Entering Jamaica

For U.S. citizens arriving in Jamaica valid passports are required.

Visitors must have a return ticket or onward ticket for entry into Jamaica.

Travel Authorization

Travel Authorization is required by the Government of Jamaica to persons intending to travel to the island. On arrival, approval for the Travel Authorization is issued after satisfactory completion of a health risk assessment.

How to apply:

Applications are available online. The Jamaican health regulations require that the Travel Authorization be issued a maximum of 72 hours before arrival in Jamaica. A response will be generated within 10 minutes of the submission of the application.

Print or save Travel Authorization.
Present the document to the airport with a valid passport for boarding.
The Travel Authorization is required to board a flight to Jamaica.

COVID-19 Updates for Jamaica (Subject to Change)

Effective July 10, 2020

Travelers from the following states are required to upload a negative Covid-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test conducted within 10 days of the arrival date to obtain a travel authorization:

New York
Florida
Arizona
Texas

What to Expect

Upon arrival, travelers are required to undergo a health screening and risk assessment.
This includes:
Checking the individual's temperature
Observation of symptoms
Interview by a health officer

Upon completion:

Observe the sanitization, physical distancing, and mask-wearing protocols.
Proceed to immigration for border control processing.
Proceed to baggage claim to collect personal luggage.
Proceed to customs for clearance of luggage
Be prepared to be tested at the airport

Testing and Quarantine for U.S. Travelers

Travelers from areas where there is high community transmission of the virus will be tested.
Travelers will be escorted to a public health officer who will conduct a short risk assessment. A decision to conduct a COVID-19 PCR test will be based on the results of the risk assessment.
If selected for testing, the passenger will be directed to COVID-19 PCR test, administered by a health professional.
Use certified transportation providers to get to your COVID-19 compliant accommodation.
The test will be a PCR test and a sample will be taken by oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal swabbing.

Test results will be made available within 48 hours. All persons tested for COVID-19 will be quarantined at their declared accommodation until test results are available.

If showing obvious signs of illness on arrival, a traveler may be removed from regular processing and be quarantined or isolated at their hotel or at a government facility as determined by the health officers.

Quarantine

Persons under quarantine are not permitted to leave the location, except with the permission of the health authorities. The quarantine location is either at a hotel arranged or a government facility, as determined by the health authorities.

Upon arrival after clearing immigration and customs, head to the arrival hall or desk #10 inside the arrival lobby to meet the Amstar representative.

For those going to Club MoBay alert "Arrival Service" inform the representative transportation is with Amstar. To avoid missing the transfer and help ensure a timely departure please do not wait in the Club MoBay Lounge unless directed to by an Amstar Representative.

Transportation is provided, avoid all timeshare representatives or taxi operators offering information and products in the arrival hall.

Highlights of RIU's enhanced protocol

Reception:

The implementation of preventative measures at the Hotel entrance includes taking temperatures, hand disinfectants, masks, and social distancing.

Mobile app as an information tool for all the hotel's communal areas
Social Distancing through room allocation

Receipt of goods:

All supplier's staff temperatures will be checked.
If possible, products will not enter the hotel and must be transferred to disinfected crates.
Fruit and vegetables will be disinfected before being stored

Maintenance:

Personal hygiene procedures have been implemented to include gloves and masks for all staff.
Air conditioning maintenance in rooms and common areas to include weekly disinfection of filters.
Water systems (pools, spa, domestic and irrigation water) are monitored constantly

Restaurant:

Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Hours will be extended.
Staff will manage entry to the restaurant and show guests to their allocated table.
Guests must undergo a temperature control check before being allowed access and hand disinfectant.
Guests must use a mask and gloves and hydro-alcoholic gel.

Bar:

Guests must rub the hydro-alcoholic gel onto hands and use a mask and gloves to access it.
Signaling tape and marks will be installed to ensure correct social distancing
Cleaning and disinfection procedures during and after each service.
tables and chairs (surfaces and sides) and any items left on the table, will be disinfected after each guest.
All chemical products that are used are considered to be effective against COVID19 as their safety data sheets have been revised.

Housekeeping:

Cleaning and disinfection procedures for cleaning each room, with special attention paid to hand contact areas (Railings, handles, tv/ac remote controls, minibar, etc.…)

Additionally, procedures of performance will be implemented:

Communal indoor and outdoor areas will be cleaned and disinfected every hour, with special attention paid to hand contact areas (Railings and handrails, elevator buttons, etc.…).

Entertainment:

Activities will be carried out whilst maintaining social distancing, limiting capacities, keeping materials sanitized, and having disinfectant gel available.

In step with major carriers such as United and American Airlines, Delta steps up their hygiene and sanitation process aboard air crafts. The airline consults with experts from the CDC, involving leaders, and the air crew to provide the latest information for COVID-19. Delta touts experience from previous pandemics H1N1 & Ebola to ensure the health and safety of the employees and their passengers.

Steps to support healthy flying. Delta has implemented, "6 ways Delta is supporting healthy Flying"

1. Cleaning, Cleaning and more Cleaning

This is includes sanitizing cabins with electrostatic sprayers to sanitize aircraft interiors from top to bottom. The cleaning crews spray thoroughly tray tables, seat backs, screens, lavatories, windows, doors, and an high touch area.

Gate areas, check-in kiosks, seats are cleaned several times during day. The staff is provided with more supplies in the process.

Customers have access to sanitizers at ticket counters, boarding gates, help centers, baggage service, offices, and sky clubs.

Onboard, all blankets are collected and removed off the plane. They are washed, dried, folded, placed in plastic bags using industrial strength washers and dryers.

2. Hand Sanitizers and Amenity Kits

Hand Sanitizers are available in all high touch areas. Passengers are given amenity kits to include hand cleansers and towelettes.

3. Breathing easier

The air circulation onboard the aircraft passes through Hepa Filters which filter 99.9% of particles which makes breathing easier.

4. Employees are armed with supplies and facts

Delta provides the employees with hand sanitizers, gloves, and protective equipment for the flight attendants as well as pilots who are in close contact with the customers

Subject to CDC's current No Sail Order, Royal Caribbean suspends all its cruise operations to September 15, 2020, working towards containing the spread of the Corona Virus.

Guests previously booked and impacted due to suspension have three options: 1. Lift and Sail, 2. Future Cruise Credit, or 3. Full Refund.

Lift and Shift provides the opportunity to move the current booking to the next year 2021 on the same itinerary, sailing, room category, and within the same week as the previous booking.

Clean Plus Program at United Airlines

United Airlines has deployed the "Clean Plus Program" in response for a healthier flight experience due to the COVID-19 crisis.

The United Clean Plus program is based on three points:

Deliver industry cleanliness
Prioritize well being
Innovate for a healthier tomorrow

United Airlines is working with the Cleveland Clinics to enhance cleaning and disinfecting protocols.

A breakdown for each point is as follows:

Firstly, their approach to deliver industry cleanliness will include disinfecting high touch areas to include, arm rests, door handles, lavatories, seat backs screens, and seat belts.

Secondly, they prioritize the well being for the staff and the passengers. This includes providing hand sanitizers to the employees and other suppliers. Each passenger will receive a hand sanitizer wipe as they board the aircraft. The goal is to meet as well as exceed the guidelines according to the Center of Disease and Prevention Control (CDC).

United Airlines has stepped up their cleanliness practice to include electrostatic spraying for cabin sanitation on the aircraft at the hub stations. HEPA filters have been installed to prevent 99.9% of airborne particles. Self service kiosks have been temporarily shutdown. Passengers are advised to scan their boarding passes by downloading the United Airline apps to their phone. Sneeze guards have been implemented at key points such as the baggage area and check-in counters. Other details included all-in-one snack bags. Agents will handle fewer customers at a time. Passengers area advised to checking before arriving to the airport. Full or near full flights can be changed at no fee or receive a travel credit.

Employees will wear face coverings. The six feet social distancing applies

Lastly, Innovating for a healthier tomorrow. United Airlines is seeking to include touch-less kiosks. They seek tools to reduce touch-points. Drones are being to tested to deploy UV sanitation and hand held wands. Artificial Intelligence testing is underway to assist with temperature screening.

It is too much of our dismay, that our favorite musicals were suddenly cancelled. It's been three months of safe and social distancing from COVID-19. Many of us are getting the travel bug, or entertainment bug. Humans are social people.

We miss the buzz of daily life going to work, having a cup of coffee with a friend, seeing the theater, or just plain visiting.

Then there is internet streaming. Which for the most part has helped us keep our sanity, and satiated some of the travel and entertainment bug.

The return of Broadway musicals has been postponed until September 6, 2020. For those theater fans, it's a good time to stream online for some old musicals. It's a great opportunity, to relive favorite artists and actors in their original roles.

PBS is making their library free instead of charging $5 to become a passport member.
