A poem for my Love…

I am a lucky man, did you know that? I really am. I am married to an awesome woman. She’s amazing. She also strongly dislikes Valentine’s day (which it is today). That’s not what makes her awesome – it’s just a symptom of her awesomeness.

Tonight we’re going to see one of the bands on my concert bucket list – Flogging Molly. That’s her idea of a good way to spend Valentine’s day – going to a Irish punk show with me. Why? Because it will make me happy.

Did I not say that I’m a lucky man?

So, even though it’s Valentine’s day and neither of us are fans, I just had to tell her how much I love her… so I pulled a page out of high school me’s playbook and wrote a poem (though I’m a much better writer these days then I was then, thank God).

IN LOVE ON A THURSDAY

I love you.

Not because it’s Valentine’s day.
even though it is
And not because you’re beautiful.
even though you are
And not because you love me back.
even though I know you do

I love you.

Because it’s Thursday.
and I happen to love you on Thursdays
I also love you on Fridays and on Mondays…
and on all those other days
But every day I seem to fall in love with you
all over again
and today is Thursday, so…

I love you, lady.
