The United States’ only museum focused on the health of our nation’s children is located right here in Tempe.  Nine fun-filled, interactive exhibits teach 25,000 Arizona children annually about the dangers of smoking, proper food portioning, and more.  Best of all, museum tours are completely free thanks to selfless donors who are concerned about the alarming rise of obesity in America’s children.

Catywampus worked with the American Heart Association, Gartner Design Company, and Glyphics Design to create the Marketplace game that teaches kids about daily fat allowances, which encourages them to choose from over 100 food items and scan them at a real, working cash register.  Additionally, we built a four-panel video wall honoring the Museum’s donors and are strategizing a web site that extends the Museum to the entire country.

Phoenix, Arizona’s Musical Instrument Museum is home to over 10,000 unique instruments from every country in the world, spread across two floors of captivating exhibit spaces.  Sure, you could attempt to see them all in one day, but that would require a lot of skimming.  And probably a lot of caffeine.

Catywampus’ Passport to the World of Music concept was designed to tackle that issue head-on: by providing an interactive version of key museum exhibits, patrons could extend their visits beyond the museum’s operating hours by featuring instrument details, essential recordings, influential musicians, and details of the exhibits themselves, all available through any web browser or tablet device.  Additionally, the tool gives the Museum another avenue to promote upcoming shows and unique retail items available in the Museum Store.

Plush is a Scottsdale, Arizona-based “high-end” salon without all the snooty nonsense that usually gets associated with that particular adjective.  Formed in 2008 with a distinct low-key family vibe, the salon worked with Catywampus to create a brand that was approachable and soft, yet modern.

Catywampus worked with Phoenix, Arizona’s RIESTER Agency and the Arizona Department of Health Services on the redesign of  the Department’s flagship anti-smoking campaign for 13-17-year-olds.  Using modern web development tools and techniques, we produced an interactive world where kids can travel through a body overcome by Addiction, get Addiction’s horoscopes, watch videos, play games, get mobile alerts, and more.

Catywampus worked with NIKE and the Off Madison Ave. agency to create two unique campaigns:  Reuse A Shoe focused on NIKE’s efforts to recycle worn shoes and turn them into valuable materials (such as new playing fields) that benefitted troubled/neglected areas of the country.  Similarly, the Let Me Play campaign allowed teens to build online videos and other “mash-ups” in order to win points for their schools and towns that could be redeemed for equipment and other beneficial upgrades.

When the Downtown Phoenix Partnership retired the Copper Square moniker in late 2008, they saw it as an opportunity to take some bold steps online. So did Catywampus’ founder, Doug Cholewa, who’s previous interactive firm designed and built the original CopperSquare.com site in 2005.

“The Partnership has always been keenly aware that Downtown is about community, not buildings,” said Doug. “Given the social and mobile trends in recent years – blogging, text messaging, Facebook & Twitter to name a few – engaging the community via technology was the natural choice.” DowntownPhoenix.com didn’t need to reinvent the wheel; it just needed some new rims. “We took the best elements from CopperSquare.com and expanded on them,” says Jim Flynn, the Partnership’s Director of Marketing.

Catywampus worked with Gordon/Galloway  and the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts to usher in the inaugural Scottsdale Latin Jazz Festival in November, 2009.  Headlined by Grammy Award-winner Arturo Sandoval, this three-day festival featured continuous live music, Latin-inspired art and cuisine, dance classes and more.

As one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, Gilead leads the charge in developing drugs for HIV patients.  And while a lot has changed since HIV first came into prominence in the early 1980s, there’s still a way to go.

Catywampus worked with Phoenix, Arizona’s RIESTER agency to design inviting, usable, and modern interfaces for Gilead’s online HIV resources.  Interactive tools allow users to explore content related to protection, testing, and treatment; industry specialists are also treated to a wealth of knowledge including research, partnerships, and more.
