Everyone has done it, even me back in the day. An inch or two of fresh snow has fallen and its the perfect time to go out and take a few photographs. I go out, relying on my trusty meter to give me good exposures. I then get back, so excited with what I had captured only to find out everything is at least 2 stops underexposed. Oh No! Find out how to fix it in the video. Enjoy!

Bracketing is one more tool that you can pull out of your photographer's toolbox to save or improve your photographs. You probably won't use it every day, nor do you want to use it in every scene. In my video I show you an example as well as a few photos that I created using bracketing

Understanding your exposure modes gives you a big advantage & can make or break a photograph. Visualizing the image before exposure then looking at all parts of the image (background, foreground, subject) to make sure you only have good stuff in the frame brings your images to the next level.

As I get older I definitely want things to weigh less and this new 3 Legged Thing tripod fits that bill perfectly. Its plenty tall, plenty short, plenty light & plenty sturdy. You can pick one up from the 3 Legged Thing website. Check out the video!

Update: Jack tripod holds 17 pounds...plenty for a pro body & 300 2.8.

Previsualization or visualization is the ability to see the photograph in your mind's eye before you take it. You need to know what you want to create before you pick your location, subject, equipment & exposure. After time and plenty of studying you will start with the ability to see light and images in your head without working at it. Once you can do it your photograph will be taken to a whole new level.

Why You Need Perfect Exposure in Digital Photography

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZ0mWlEJYmI

Underexposure is THE ENEMY of digital photographs! In this video I show you how underexposure can ruin a photo, losing color & adding tons of noise to a photograph. When you underexpose you dramatically lower the dynamic range of the captured image. Your camera might have 10 or 12 stops of dynamic range (which you paid a lot of money for) but if you don't expose properly you are wasting those capabilities.

I've noticed over the years many people are afraid of high ISO. I show you how exposing properly with high ISO can produce better results, check out the video!

Expose for the Highlights, Print for the Shadows - Photography Quick Tip #8

You should be setting your camera's exposure with the highlights in mind. Be careful not to overexpose important parts of the image by using the histogram. Exposing this way will give you the maximum amount of data to create better & more colorful images.

Next step is editing your photo. Its easy to adjust your shadows in Lightroom to have a full tonal range. Check out the video!

You should also check out my video Why You Need Perfect Exposure in Digital Photography that shows you what the effect of underexposure can do to an image.
