Join us in E100 Bible Reading Challenge

The New Year is just days away and many of you are thinking this is the year that you will read the entire Bible. We start with great gusto in Genesis 1:1 but within weeks get bogged down somewhere in Leviticus. So perhaps it is time for a fresh approach to reading God's Word.

This year we are challenging the church to join together and take the E100 Bible Reading Challenge.

What is the E100 Challenge?

The Essential 100 (E100) is a Bible Reading plan developed by Scripture Union that is comprised of 100 carefully selected passages that combine to give you a big picture view of the Bible. It's a reading plan that is designed to be approachable, achievable, and enjoyable.

At the end of April we will recognize everyone that has completed the E100 challenge and we want you to be part of that celebration. Even more so we want you to experience the life changing power of God's Word in your own life.

How to participate

Here's how you can stay on schedule and track your participation:

Pickup a E100 challenge progress card at the Welcome Booth in our gathering area.

Read the E100 verses through your smartphone with the free YouVersion Bible App.

Receive the E100 verses via email from YouVersion

Print the E100 planner PDF below

e100_planner.pdf
Download this file

The 2011 Challenge to give to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering

2011 Lottie Moon Christmas Offering®

Our 2011 theme is “His heart, His voice, His hands – I am Southern Baptist missions.” It reminds us that as followers of Jesus, we – the Church – are called to be the body of Christ. We are His heart, His hands and His voice in the midst of a world filled with unreached peoples. We are part of the task to fulfill the Great Commission. And although we Southern Baptists have been praying, giving and going for 160 years, the task is far from finished.

Just take a look-

Watch on Posterous

Fast facts about lostness

Here’s a global snapshot of the work ahead of us:

6,744 people groups are considered unreached (less than 2 percent profess a personal relationship with Jesus Christ; as reported April 2011)

3,789 people groups are not engaged at all with the Gospel (as reported April 2011)

More than half the world’s people live in cities. Most unreached people groups likely are represented in the world’s urban centers.

1.5 billion Muslims make up 22 percent of the world’s population

There is much work to be done. With more than 45,000 churches in the Southern Baptist Convention, the task is doable, but it will take all of us.

Will your gift make a difference?

Every penny given to Lottie Moon is used to help support about 5,000 Southern Baptist missionaries serving overseas. Last year, those missionaries reported 360,876 baptisms and 29,237 new churches!

This is truly kingdom building work.

To find out more about the Lotte Moon Christmas Offering and the lady whose name we honor with this offerning visit the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering at IMB.org

How can you impact 1500 people in 5 weeks?

Help support our Food Pantry through our Food Drive.

Did you know?

Oour Food Pantry sees nearly 20 new families a month come for assistance?

In October alone we broke an all time record by providing food to 1844 people

... and the need is increasing.

November and December are always months where we see an increase in people and in today's economy we expect to a larger need than we ever have before. This coupled with decreased donations from partner organizations means we have a real opportunity to stand in the gap this Holiday Season.

How you can Help

Donate Non-Perishable Food

We are hosting a Food drive through the end of this year. You can drop off Non-perishable food items at drop points located at both the gathering area and side entrances. We'll be happy to unload the food from your vehicle as well, just see one of our Deacons for helping hand.

Donate Money

If you'd prefer to give money we are having a special offering this Sunday Morning, Nov 20, following our morning worship service. Deacons will be posted at the exits with offering plates and all donations will go directly to the Food Pantry.

We get busy and forget to bring cans as well so this is a great way to help. Your financial gift allows us to buy food in bulk and stretch the money even further.

if you pour yourself out for the hungry
and satisfy the desire of the afflicted,
then shall your light rise in the darkness Isaiah 58:10

However you choose to get involved, we thank you, and ask you to pray that God will continue to direct our resources and time to serve those in need through our Food Pantry.

The impact of One

Remember two posts ago- "With One Little Bracelet?" Remember the mention of praying with the woman whose family was enduring economic hard times & that tears & hugs were exchanged? Well, we also told her about a local church whose pastor is one of our translators. Tonight we worshipped with her in this church. What an amazing blessing to see her & know her when she came in that church! How much more amazing will it be when we see her & know her in Heaven! It was truly a confirmation that what we have done here this week was indeed Divinely appointed. Many may ask, "Why go all that way? Can't you just witness here at home?" But God tells us to go to the ends of the earth to tell of His love. We came & have experienced first hand God at work, & He has blessed our efforts here. "If you think you're too small to make an impact, try going to bed with a mosquito in the room." I borrowed this from my cousin's Facebook status today. It relates to mission work in that sometimes it can seem to be a huge task, that a difference really can't be made. But, if that one lady getting saved & showing up at church tonight for the first time was the only fruit of our week's labor, it would is still worth every dollar and every minute spent getting here & doing His work.
Thank you Lord!
Thanks for your prayers this week!

Tuesday we infiltrated another market & another park with presentations using the bracelets & balloons. Balloons? Yes! One group who joined us from Tennessee has a lady who ties balloon figures/animals, & they are using the colors of the bracelet & different shapes/figures to present the gospel. It's quite amazing! The kids & adults here LOVE IT! Wednesday two groups presented with balloons & bracelets at a school while other groups went on foot into the fields & up the hills to present & do bible study in homes. What an honor to be allowed into the school & into their homes. Our group witnessed to a young man standing on a little path between farm plots next to a drainage ditch & with dogs resting at our feet, a pig snorting & rooting, & chickens scratching around. Amazing! We ended that day with a little shopping & gospel presentation at a small roadside market in a busy area. These are areas where the local Nationals are having church in their homes, leading Bible Studies, & trying to increase the knowledge of God in their communities. Pray for them.
Please also pray for our group's health, energy, & stamina. God has been so good to us. Also pray for receptive ears as we head into another school & market today. I tried to attach a video. I hope it works!
In Christ, The Rookie

With One Little Bracelet

Imagine yourself in a foreign country, in a large marketplace, & you don't know the language. You are armed with an interpreter & the supplies to make a salvation bracelet. Now imagine stepping into the market & approaching the first people you see. You ask them, "may we give you a free bracelet?" They smile & nod. Using the bracelet, you proceed to share the gospel & they pray to accept Jesus. Then with tears in her eyes the woman asks you to pray for her & her family who are in economic hard times. You pray for her. Tears are shared & hugs are exchanged. With one little bracelet you help make the difference between Heaven & Hell for a lost soul, & gain a brother or sister you'll share Heaven with someday.
This scenario repeated itself all day today in the market & in a park. The prayers for a field ready for harvest have been heard & answered. So many people today prayed & accepted Christ, & it was nothing short of AMAZING!
Prayers needed for continued health & energy in the group & for continued open minds & hearts of the people here.
In Christ,
The Rookie

Glimpses of the Early Church in Ecuador

Tonight our group had the privilege to worship in a small home church.

Close your eyes & imagine this: dirt floor, tarp roof flapping in the breeze, plastic chairs & some boards on cinderblocks for benches, one microphone & speaker, children playing, dogs barking, cars speeding down the street, & guess what? GOD WAS THERE.

Many of us commented that it might be what the early church was like. A group of believers, meeting at a home, excited to take in God's Word, to sing His praises, & to share in the Lord's Supper. There was no order of service. There was just people who love God & they took turns sharing & expressing their love for Him & His love for us.
One guy from our group gave his testimony, our magician gave a message, & we all led the group in song. An experience...reminiscent of the early church...tonight...that we will never forget.
Please continue to pray for us.
In Christ,
The Rookie

A word from our Ecuador Mission team from last night, Sat Oct 8:

Greetings!

Well, we are about to board the last flight & will be in Ecuador tonight. This being my first mission trip, there are so many emotions, & to share it with my daughter, well, is amazing! We hope to have many posts to share what's going on! Continue to pray for us-safety, health, & a field ready for harvest!

Our Lakota Mission Team visited the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota during the week of September 17 – 22, 2011. We delivered 120 Christmas presents and over 100 new winter coats for the children who attend the Lakota Baptist Church. We also held Vacation Bible School with approximately 50 children attending each night. In addition we conducted men and a women’s Bible study. We were blessed to see two Lakota women accept Christ during our mission trip.
We also made plumbing repairs to the church and painted the exterior window frames, church sign, and the doors.
Thanks to the church for their prayers and support. Enjoy the photos-
