see in the next few weeks how my budgeting skills would go because as hearsay, don't save after spending, but spend after saving. Finally, we ended the night watching the Rise of the guardians which I can say it brings out the child in me. Hope you can watch it too. :)

Look what I've found after hours of rummaging my old stuffs, an optical car mouse!! Cool gadget isn't it? My friend Ann who’s currently working in Singapore's No.1 Automobile Portal gave me & my twin-sister one of this very nice device last month. Her very first piano investment

My former colleague and a very good friend Lani, will be soon having a wedlock this coming December. Good for her that she has finally found her knight in shining armor and will be starting a new family of her own. I remember so well, this lady is also very inclined to music even on her younger years (like I do) as she had won several music competitions at school. Though I didn't join any singing competitions as I never had the guts yet to showcase my voice alone in the limelight and in front of many people but a least we have something in common i.e. singing.

Anyway, she also mentioned that not only singing that she’s good at but also playing musical instruments such as piano and guitar. When she started working, what she really wished to buy on her first pay was a new grand piano. Like wow! For such a newbie in the industry like her, she would definitely spend her first salary just to fulfill her wish.

So, as a buddy, I told her to canvass first and look for some piano stores over the web. On a normal weekend basis, I used to stay in my little crib, reading interesting facts, watching movies that I have downloaded, hibernating, hearing mass, calling my loved ones back in the Philippines, checking any friend updates on Facebook and sometimes going out for a walk together with my BF. But for these entire 2 day rests, I just decided to get out of the normal track which is to check on my blogs and did a li'l template revamp. Yes, finally I got the time to pick a new template as my old template looks pretty boring already. However I just used my friend's sample layouts to get this finished product.

In all honesty, I only had a few ideas on html editing as 5 years ago, I just purely relied on my friend's expertise..And yes, he is a computer savvy, an Internet geek who's really good into softwares and hardwares despite of not taking a formal course on these areas. He's just really diligent on reading IT stuffs over the world wide web and by applying this knowledge through hands on experience, it's really an x-factor that made his current business a successful and lucrative one.

Anyway, going back, since I just manually edited and copied the template, I still couldn't figure out how to remove the header image which is currently reflecting as dummy. I need a lil help from my friend but seems he's out reach for the past 2 days already. Hopefully tonight I can contact him and help me out on this. Liao!

Last week was our monthsary and it wouldn’t be that complete without our favorite activity which is pigging out at some pricy resto here in Singapore! I’ve managed to take some snapshots of the mouthwatering meals we devoured on that day. Anyway, monthsary is quite identical to an anniversary, but it is celebrated in terms of months, as opposed to anniversaries which are celebrated in terms of years. The only difference is that there are only 11 monthsaries for a certain event; the 12th would already be an anniversary.

On that same day, he never failed to surprise me, when he gave me this wristlet & a tote bag from one of the leading American designer and maker of luxury lifestyle handbags and accessories. Wee! Though, I didn't receive any flowers on that special day which I've expected he’d give me one nonetheless still celebrating it once a month is worth remembering. Holiday scenic exercise

Since it's holiday today, we just thought of taking a quick tour and sort of a walking exercise at Mount Faber. Mount Faber is just hillock that has a view of the city and Sentosa, only because it's slightly higher than the rest of the city. Though it's a bit tiring as you need to take the stairs (starting fromTelok Blangah hill park) or walk along the forest trail before reaching the breath-taking view, but it's all worth it. Actually, we did not cover and tour around the entire Mount Faber as the rain has started to pour down after an hour. So we just decided to go back to where we started. Here are a few snapshots of the place. :)

Passion for Music

Ever since I was child, I always dreamed of becoming a singing star or part of a church or community choir as I really have this passion for music specifically singing. Whenever I hear a familiar song, I couldn't stop but listen to its rhythm and trying to jive its rhythmic pattern, chant with its lyrics and feel its deep meaning and that is how my soul really feels alive. My music hunger was indeed ignited, when I reached my 3^rd year of college and joined a chapel choir at school. I was really elated then when I became part of a choir, singing songs of praise to the Lord. A part of those vocal lessons, singing hymns and reading musical notes, we also had this piano tutelage. Though it was really not my aspiration to become a pianist but by just simply listening and seeing how they play, it truly fueled up my desire to learn more about music.

As I strolled down my memory lane, I recalled these musings when I stumbled upon this piano master Craig Sheppard at youtube.com and was totally mesmerized how he plays and teaches piano in his class. According to his website, he is a Professor of Piano, joined the faculty of the School of Music of the University of Washington in 1993 after living twenty years in London. He also had wound up several concert series, gave solo recitals and master classes throughout the US, Europe and Asia. Well, I was able to manage to trace the details of the Sacramento Concert events and Professor Craig Shepard's sheer talent and music performance on that event was truly amazing! I truly admire his music passion in piano and I am also looking forward to achieve that same goal in future, the passion of singing.

Anyway, Sacramento Concert events include astounding live music performances by international and amateur pianists in the music industry and there are also student recitals for the whole family and friends to enjoy. Indeed a perfect and great place to relax for the whole family and friends during summer. If you happen to visit Davao, don't miss to visit this place and be prepared to be amazed. :)

Time flies so fast and I didn’t almost notice that this blog has already turned five years. Hurray!

I was a indeed startled and of course elated when I found out that my blog’s page rank is now at PR3. That means, more views, increase in traffic and best of all, more opportunies and paid reviews to hit. Lol!

I remember last time in 2010, when I also reached this rank, I was expecting that my blog’s limelight will last for about a month but to my dismay, Google has run the page rankings again and boom! My first ever PR3 vanished in a thin air. :( So sad that the excitement only lasted a week or two and I was already apathetic to continue my routines in blogosphere.

Anyway, I just cannot contain the excitement right now for getting this PR and hopefully I will maintain it for at least a month or more. :)

New research has revealed that employee frustration is the 'silent killer' of workplace productivity, and industry consultants have said tackling the issue will be the key battleground in the war on talent.

According to the new release published by Hay Group, The Enemy of Engagement, a lack of employee enablement is the leading cause in workplace frustration, yet it is rarely addressed or even recognised by organisations.

According to Hay Group, some 15% of the workforce are frustrated with arbitrary processes and lack of leadership, and Steven Ewin, head of Insight Pacific, said frustration has significant impacts on employee performance, retention, customer satisfaction and revenue growth.

Ewin commented, "Frustration wears down motivated, dedicated employees who really care about their jobs but can't get the organisational support they need to get things done. Managers must address issues such as internal barriers or the lack of resources, or risk losing top talent who care deeply about the organisation."

Co-author of the book, Tom Agnew, said frustration isn't an 'employee' issue but an organisational issue. "Managers must listen for clues and serve as the voice for frustrated employees," he said.

The results of proactive leadership can have profound results on the bottom line. The Hay Group research found that companies which ranked in the top quartile on both engagement and enablement achieved revenue growth four and a half times greater than companies in the bottom quartile.

In addition, companies that both engage and enable employees demonstrate a total reduction in voluntary turnover of 54%.

The New Year is a crucial time of the year for staff retention, as many Australian professionals take stock of their work life and consider their career direction and options.

The most recent Michael Page Employment Index showed that one in five employers identified talent retention/attraction as a key concern in the New Year period.

Agnew said the main drivers of frustration include:

Resource constraints: One-third of employees report that they do not have the resources and information they need to do their jobs well. More than half of employees express concerns about inadequate staffing levels in their work areas.

Unclear authority: Thirty per cent of employees indicate that they do not have enough authority to carry out their jobs effectively, and more than 40% feel that the potential for adverse consequences discourages them from taking actions or making decisions.
