Ninety-nine percent of all sexually active American women use birth contraceptives at some point in their lives. This should be a mundane fact, but unfortunately birth control has become a controversial issue in this political climate. Politicians are racing to the right to pass the most extreme anti-women and anti-health care bills across our country.

But we won't let them.

Grassroots Campaigns is hiring Assistant Directors to run campaigns on the front-lines to organize people across the country and fight to protect women's rights and other vital progressive issues by representing a variety of issue based organizations.

You will work to manage one of our campaign offices, to build community
support, educate the public and recruit new members for a leading non-profit partner organization.

In this position, you will take on a great deal of leadership and responsibility,
learning how to run a field campaign. You will need strong communication and motivational skills, work ethic and desire for political change. You must have the
leadership ability to oversee a team and an orientation towards handling substantial
responsibility.

Job responsibilities include:

Recruit a team of 10-40 canvassers to represent top issue-based organizations on the front lines of the
progressive movement. Responsible for developing and implementing a plan to hire talented staff.

Manage, train and develop staff into activists and leaders in a canvass office. Work with staff to develop
them into the next leaders of the progressive movement.

Canvass to raise funds and build support in the community. Lead staff by example and work on the front
lines for the most important issues facing our nation.

Requirements for Position:

Strong communication and motivational skills, work ethic, and desire for political change are essential. Candidates
must be able to work within a team, have proven leadership ability and an orientation towards handling a lot of
responsibility. Strong self-direction and the ability to take initiative are also necessary qualifications. Previous field
or canvassing experience is a plus, and may qualify candidates for additional leadership positions.

Reporting to the Finance Director/Controller, Responsibilities will Include:

• Assisting in supervision of bookkeeping and administrative staff responsible for payroll and accounts payable.

• Completion of monthly account reconciliations.

• Filing and Maintaining state registrations and good standing status, insurance coverage, workers compensation, risk management and other regulatory compliance.

At the Fund for the Public Interest, we've been organizing campaigns to protect the environment and stand up for the public interest for more than 25 years. We've helped protect our pristine wilderness areas with Environment America. With U.S. PIRG we've fought to make school lunches healthier and safer. While working on behalf of the Human Rights Campaign, we helped organize the grassroots opposition needed to repeal the discriminatory "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

The Fund has helped train more than 1,000 progressive activists with the skills they needed to work as leaders in environmental and social change organizations.

Work with us and gain valuable skills mobilizing and building citizen support, activating the media around critical issues and running petition drives for important campaigns.
