I think the first asian actress I really liked, and mostly because she was the first I ever really watched would be Lucy Liu (traditional Chinese: 劉玉玲; simplified Chinese: 刘玉玲; pinyin: Liú Yùlíng). I remember seeing her in Ally Mcbeal one day. With her sassy attitude and great looks, I was taken.

Lucy Liu is a Taiwanese actress who was born in America on the 2nd of December in 1968. Apart from staring in a few series, Lucy really made American fame in the Charlies Angels movies. I’m sure we can all remember her in that leather outfit, or as that angry teacher donning a whip.

And what’s best here is I think Lucy Liu only gets more gorgeous with age. Oh, and boys, AND girls, on her sexuality, Lucy says

It’s just a pity her vampire movie Rise seemed to have had been rushed and to short (it does have a cult following though!) and that she acts in mostly series now rather than more movies. I’d like to see Lucy in something they’d cast for Angelina Jolie. Now that would be interesting. However, it doesn’t look like she is working on any movies at the moment.

You’ll probably remember this girl from Azumi 2 or Kill Bill; but there is more to Chiaki Kuriyama (栗山千明 ,Kuriyama Chiak)  than those two movies.

Chiaki who was born in Tsuchiura, Ikaraki Prefecture on the 10th of October 1984; she began working as a model in the mid-1990, and soon became one of the most popular models in Japan.

So why Chiaki? Well the girl has a look that certainly puts her apart from the rest. With her iconic school girl hairstyle (as seen in Kill Bill when she played Gogo Yubari - and has taken Hollywood by storm as of late),  her beautiful eyes and almost edgy-perfect-for-horror look, this girl certainly takes the screen and makes it hers.

And when I say perfect for horror look, I really mean it. Chiaki made her acting fame starring in horror films like Shikoku in 1999 and Ju-on in 2000.   

So what’s Chiaki up to as of late? Well she can be caught once again on the big screen starring as Ling Xiaoyu from Tekken as well as Hagetaka : The Movie which is said to be released this year!

The beautiful Ayu (as she is lovingly called by her fans) who is also known as Ayumi Hamasaki (浜崎 あゆみ ,Hamasaki Ayumi?, also 浜崎歩) is another one of my favourite actresses.

This in itself is rather weird as Ayumi is actually more of a singer than an actress. As far as I know, she doesn’t even act anymore. The first movie I saw Ayumi in was Kamikaze Girls along with Anna Tsuchiya. I really love that movie! 

Ayumi Hamasaki is a Japanese lady who was born in the Fukuoka Prefecture and was raised by her mother and grandmother. Ayumi started her career as a model to help out with supporting the family.

So why am I writing about Ayumi? Well, she recently (25 March 2009) released her tenth studio album known as Next Level. Her first single from the album made it to number one in December and her third one is going to be used in Dragonball Evolution.

Even though Ayumi was diagnosed with an condition that makes her deaf in her left ear, she is still going strong, and I believe deserves all the fame and support she gets.

Ziyi is currently working on three movies (Lost for words – in production, Waiting – in production and Sophie’s Revenge – filming. Her new Movie Horsemen was released in early February.

Horsemen looks like a good horror/thriller staring Dennis Quaid and Ziyi as leads. The movie finds the lead distanced from his sons after the untimely death of his wife. He investigates a series of rare murders that seem to be unusually violent. During investigating these murders he finds out he is linked to all the victims, and that it has something to do with biblical prophecies and the four horsemen of the apocalypse. Sounds pretty good! (7.8 IMDB rating!)

Boa is actually my age, and celebrates her birthday just 9 days before mine on the 5th of November! She is a Korean singer yet because of her multi-lingual abilities is pretty big all over Asia (mostly South Korea and Japan) and in western countries like the United States.

This New York born beauty who was rated #24 of the top 100 Japanese artists of all time by HMV will be in America for the next few days and you may even be able to catch her performing live!!!

Tonight, is the first Sephora Utada listening party in Hollywood, tomorrow is New York and Friday is Miami. It hasn’t been confirmed that Utada will perform but there seems to be some very cool stuff going on at these parties. The 23, soon to be 24 year old was born in Tokyo as Shiyo ko Nakagawa. Besides being a geek, and rather pleasing to the eye, this girl can sing, dance, draw and act – no wonder Shoko is one of Japan’s top idols!

Shoko Nakagawa, is represented by the Watanabe Entertainment talent agency and currently co-hosts the children’s morning show Pokemon Sunday.

Her nickname is Shokotan while her x-box live nick is shokommts, yes that’s right boys and girls, this girl is a gamer too – what a combination!
