Mallory + David = A Destination Wedding Done Just Right

Mallory and David met during their college years in Purdue and have been dating for 8 years until they tied the knot last May.

Cayman was the natural choice for the location of their destination wedding as Mallory's family have vacationed to the Cayman Islands for years. During these vacations, Mallory and her family witnessed quite a number of weddings right on the beach. These weddings have left an impression so much so that Mallory, while still in high school, told her dad that the Cayman Islands is where she wants to be married.

We just love how fun these photos are! Check out Mallory's unique sandals and David's colorful socks!

Fast forward to 2011. Mallory is making that statement she made in her youth a reality. A wedding in the Cayman Islands it was to be!

Mallory has emailed Celebrations and was subsequently introduced to Mary Ann. Mallory: "I loved Mary Ann! She was professional, easy to work with, organized and efficient. She made the long distance planning process so much easier and put me at ease. For about 10 months, I would send her email after email and she always responded quickly with information. I would recommend Mary Ann to anyone getting married in the Cayman Islands, she made all my ideas reality! Any problems that did arise over the planning process, she was very quick to help eliminate and give recommendations. She knew what she was doing and had the experience to know what the best options were. "

We adore how Mallory and her bridal party infused some fun in color with these brightly colored sandals!

Mallory recalls her wedding to be perfect for what she and David envisioned it to be. They only had family and close friends, so it was the intimate affair they wanted. They chose the Governor's Lawn at the Westin which is the perfect spot to have all their wedding events in one spot....the ceremony on the beach, cocktail and dinner reception on the lawn and then dancing in the ballroom overlooking the wedding dinner reception. The weather was perfect, lighting was great and everyone was in vacation mode, so the mood was right.

What's a Cayman Islands destination wedding without a jump shot?

Mallory and David chose simple decor elements to complement the gorgeous backdrop that Cayman has to offer. Flowers were limited to the bouquets and candles were used as table centerpieces which set the perfect mood for outside. A large moon hovered over the party, which gave it a very unique feel along with white linens and a punch of yellow.

When asked what was the highlight of her wedding, Mallory reminisces: "The highlight of my day was during our ceremony, when I looked back at all of our guests and could see the cocktail hour and dinner area set-up, it was an awesome moment. Everyone we love in one place, a beautiful evening was about to start and the place looked just awesome. "

We couldn't have said it any better! Congratulations again Mallory and David!

Jessica Bodden, or Jess as she is fondly called by everyone, is a true blue Cayman daughter. Born and raised in Cayman, Jess is a real island girl; easy going yet with a strong sense of purpose. She is a nature crusader and a staunch supporter of the abundant Cayman talent. She has earned a Bachelors degree in Graphic Design and Advertising from Miami International University of Art and Design. With this degree already tucked under her wings, Jess moved to London and while there, she obtained another Diploma in Events Management and PR.

For the last seven years Jess has worked in events coordination, including corporate, wedding, and private functions. She joined the Celebrations team in February 2011 bringing with her a wealth of experience and knowledge in the field of weddings and event planning.

Jess is known for creating a unique experience for all of her clientele by providing exceptional service. She is well-known for her zealous pursuit of excellence in all her endeavours as a planner. Celebrations + Marriott = Another Successful Christmas Open House

July might be too early to start planning for Christmas for most people, but not for us at Celebrations! We believe no time is soon enough to start getting ready our favorite time of the year...Christmas!!!

For 2 years now, the start of Christmas Season for us is marked by the Annual Christmas Open House in July with Celebrations working in tandem with the Grand Cayman Marriott Hotel. This annual event was initiated for Marriott to showcase the different types of services and venue options that it has to offer and for Celebrations to exhibit the various Christmas Party themes that we can create at the Marriott.

We take this great opportunity to introduce our varied themes that can range from the eclectic to the traditional, from rustic to the luxurious and from small Holiday soirees to large corporate Christmas parties! Really and truly, anything is possible with Marriott and Celebrations working together.

Molly + Patrick : Cayman Islands Destination Wedding Fairy Tale

Molly Bergeson and Patrick O'Bryant, an American professional basketball player who used to play for Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors, met during their freshmen year at Bradley University in 2004. Soon after, they started dating. In 2009, Patrick got down on his knee and proposed to Molly while they were inside a jewelry store owned by an acquaintance.

The couple currently lives in Las Vegas and has family and friends from all over. When they started planning their wedding, they knew the wedding had to be somewhere where all their family and friends can come together and have a blast. The couple had been to the Cayman Islands 6 times already on holidays and both fell in love with how peaceful and stunning the Cayman Islands is and how wonderfully warm the people are. So Cayman was a natural choice for their destination wedding.

From Molly:

"Our wedding would be the first time, and probably last time, that we would be able have all of our family and friends in the same place at the same time. On top of that, most of them had never even met one another before. Most importantly, we really wanted everyone to have time to meet, mingle, and chat, but we also wanted it to seem like the huge celebration/party that it turned out to be. We knew the money people were spending to come down to Grand Cayman so we wanted it to be the best event that they have been to and one that they would remember for years to come. Mary Ann knew exactly how to achieve that. Her ideas were right on point and when we came down in May to meet with her, I could tell that she had already put a lot of time into planning our wedding. I felt comfortable with her right away. She was completely personable and relatable. She knew how to make our expectations come to life and did it in a way that was so professional. Everyone had a great experience and it was the best party I've ever been to!"

When asked what were the most memorable parts of the wedding, Molly candidly answered: "There were so many different parts of the wedding and reception that were so unique and special. The whole event in my eyes was beautiful and wonderful in every aspect of those words, but if I had to pick out a few outstanding moments (because I can't just pick one) I would have to say the first would be seeing the ceremony site for the first time. The decor, the setting, and the view were outstanding. Nothing could beat looking down the beach to all our guests and the ocean as we were walking down the aisle to meet my new husband. It was breathtaking. The chairs, canopy, tiki torches, ocean, our guests, and the wedding party were absolutely more perfect than I had ever imagined. "

"Next, would be when I finally heard the steel drummer playing 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'. The goose bumps popped up on my arms as I knew it was time to become a Mrs. It was all just so perfect that at first it didn't seem to be real."

"The best part of the reception would definitely be everyone dancing all night long and the lounge area. Everyone used the lounge couches! It was such a great idea to have them there for everyone to sit on and still be near the dance floor to be a part of the fun. The draped walls and the colored lighting were so posh! They transformed the entire room into something spectacular and over the top. It was definitely the finishing touch to a beautiful room. Mary Ann went above and beyond making everything standout for us."

"Our event was so wonderful because of several ingredients. Our family and friends came so far to share in these memories with us. We are forever grateful to them for making this the most outstanding wedding that we could have ever imagined. We felt more than loved these past two weeks with everyone. Celebrations and Mary Ann transformed Seven Mile Beach into a beach from a fairy tale. I felt like a true princess on our wedding day due to the beauty of our event, the help that we were provided, and all the attention we were given. It was breathtaking. I loved the ease of the day as well. Mary Ann had everything taken care of before I even wondered about them. All I had to do was sit back and count the hours, minutes, and then, finally, seconds until I was Mrs. O'Bryant. Thank you all so much for everything!

Engage 11 Wedding Summit San Diego - Day 3 "The Finale"

Day 3 started with a yummy breakfast buffet of of crepes, exotic fruits and all kinds of heavenly pastries! What a great way to start the day!

We have been terribly spoilt for the choices in the number of informational and inspirational sessions that have been arranged for us on the last day of Engage11 San Diego.

Our first session is a Media Panel hosted by my friend and very inspiring Michelle Rago, who did an outstanding and job and gave such insight into understanding all the aspects of how to get the best media for your business.

The panel consisted of Jill Meister of Meister Innovative Consulting; Christy Weber of Junebug Weddings, Marilyn Oliveria of Inside Weddings; Susan Moynihan of Destination Weddings and Honeymoons, Angela Desveaux of WedLuxe and Abby Larson of Style Me Pretty! There was nothing missing... the best magazines, television and blog media all on one stage giving incredible insight, and the sentence of the day was "for sure, you won't get published, if you don't submit".

A delight for me personally was attending the session with Jasmine Star, Harmony Walton and Lara Casey. I learned so much and these ladies know about media, and what it takes to get your message out in the wedding world. I was very enlightened by their presentations and handouts.

A stunning gala, seated with fantastic people, had to be the perfect ending to this incredible summit! The photos will speak for themselves, the setting fantabulous...the energy levels and joy permeating.... A great time was had by all. The photos speak for themselves… Mindy Weiss (the ultimate planner), Lehr & Black (the paper extraordinaire), Revelry Design (all the design details), Mark’s Garden (the floral genius), and West Coast Music (a band like no others) created an evening to remember! All the pretty details…

Engage 11 Wedding Summit San Diego - Day 2

If Day 1 was just the start, Day 2 was clearly the day where we got our feet wet.

It was apparent how everyone was rearing to go and meet Day 2 full on. We all rose up early to enjoy a scrumptious breakfast prepared by the fabulous The Grand Del Mar . The details were impeccable and the service exceptional. Again, The Grand Del Mar surpassed my expectations.

With a hearty and healthy breakfast we were prepped for the exciting day ahead! Check out these specially cut fruits and the omelet station!

The setting for the General Opening Session was in one word -- LUXURIOUS. The red, noire, and ivory theme for this summit certainly made its statement in this room. With a beautifully set stage and each one of our seats laden with all sorts of trimmings and goodies, it was easy to say that we were in for a very special day of learning!

Upon reaching my designated seat, I was more pleasantly surprised with all the stationery laid out in front of me. From the LetterPress "Schedule of Speakers" to the matching notebooks to the itinerary of events, all so thoughtfully designed and complimentary of each other, credit must be given to the highly talented team of Chariot. For the creative design elements throughout the conference and for all the printed materials, signages and whatnots, again, Kristy Rice of Momental Designs did an astounding job. Kudos also goes to Two Paper Dolls for their unparalleled quality, they are a league of their own.

To kick start the General session Rebecca and Kathryn of Engaging Concepts gave a summary of the Wedding Industry. Rebecca is always so informative and her energy is just so infectious, she practically breaths energy into everyone's soul.

The man of the moment, my super hero, Todd Fiscus of Todd Events was the first among the speakers. His topic was FIREwork! Todd is so easy to listen to that you forget you are in a room with 270 other wedding professionals. He is so down to earth and clearly passionate about weddings. He reminded us that wedding planning and design is a job and that we need to make a living out of what we love to do. It is a passion as it is a business. Creativity + Business Sense= Success! Great business insight from a man who is an incredible designer to boot!

Next to speak was classy Cindy Novotny. I've had the fortunate opportunity to hear her speak for the first time last year in Cayman at Engage!10 and I was truly inspired by her no-nonsense-get-on-with-it message. With her wit and wisdom on the wedding biz she certainly turned on some fires, especially in me! Cindy made me realize that in our daily lives we oftentimes lose ourselves and forget the influence we have on others. It is imperative that we cultivate our passion to influence others and that we get a grip of what we really want and do everything in our powers to claim that dream! Cindy really drove these messages home! Her key message points - 1. Focus on just ONE thing; 2.What do you really want?, 3. Excellence is not optional, 4. Clear the mental clutter. Cindy is simply phenomenal!

After such an inspiring morning, we were treated to a mystical luncheon on the lawn of The Grand Del Mar. The sight of that spectacular tent provided by Raj Tents just blew me away. Walking inside, I felt like I was transported to a chic Morrocan marquee fit for a king! I couldn't help gush at all the lovely details that were meticulously laid out for us inside -- from the linens- to the menus-and down to the florals.

At lunch, the legendary, cake diva Sylvia Weinstock gave us a few lessons on cake decorating.

Afternoon sessions started with Marcy Blum, -- a classic lady with amazing insights on life,on being grounded and on how to reach for the stars! Marcy was brimming with knowledge on the wedding industry and on how we can make each occasion a momentous event.

Carley Roney, Editor in Chief of The Knot, always poised and elegant, eloquently delivered a really informative talk on Luxury Weddings. Carley gave us mind blowing statistics highlighting the huge percentage of the market place that is deemed to be luxury weddings!!! Listening to her brought me back to 2008 when Carley and my Celebrations team worked together for a Knot TV Destination Wedding filmed mostly in Little Cayman, Cayman Islands!

Having never heard Mindy Weiss speak in person prior to Engage11, I was obviously really looking forward to her speech. Like in any instances where you a chance to meet famous and highly successful people, you tend to have extremely high expectations. However, to my sheer delight , Mindy was so down to earth that it wasn't hard for me to relate to her views and opinions on the wedding industry. Her message was clear, concise and very targeted! She reminded us that if we are in the wedding event business, we have a gene that we are born with and it is THAT gene that rules! She warned us also about staying with what you know, and doing it to the very best of your ability. Mindy further reminded us not take ourselves too seriously, and never send out negative energy!

The ending of the general session was an intimate conversation with Bride's Magazine Millie Bratten and Monique Lhuillier -- a treat that cannot be imagined! What an amazing young woman Monique is, and Millie as usual was superb. We could not have asked for a better ending to a fantastic day of information, collaboration, and pizzazz!

Engage11- San Diego General Session for me, in a nutshell, was the most empowering of all the wedding summits I have been to. I say this not to undermine the past summits I've attended ( because they were all good too!) but to give recognition to Rebecca and Kathryn of Engaging Concepts for doing such an amazing job in putting together such a powerful line-up of speakers. Each and everyone of the speakers and their presentations were riveting and inspiring. We were practically glued to our seats listening to the wedding industry experts share their wonderful insights and funny anecdotes! You could see how passionate everyone is about weddings and all its nuances judging from the glimmer in our eyes.

In the evening, we were once again spoilt to the hilt with dinner at designated special restaurants in San Diego. We were divided into groups with various speakers actings as hosts. I was very fortunate to dine with Mindy Weiss at an extraordinary restaurant Cal A Vie.

This dinner was such a treat, to say the very least. The restaurant's ambiance, the gastronomic delight we devoured and the free-flowing and inspiring conversation within our group made this night a memorable one.

Where do I begin? It is a week since attending Engage!11 in San Diego, and I am still bubbling I cannot begin to say how much I enjoyed being; what an incredible experience! I have so much to share. I feel like I have been a part of this entire conference from its very inception when that unbelievable lady, Rebecca Grinnals, Engaging Concepts discussed the idea with me at my office in the Cayman Islands! And look at where this conference is now! This is without question the paramount wedding summit in the world. This conference is world class, and with Rebecca and Kathryn's innovative and pioneering steadfastness, they are taking the attendees and participants of this conference to a stratosphere that no other industry conference could ever deliver or has ever delivered. This conference is indelible in my mind; the networking collaberation, friendships, have changed the way I conduct myself and my business.

The location of the conference, the host The Grand Del Mar in San Diego was not a resort or hotel, it was a destination. Service, cuisine, and friendliness of staff impeccable, to feel at home and welcome in these pristine surroundings was remarkable.

Stylish decor for the welcome session

We were so fortunate to have incredible speakers, that not only inspired, but were so willing to share, I am so lucky, indeed my entire team are so lucky to be part of this incredible industry.

Later that night, we were all invited to the Welcome Party overlooking the San Diego Valley. It was truly a feast, food and decor wise.

"Grazing" stations and food trucks gave an informal feel to this outdoor party. Yet were spoilt all through out with scrumptious nibbles ranging from grilled seafood to mini burgers to popcorn.I knew right then that we were going to have a night to remember.

The night's entertainment was provided by Elan Artists. The Earth Harp, which I have never seen ever before, was the heartbeat of the party. It didn't take long for everybody to get up on their feet and start dancing the night away!

The History of Father's Day

Father's Day, in the United States, is a holiday (third Sunday in June) to honour fathers. Credit for originating the holiday is generally given to Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, whose father, a Civil War veteran, raised her and her five siblings after their mother died in childbirth. She is said to have had the idea in 1909 while listening to a sermon on Mother's Day, which at the time was becoming established as a holiday. Local religious leaders supported the idea, and the first Father's Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, the month of the birthday of Dodd's father. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge gave his support to the observance, and in 1966 President Lyndon B. Johnson officially proclaimed it a national holiday. Observance on the third Sunday of June was decreed by law in 1972.

Although it was originally largely a religious holiday, Father's Day has been commercialized with the sending of greeting cards and the giving of gifts. Some observe the custom of wearing a red rose to indicate that one's father is living or a white rose to indicate that he is deceased. Other males—for example, grandfathers or uncles who have assumed parenting roles—are often also honoured on the day. Some Roman Catholics have continued to observe the feast day of Saint Joseph, on March 19, as a tribute to fathers.

When Sweet Meets Style

Last week, my Team & I had the very pleasant opportunity to design the book launch of Dylan Lauren, the author Dylan's Candy Bar: Unwrap Your Sweet Life. Dylan is the Founder and CEO of Dylan's Candy Bar and also the daughter of illustrious parents: legendary fashion designer Ralph Lauren and artist/photographer Ricky Lauren.

Dylan’s dream of combining a love of candy and a passion for art became a reality in 2001, when the first Dylan's Candy Bar, located in New York City, opened for business. Since then Dylan has expanded her stores to include locations in Orlando, Houston and Roosevelt Field Mall and East Hampton, both in New York state.

She published her first book Dylan's Candy Bar: Unwrap Your Sweet Life in her effort to share her love for candy and art. In her book, Dylan shows how to celebrate with candy every day and on holidays, featuring innovative decorating and gift-giving ideas, Dylan's personal candy memories, over 20 inventive candy craft ideas and so much more.

So when we were given the wonderful opportunity to design her book signing event, we knew we had to come up with a design that would embody Dylan's love for candy and art. It had to be fashionable, Pop-artsy and ultimately sweet!

Momental Designs + Celebrations = A Successful Collaboration

This week started with exciting news!

We've found out from Kristy Rice of Momental Designs that the shoot we've collaborated with Momental Designs and Donna Von Bruenig of DVB Photography back in June 2010 has made it to this year's Summer issue of Destination I Do Magazine. This collaboration is one of the many fruits of being a part of luxury wedding summit such as Engage!10.

The whole concept of the shoot was centered on this romantic beauty of a Momental Big Bloom Watercolor illustration and the saturated colors of citrus & cranberry.

Here's the model, Josephine Hislop, a real Celebrations wedding bride ( check out her real wedding here! ) wearing a Gown and Hairpiece by Alisa Benay and while holding the Momental invitation that inspired the whole look and feel of the shoot.

Take a look at some of the photos of the reception area, featuring this one of a kind centerpiece-- a fully packed garland consisting of rich coloured flowers such as dahlias, peonies roses, hydrangeas, gloriosas and so much more exotic flowers!

The rustic box seats proved ideal for the beach setting! Rustic and chic.

For added drama, we've also created a tropical floral piece made of hanging heliconias shooting out of a vase filled with blood oranges!

The sorbet station looked absolutely amazing with the touches of blood oranges, hanging sea shells and tropical flowers!

Some other gorgeous details , such as the favor bag of natural jute with a hand-painted oriental fan and sparklers!

Valentine's Gift Shopping Tips for Men

Choosing a Valentine’s Day gift can be stressful - not only do you have to decide on a gift, you also have to be aware of what message your gift sends to your recipient. In this way, Valentine’s Day is different from other holidays. The problem arises because, for many, Valentine's Day is the ultimate day to celebrate love and romance, while to others, it's not a big deal.

"How do I choose the right gift for Valentine’s Day?" Before you decide on a gift, especially if you are choosing between a naughty or a nice gift, there are two things you should consider:
Your relationship. What stage is your relationship in? Have you just met, dating for awhile but still getting to know each other, or are you in a long term relationship, married, or perhaps a secret admirer?
Your message to them. What statement you want to make with your choice of gift. Do you want to leave them speechless? Say you are sorry? Do you want to drive them wild? Or do you just want to say, “I'm thinking of you”?

Once you have answered these questions, you are ready to shop.

Valentine's Day Shopping Tips for the Men

Guys, beware! Show that you put some thought into your choice of gift. This can make or break a relationship. Your significant other will be looking for a clue as to the message you are sending through your gift. Think romance! To most ladies, Valentine's Day is the day their man acknowledges his affection/love (depending on the stage of your relationship) for her. If this doesn't happen, she could be greatly disappointed.

DONT'S

1. No flowers in plastic sheaths – this has grocery store/procrastination written all over it! If you purchase flowers, present them a vase.

2. Avoid Lingerie unless she has pointed it out. Lingerie for Valentine's Day is never for her, but rather for you. If you do go this route, save her the humiliation of trying it on if it isn't quite right.

3. Be careful not to sabotage her diet with excessive gifts of chocolate.

4. Humorous gag gifts can be great Valentine's Day fun, but don’t go so far as to embarrass your loved one.

5. Clothes is usually not be the best choice, but If you choose to give apparel, do your homework!! Make sure to buy the correct size and style. Don't buy a smaller size as not to offend her – it makes for an awkward situation when it doesn't fit. Also, many ladies have favorite colors and colors they avoid when it comes to clothing, find out her best colors.

6. Avoid the practical. Even if you know she really wants that new kitchen appliance, don't go there for Valentine's Day! Valentine's Day is about celebrating your relationship.

DO'S

1. Send something! Don't let the day pass you by - if you don't acknowledge her on Valentine's Day, someone else might.

2. Make sure the gift is appropriate for your relationship and is sending the right message.

3. Be yourself! Don't send a mushy gift if that is totally out of character for you. There are many choices for Valentine's Day to suit your gifting style.

4. Shop Now! Procrastination increases your stress level and decreases your creativity. Not a good combination! Waiting until the last minute will increase your chances of sending the wrong message, and that, will get you in trouble every time. You can save valuable time by getting ideas and shopping online.

Remember, for Valentine's Day, the best present of all is you! As long as the gift you send has meaning, it will be cherished. Valentine’s Day can be anything you want it to be - from romantic to fun.

Colleen + Mike : A Classic Grand Cayman Destination Wedding

This classic tropical beach wedding is oozing with bright, simple and elegant design elements. With the gorgeous Seven Mile Beach as the chosen location for Colleen and Mike's wedding, Mother Nature has given this destination wedding a natural yet amazing backdrop of gorgeous sunny skies, pristine white beach, and calming blue Caribbean seas. Throw in rustic decor and beautiful tropical flowers, you have the perfect recipe for a memorable tropical-inspired wedding.

For the wedding ceremony, rows and rows of bamboo chairs were lined up forming an aisle way leading to this stunning bamboo arch fully accentuated with willow, sea grape leaves, orange and purple flowers that included Gerberas and Calla Lilies. We love how the bright colors coming from the flowers just simply pop-out against the beautiful Cayman blue ocean!

The newlywed posing with their wedding entourage at a close by dock in West Bay. Colleen chose orange as the main color for her bridal bouquet using Calla Lilies, Orange "Wow" Roses, Tulips and White Freesias. Her bridesmaids opted for Purple Lisanthuses, Orange Roses, and Green Cymbidiums. We just love how the bright flowers stood out against the pale lavender bridesmaids' dresses! The men looked dapper in their suits with a bright pop of color from their boutonnieres.

For the cocktail and dinner reception, simplicity was still key to this wedding. Brown linens were accented by punches of color from flowers and sea grape leaves arranged in simple geometric glass vases. Purple and Orange hued pillows also dotted the lounge areas.

We absolutely L-O-V-E these colorful photos. Colleen was just the picture of a glowing bride!!
