Cbazaar Style Bash, the grand fashion event, is just around the corner. While we are set to go all gaga over the grand fashion event on May 26th & 27th, we have a two equally grand reasons to celebrate.

One, our Facebook page has just crossed 25k fans, and is still continuing to rise even when you are reading this. We extend our sincere thanks to all the fashion enthusiasts spread across the globe, especially the patrons who have immense faith in Cbazaar. We share a special rapport with our customers and this is a result of more than a decade’s establishment and association with Indian Fashion. In a subtle manner, we would also like to thank one Mr. Zuckerberg , for enabling the social media platform, a channel through which fans and followers stay updated.

Two, we have finally revealed a major aspect of the Cbazaar Style Bash – The Bollywood Goddess Tutorial. Yes, you read that right! We have organized a tutorial on how to dress up like your favorite Bollywood Star. Bollywood has always been an influential factor in determining Indian fashion. As a matter of fact, many iconic fashion designers have quoted Bollywood as a prime inspiration for their works. At the much-awaited event, customers and patrons can learn how to dress up like a Bollywood star. We believe this tutorial will benefit and change the way Indian fashion is perceived. Enough said!

Without much ado, more surprises and excitement awaits you at the Cbazaar Style Bash. Stay Updated, Experience the Fashion.

No fashion invasion by the West is ever going to replace the Saree in an Indian woman’s trousseau. While the traditional way of draping a saree is well known, different parts of India have inspired their own indigenous styles. Here are a few for you to experiment with:

The Maharashtrian 9-yard-saree

It’s longer than the usual saree, so that you can take a part of it and draw it up between your legs and tuck it behind, at the waist. This saree is unrestrictive because the bottom is like a dhoti, and it’s great if you want more freedom of movement. Another part of the saree goes onto your shoulder, as the pallu. Use a traditional Maharashtrian nose ring and green glass bangles to complete the outfit.

The Gujarati saree

http://bit.ly/KAQ766

With this saree, you tuck the pleats in such a way that they open to the right. Then you drape the pallu around you in such a way that it goes around your back and is brought over your right shoulder. After that, you spread the pallu across your chest and tuck the left edge into your petticoat. And voila – you are a now a Gujarati girl.

The Bengali Saree

You’ll be familiar with this way of draping if you’ve seen Rani Mukerji in Yuva. In West Bengal, the saree is worn without pleats. You drape it across your waist, bring it back to the right side, throw the pallu over your left shoulder, then bring it back from the right side and put it on your right shoulder. Bengali housewives usually attach a key ring to the end of their pallus.

The Coorgi Saree

The Coorgi Saree is very popular in Karnataka, and it differs from a regular saree in the sense that the pleats are at the rear end and not in the front. Hold the plain end and tuck it into the petticoat, drape it anti-clockwise once, make about 6-7 pleats and tuck them in the back, and place the pallu gently over your shoulder.

The Tamilian Saree

A saree worn in the Tamilian style is pleated along the left leg and then draped once around your waist. The pallu goes over the right shoulder, after which you drape the remaining material around your waist, once again. Accessorize this version of the saree with gold jewellery.

The Georgette fabric is a textile traditionally made from silk that’s sometimes combined with synthetic fibers such as polyester. The crinkly crepe-light texture gives the Georgette its distinctive look, making the fabric create an aura of being flowing and lengthy. Many fabric stores stock the Georgette fabric in a range of colors and prints for various projects. Department stores also carry clothing and drapery made from Georgette.

http://bit.ly/KBLeuv

The threads used in the Georgette are highly twisted, causing them to crinkle as they unwind. The weave of Georgette tends are tight, but they appear sheer since the threads are very thin. Unlike some fine silks, Georgette is strong, and it holds up well to varied wear. Since silk is highly absorbent, Georgette can easily be dyed in a myriad of colors or printed with a pattern.

http://bit.ly/IWhbKB

The crepe-like texture of Georgette drapes very well, making it a popular choice for women’s fashions in which clingy, flowing fabrics are favored. Since Georgette is thin, it is also lightweight and can be used as a layer on a larger outfit without making it heavy or bulky. Layers of Georgette may be used for a fancy effect, especially in gowns. When draped, Georgette enhances the woman’s curves, bringing out her elegance and grace.

http://bit.ly/JaO99E

The Indian designed Georgette saree is apt for any traditional occasion. Satya Paul is the pioneer of Georgette sarees which are often showcased at the India Fashion Week. Neeta Lulla made Georgette sarees predominant in the movie ‘Chandni’, where the protagonist wore sarees that were teamed with flattering blouses that had intricate embroidery and bead work.

Tarun Tahiliani and Suneet Verma too have reinvented the beauty of the Georgette saree in their innovative creations by ripping the pallu into two and draping it over embroidered petticoats and cholis.

The intrepid sun has decided to beat down on us mortals yet again, and it is so hot, we’re almost too scared to step outside. The only good thing about the weather is the summer fashion, that helps you keep cool as well as be fashionable. Here are a few prints and colours that you can incorporate in your ethnic wear for a hip and happening summer!

White
The Captain Obvious of summer colours, white is your skin’s best friend and one of the colours of the season. Just ask Rohit Bal, who used a lot of ivory to design his “Shanti” collection, or Sonakshi Sinha, who loves the colour. Pair that with cotton, and you can do no wrong. A white chikan kurta or a breezy white salwar kameez might just have what it takes to punch summer in the face. Don’t forget that sunscreen!

http://bit.ly/IdtxNs

Powder Blue
Ever since Caeser Flickerman wore it on The Hunger Games, powder blue has taken the fashion world by storm. Embrace the colour in your wardrobe, especially if you’re light-skinned, as it will bring out your rosy cheeks. You can also use it to simply accessorize the white. If powder blue is a touch too dark for you, you can always select pale, pastel blue shades.

Pastel Shades
This summer, even though tangerine still rules the roost, the lighter you go, the better. And if white is too boring a hue for your personality, you can dress it up with pale pinks, lime greens and butter yellows. All three colours can adapt to different skin tones and are summer-friendly – they trap less heat as compared to dark colours. Be sure to use light fabrics.

http://bit.ly/IguZjG

Floral and nature-inspired prints
Summer often brings in nature-inspired prints and motifs, making floral, leaf, boughs of flowers and quirky animals like owls, an oft repeated sight. There’s no reason why these prints can’t easily carry forward to ethnic wear. Look for beautiful floral prints in light colours, or nature-inspired contrasting prints on chiffon, and you’ll have the summer’s hottest look down pat!

http://bit.ly/IJwJQV

A bridal trousseau is what the bride takes to her new home with her after the marriage. Tradition demands that she take all new clothing, as well as anything that she might need, at least in the initial days of her new marriage. Some brides plan as many as 101 new outfits to carry with them – how many do you have in mind? Here’s a list of all the items that make an ideal bridal trousseau:

Jewellery: While traditionally, it’s the gold jewellery that occupies prime space in a bride’s wedding trousseau, these days the honour is shared by diamond, platinum and white gold. One of the main reasons (apart from its aesthetic appeal, of course) the bride is laden with jewellery on her wedding day is so that her trousseau appears full.

http://bit.ly/s9X9It

Sarees: An Indian bride’s trousseau is incomplete without sarees! Heavy, rich, zardozi, kanjeevaram, paithani sarees that represent the bride’s region and her personality are trousseau’s pride and joy. For checking out the varied range of sarees, click here - http://bit.ly/vlZoBR

Salwar Kameez: The other traditional form of Indian dressing also has its importance amongst a bride’s trousseau – especially in the North. Designer pallus and dainty Anarkalis are the latest rage to hit fashionable brides.

 http://bit.ly/IGtUzd

Shoes: What’s a wedding without glittering, shy-high heels and bejewelled sandals? Some brides have a separate bag full of shoes.
Handbags/Clutch : Handbags are a must for brides, as that’s where they’ll store their quick fixes – touchup, tissues, a lpack of glucose biscuits, a keepsake.

 http://bit.ly/JfZ9Ru

Cosmetics: Lipsticks, eye-liners, mascaras, eye shadows – the works. Everything you need to keep yourself looking beautiful.

Linen: As the bride is moving out of her parents’ home and setting up her own, she needs some fresh linen to accompany her. Bedsheets, spreads, throws, pillow cases in lace, satin, sude.

A bride may also choose to include items like lingerie, toiletries etc. in her trousseau as well. Lingerie is especially important, to make her wedding night extra special. All this and more, for the bride it’s like taking a step into the new journey of life and Cbazaar as a brand is always around to help the special woman, commence this journey with ease and style.

Like any other fashion staple, the Salwar Kameez has undergone many transformations through the years – although, as we’ll soon show you, fashion is cyclical. What goes around, comes around!

The 1960s

One of the biggest blockbusters of the 1960s was Mughal-e-Azam, where the stunning Madhubala played a courtesan in King Akbar’s court who falls in love with his son, Salim. The epic love story was made even more timeless by Anarkali’s costumes – salwar kameezes that had a high waist and a full, flowing skirt, named after the classic beauty who wore them – Anarkali. Movies like Kohinoor ensured that the dress stayed in the people’s memories.

The 1970s

The bell-bottoms had invaded all fashion in the ‘70s, as had big floral and tie n’ dye prints. The hemlines of the kurtas got shorter and salwars were replaced by bell-bottom pants. Prints got bolder and dupattas became scarves tied around bouffants. The 70s salwar-kameez was arguably the most experimental of them all. For inspiration, watch Hema Malini or Zeenat Aman in their Johny Mera Naam and Heera Panna avatars.

The 1980s

The 80s saw the puffed sleeve stage a comeback – either as short sleeves or elbow-length ones. Patialas replaced bell bottoms and dupattas started being worn as stoles. For inspiration, keep an eye on Juhi Chawla in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak or Bhagyashree in Maine Pyaar Kiya.

The 1990s

The ‘90s went back to the traditional and gave it a makeover – on the one hand there was Madhuri Dixit in Dil To Pagal Hai rocking Manish Malhotra’s sheer, lacey pastel shades, and on the other hand, Kajol donned beautiful, simple monochrome pieces in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. The underlying theme everywhere was classic, elegant.

The 2000s

Kareena Kapoor took this decade by storm through movies like Kabhie Khushie Kabhi Gham, and as the years passed the fashion of the decade became more and more refined. Necklines plunged, fits became more feminine and through it all emerged the Anarkali, which came back and is still in vogue. Vidya Balan sports the Anarkali all through Paa and at many Red Carpet events.

She adorns it with pride and looks magnificently rich. Vidya Balan has been an epitome of an Indian woman.

For all those, who wish to reflect the same aura of magnetism, Cbazaar has a unique collection of Anarkali suits stylized in vibrant shades. Click here.

The half-saree is an emerging fad across the glamour circles of India, with everyone from celebrities to the regular junta opting to go for this easier variant of the traditional saree. Here’s a quick guide to the half-saree and everything you needed to know about it.

Inspired by the outfit worn by young girls between puberty and marriage in the southern regions of India, the half-saree is a cross between the “ghagra choli” and a saree. In the South, it is also known as a Langa Voni, a Langa Dhavani or a Pavada Dhavani. It has an ornate lehenga which can be tied at the waist, a matching choli or blouse, and a fine cloth usually 2.5 metres in length that is draped diagonally over the choli and tucked in at the waist, so that the overall effect is that of a saree, without dealing with the complexity of draping one.

You will see many South Indian actresses in movies sporting the half-saree, however, the past one year has seen a rise in the trend of a half-saree amongst others as well, especially among brides. For those facing the dilemma of picking between a lehenga and a saree for their special day, the half-saree is an excellent hybrid, and there are many designer variants available in the market.

From Fashion Weeks to celebrity weddings, the half-saree has made an appearance everywhere. At a fashion show by designer Ritu Kumar, Raima Sen walked down the ramp in a zardozi half-saree embellished with beads and sequins.

At Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza’s wedding, Dia Mirza sported a beautiful, multi-hued half-saree with a trendy hot-pink jamavar blouse.

So did designer Nishka Lulla, who helped design Genelia’s outfit with her mother, Neeta Lulla. And let’s not forget Genelia D’Souza herself, who looked resplendent in a red-and-gold lehenga-saree at her reception.

It looks like the half-saree is all set to win over many more Indian brides, and is definitely a trend to watch out for!

Your traditional wear enhances your personality and portrays how rooted you must be towards your tradition. Hence it becomes necessary to maintain it as well. Therefore, here are some tips that will help you keep your traditional wear durable and intact.

While maintaining clothes made of silk, it may be noted that a lot of meticulousness goes especially in its maintenance. Silk is a tricky material in that regard.

With proper care, sarees can be maintained for years. Soap must not be used for the first three consecutive washes, but the saree must be gently rinsed with cold water. For the subsequent washes, a mild detergent can be used. The pallu, border and body must be washed separately. Washing the saree with inferior quality material or bright colours must be avoided. You can use a protein shampoo which will feed the protein in silk. Chemicals damage the lifespan of silk. The silk saree must not be brushed or lashed which leads to tear. The saree must not be kept for long durations and must not be twisted or wringed.

Sarees must be then dried immediately. A dry towel should be used upon them to remove the excess moisture. They should then be hanged on a padded hanger and must be kept away from direct sunlight.

Dry-cleaning is the best way of care for silk and sarees in general.

While dealing with stains, cold water must be used immediately. Then, the stained area must be soaked with petrol and brushed with a soft cloth. Greasy stains can be removed by dabbing talcum powder. The stain remover must be applied and washed off with hot water. A dry-clean solvent must be used for food stains, then washed with mild detergent and cold water.

Stains like blood, deodorant, egg, meat juices and perspiration can be cleared with detergent. They should be soaked in cool water and laundered. If they persist, try rubbing a mixture of a few drops of Nh2 with hydrogen peroxide.

With these basic tips, sarees can be preserved for a long period of time.

Dressing up for the Indian summer can be a mean task if all the factors aren’t taken into consideration. Embracing the Indian summers is troublesome, as it tends to harm the skin in various, visible and invisible, ways. Dressing correctly in summer plays an important part in maintaining the skin.

Cotton clothes for summer are an apt choice. Since the level of humidity is at its peak during summer, synthetic, silk, and nylon garments must be strictly avoided. Keeping your attire lightweight is necessary, as heavy clothes cause excessive sweating, leading to dehydration.

When it comes to dressing up for a wedding or a traditional occasion, always opt for materials that are soft and light. For example, Bengalis prefer the traditional Bengali saree as it is lightweight and made of cotton.

Chanderi sarees too are an ideal option during summer. The fabric is hand-woven from the finest cotton that’s practically weightless. Their artistic borders generally have gold on them, and the exclusive ones have gold checks with butis (round shaped motifs) all over. Check out Kareena Kapoor sporting a Chanderi saree below.

The Dhakai Jamdani too can be worn at traditional occasions as it is made from superior quality cotton. It was originally woven as the legendary Dhakai Muslin, with beautiful and eye-catching patterns. Watch this model walk the ramp in a Dhakai Jamdani creation.

The traditional Keralite Kasavu saree is a great option for an ideal summer outfit at a traditional occasion too.

In India, clothing for men is by and large restricted to western wear, such as trousers, shirts, and formal suits. But when it comes to festivities, it is the ethnic pajama kurta or dhoti kurta which is still preferred. Men should ideally opt for kurta pyjama, but the options don’t stop there. Though western outfits have replaced the dhoti, it still remains a preferred outfit for Indian festivals and weddings.

It may be worn in cream or off-white shades, both in cotton and silk fabrics. But today, one can find designer dhotis in different colours and designs. Lungis too are considered to be very comfortable by men in regions where conditions make it impossible and uncomfortable for them to wear a trouser all the time.

These options and some appropriate skincare can enable you to enjoy a carefree and a laid back summer without any worries.
