For many of us its hard to read the Bible on a regular basis. Whether its unfamiliar, we can’t read all that well, or we are just tired of reading from homework. Yet this book is not like any other. It’s words are life!

Advent refers to the “coming” or “arrival” of Jesus. The world begins preparing for the tradition of Christmas earlier and earlier each year. But are we really preparing ourselves for the celebration of Jesus’ arrival? Or is it simply the arrival of a fun-filled magical time? Take this fun-filled magical time as a call to prepare for the “magic” of God coming to earth as a baby boy. Spend the four weeks of December preparing your heart with these weekly readings, songs, questions, and activities. You can use this Advent Devotional on your own, with a friend, or with your family!

Consider using this audio dramatization of The Christmas Story on your mp3 player as another way of preparing for Christmas.

Celebration Sunday

God has been doing some crazy stuff in our church, and Thanksgiving week is a great chance to celebrate together. Student Ministries will be having “brunch” together (parents welcome) at 9:00am in the HS Room, and then the whole church will be combining for one service from 10:00-11:30am.

Staff Meetings

Each month our staff meet for encouragement, training, and prayer. These are essential to any volunteers success as a member of our team. We post our meetings, locations, and any notes distributed so we can all do our best to be present and active in our meetings.

November 3 @ The Spivey’s, 6:00-9:30pm: We’ll be looking at the few weeks of ministry as we pray about Mike’s return.

November 23 @ The Pusateri’s, 12:45-2:30pm: We need to touch base on the next two months of events. Especially getting the PARENT LUNCH on our calendar and personally inviting the parents of the students in our small group. We also previewed the handout for our Dec. 1 meeting as we begin to develop a common process and language of discipleship to unify us as a team.

December 1 @ The Spivey’s, 6:00-9:30pm: We will pray for our students during the transition of leadership in Student Ministries and focus on the role and purpose of small groups in light of an overall process of discipleship, personal growth, and programs within Student Ministries (see handout).

January 5 @ The Paterson’s, 6:00-9:30pm: DON’T FORGET TO DO THE DEVOTIONAL ON BEING LEADERSHIP from last month (see link above). We will be praying for the upcoming Winter Retreat and Mexico Trips and review the role of staff on such trips so we can prayerfully decide which staff are going. We will also focus on the role and purpose of Sunday mornings in light of an overall process of discipleship, personal growth, and programs within Student Ministries (see handout).

February 2 @ The Sullivan’s, 6:00-9:30pm: We will spend 6:00-8:30pm praying about our summer themes and focusing on the role and purpose of H.A.B.I.T.S., Outbreak, and Relational Evangelism in light of an overall process of discipleship, personal growth, and programs within Student Ministries (see handout). 8:30-9:30pm will be for those going on the Winter Retreat (so the rest of you will be welcome to go home early!).

March 2, 6:00-9:00pm:

April 6, 6:00-9:00pm:

May 4, 6:00-9:00pm:

June 1, 6:00-9:00pm: Will be our end of the year celebration. We will feast, pray, laugh, cry, and share stories from a hard fought year of working with teenagers!

July 19 STAFF LUNCH, 12:45-2:30pm: A chance to touch base during the summer and look forward to a new year of ministry. We’ll review our programs and staff roles so everyone can pray specifically about how God may be leading them in 2009-2010. This is a great chance for people interested in Student Ministries to check out our team and how they can get involved.

August 19 & 26, SMALL GROUP TRAINING, 6:30-9:00pm: We’ll review the role, goals, and commitments of being a small group leader while giving you some specific insights on how to build relationships with students, pray in the power of the Spirit, and challenge students to grow spiritually as a small group leader.

August 23, SUNDAY STAFF TRAINING, 12:45-3:00pm: We’ll review the role, goals, and commitments of being a Sunday staff member while giving you some specific insights on how to build relationships with students, pray in the power of the Spirit, and challenge students to grow spiritually as a Sunday staff member.
