Halloween is Saturday, and we're all about to climb onto a swift slide into the holidays – it will be New Year's Eve before you know it. As we all look toward Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, New Year's, and all the gatherings and parties and celebrations therein, it seemed like a good time to swap all our best tips and tricks for the next few months. Kim Kardashian just wore one of these looks on the red carpet for All's Fair. Are we gonna see any more of these looks on celebs – or even just on brides? Let's discuss!

McKenna Grace started out with a gown that directly replicated a Katniss Everdeen special from the original Hunger Games series, and then evoked Jennifer Lawrence at the Academy Museum, a likeness which I forgot to even consider at the time even though I MENTIONED THE MOVIE in the caption. Her Newport Beach gown evoked a butterfly motif connected to Effie Trinkett in the movies. She wore an archival Chloe that I wish we had proper pics of, because it looks nicely done and I'm curious what its reference is. And now we have three more offerings, all of which are archival and at least two of which have Meaning. I know theme dressing can get exhausting after a while, but when carefully done, it can be useful for younger actresses who aren't established household names. This will get LOTS of profile-boosting clicks and engagement across the Internet, and allows her to wear a huge range of outfits under the umbrella of "Hunger Games," which lets her be more of a chameleon of sorts than, say, Lexi Minetree, whose Elle tour was very very literal. So even if they don't all work on their own, as a whole they probably will do exactly what Team Grace intended.

Given all these film festivals that seem to last ten days, AFI Fest was neat and tidy and fast – in with Wildwood on the 21st, and out with Being Heumann on the 25th, with a pit stop past Josephine and Behemoth! and a few others in between. Like The Mosquito Bowl, the description of which on Wikipedia was written by someone who did not trust our reading comprehension: "It is based on the 2022 Buzz Bissinger book The Mosquito Bowl: A Game of Life and Death in World War II, about the Mosquito Bowl game played during World War II." NO KIDDING. Why is it called The Mosquito Bowl? I DO NOT KNOW, because no matter how far I drilled down in Wikipedia, nobody actually says. I am forced to conclude it's because there were lots of mosquitos that night. The Mosquito Bowl took place on Guadalcanal, between a bunch of marines, many of whom were football prospects who went on to play in the pros. However, I did not expect this: "The author Buzz Bissinger believes that he first came across the story while working with Caitlyn Jenner on a memoir about her father, who was part of the troops for the Normandy landings and the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp." From what I can tell, that memoir is I Am Cait, a memoir of Jenner herself that reflects on her relationship with her father. When I started typing this, it seemed unlikely this post would circle back around to the Jenner/Kardashian family, but the content gods work in mysterious ways.

Also, bleating sports idiot Pat McAfee has a guest role in this movie, but I refuse to pay for a photo of that buffoon, so he's not in here. This post has thus been marked safe from Pat McAfee. I also just realized that the invasive ad we had on this site for a long time, which PLAGUED US ALL and WOULD NOT GO AWAY, shares his name. In the words of Lisa Simpson:

In case you were wondering where we left all these folks, I conveniently have a big piece in Drinks With Broads today, running that down! (It's Tuesday, so today's DWB is free for everyone to read.) The Gilded Age is back this Sunday on HBO and, spoiler, it is WEIRD to see some of these folks out of their bustles and in modern dress. Let's see just HOW weird.

PS: Don't worry about Christine Baranski – she's in London right now, starring in a very well-reviewed (including by Fug Nationals!) revival of Noel Coward's Hay Fever.

We talked a bit about what makes a Moment in the comments yesterday, and whether Kim's vintage YSL counted. To me, it does, because the dress itself was intriguing, dramatic, and properly fitted, even if Kim as the model is not to everyone's taste. Conversely, I would call this an anti-Moment because even though it will likewise get plenty of press, the dress is a silly version of the same silhouette, and designed to look like it's falling off.

Per the designer, Galia Lahav, this came straight from the Bridal Week runway, and indeed:

Turns out it's just as dumb when you see it on a professional model. I guess... you can rip off that skirt and dance with a quickness?

God bless a truly hideous outfit that feels organic, rather than special-ordered by a stylist. This is like a Delia's Catalog hauled itself out from the attic, got drunk with Forever 21, and then fell down and got a concussion. I dream of this kind of chicanery.

I feel as though I've been watching previews for this movie for a year now, to the point where I was like, "ANOTHER ONE? No, it's the same one."

As mentioned previously, Chan is in the mix for a possible Best Supporting Actress nod for her turn in Josephine, and she's the next in a series of people to wear Ferragamo lately. Apparently Ferragamo is hot right now! This dress is from the newest resort collection, but Heather did call a Ferragamo look for Gemma Chan recently, and I thought their pre-fall was beautiful. This is obviously very slinky but it's also perfect and beautiful on her. Apparently, her team looked at the lay of the land – in other words, her face – and thought, "why attempt to gild the lily? Let's just remind everyone that she's basically perfect."

Although I perhaps would have added a very sleek evening watch or delicate bracelet. That's it! I'm done!

Are the folks at Dior stressed? They probably should not be; they've been paying Charlize for over 20 years, I would be surprised if she totally bolted at this late date. Having said that, she did opt for something from the Sarah Burton-helmed house of Givenchy for this amfAR event in Dallas. And she also wore Givenchy TWICE during the press push for The Odyssey, and was recently sat front row at the most recent show, while she did not attend Dior. Huh. Maybe they should be a little concerned.

When it comes down to this look...listen, it's cool. (Although I kinda hate the belt buckle.) She looks cool. Probably 85% of humanity would not be able to wear this without looking slightly dumb, but as I think has been well and truly established, Charlize Theron is NOT 85% of humanity.

Look, it is Scorpio season – what better time for Kris Jenner (a Scorpio) to wear this famed Scorpio-themed cloak, which Elizabeth Taylor (a Pisces!) wore to Grace Kelly's 40th birthday party, to which Grace (also a Scorpio) only invited fellow Scorpios – and their spouses, which is how Elizabeth snuck in; Richard Burton's birthday is November 10. (Richard Burton being a Scorpio makes so much sense.) I'm sure Some People on the Internet are worked up about this, but (a) it's fun to see these things out and about again and if it's on Kris Jenner, so be it, and (b) I truly do not think Elizabeth Taylor herself would be fussed about the Kardashians in the slightest. It's a very glamorous look; I don't blame Kris for wanting to wear it somewhere other than the inside of her house!

More interestingly, as you'll see in the slideshow, is what Elizabeth Taylor wore with this cloak to Grace Kelly's party, which no one can top: The iconic Taylor-Burton diamond, a 69 carat number with a rich (no pun intended) history. Let's turn to our friend, Dr. Wiki Pedia for more info, although that entire entry is very interesting and well worth your Procrastination Time:

After its public exhibitions, the diamond was taken to Taylor and Burton in Monaco in November 1969, who were staying on their yacht, the Kalizma, in Monaco's Port Hercules. The diamond's journey to Monaco took three weeks, with the use of three men with identical briefcases, of which only one held the actual diamond. The men flew from New York to Nice in France, and upon entering Monaco an armed guard with a machine gun gave further protection to the diamond. The couple were in Monaco to celebrate Princess Grace's fortieth birthday at the 'Scorpio Ball', a gala ball held at the Hôtel Hermitage in Monte Carlo. The briefcase that contained the diamond also held three 50¢ pairs of stockings that Taylor would buy in New York and were unavailable elsewhere, and Taylor was just as excited to receive the stockings as the diamond.

At the Scorpio Ball Taylor wore the diamond with the Krupp Diamond, which Burton had bought for her in 1968, and the "Ping Pong" diamond, which was only ¹⁄₈ of a carat. The "Ping Pong" diamond had cost only $14 and had been bought for her by Burton after he promised her a diamond if she beat him by ten points at a game of ping pong. When people praised her diamonds at the ball, Taylor would make a show of pretending that they were praising the Ping Pong diamond and not its much larger counterparts. Burton wrote in his diary that "Elizabeth's delight in it is a joy to behold and a very quaint thing to witness is the obvious pleasure that other people take in her wearing it. Even Hjordis Niven and Princess Grace, who are coldish fish, seemed to enjoy her moment. And of course nobody can wear it better. The miraculous face and shoulders and breasts set it off to perfection."

Burton's diaries are a hoot. Anyway, Elizabeth eventually sold the Taylor-Burton diamond and used some of the proceeds to help build a hospital in Botswana; it's now privately held by Robert Mouawad, the billionaire head of the jewelry company Mouawad, which owns a lot of famous gems. (The Krupp Diamond is now owned by the E-Land Group, which said they were going to exhibit it at their theme park, but I can't see that this ever actually happened. Where is this ring? I suppose in a vault somewhere. That would make Taylor sad; it was her favorite piece. It sort of bums me out that these amazing pieces are all locked up right now. If you're going to be a billionaire, at least wear your jewels to events so we can admire.)

This cloak, though, was part of Christie's auction of items belonging to Taylor in 2011. It was estimated to go for $2,000-$3,000 but ultimately sold for an eye-watering $60,000. All of Taylor's items sold for over estimate, I think, but this Tiziani cloak also dates from Karl Lagerfeld's stint at the label and I'm sure that helped goose the price. I'm not sure when Kris got her hands on it, but it does belong to her – she loaned it to Kim to wear it in an episode of All's Fair, the season two premiere of which this event in Rome is celebrating.

I would say I can't fathom why the Rome Film Festival is giving space to Ryan Murphy's All's Fair, but I actually can: money (this is in a "freestyle" time slot earmarked, presumably, for projects with huge promotional budgets that don't really fit at this festival but want the cachet), and star wattage. The cast in general is stacked, although only four of them are here, but: However you feel about Kim, she brings eyeballs, and she knows what to do with that.

As a note: Jessica wrote up a nice juicy piece on what Kris Jenner wore to this event – Kris having finagled herself an executive-producer title on All's Fair – and that will come up next today.

This entire headline is an experience: Florida officer found dead man, impersonated him for years and renovated his home, police say. The best part is that he wants the real heirs to reimburse him for the repairs he did!

Whoa: Unsealed O.J. Simpson Records Prompt a Request for a New Investigation. The crux here is potential evidence that someone helped OJ hide a murder weapon, which I feel is very likely and, as this piece implies, of course the most likely suspect is Al Cowlings.

Apparently, Gemma Chan might be in the running for a Best Supporting Actress nomination – I haven't seen Josephine (and won't because it sounds very upsetting), but I support this for the possible red carpet moments alone. (Apparently Channing Tatum is also great in this one. I feel like Channing is sort of underrated as an actor.)

Madewell did a collab with...the New York Public Library!! It's really cute and going fast – I'm mad I didn't get there in time to snag the cap!

This is a real earworm: The Brewers’ playoff anthem is a high-pitched viral hit with players, fans and the library. If you haven't heard this, it's TERRIBLE but in a way that's extremely funny.

Speaking of sales, the intimates bra CUUP is having a big one; I'm trying out this bra. (I've heard good things about their strapless bra, but, crucially, I have NOT tried it myself. Strapless bras are always a ride.)

The CEO of the McQueen line gave a statement when Seán McGirr was let go, and it said, "His talent and passion have helped us reconnect Alexander McQueen with London, its culture, and its extraordinary creative energy.” Which is fairly meaningless. The man was fired. Might as well be like, "Look, this didn't go as planned. We're calling it." I'm sure this was brewing long before this collection walked, and probably had more to do with sales than anything, but let's see if any if this would've been YOUR last straw.

It's not just Celine: Sarah Paulson and Dua Lipa also just selected outfits from this runway show, but Celine wore two in the span of a week. Ferragamo is officially So Hot Right Now. It's possible everything that can be farmed from this has been, but it can't hurt to look.
