I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season. It’s been busy for me, but I can’t help but think about baking cookies. So, I’m reviewing my list of recipe links for baking cookies for the holidays. I’ve indicated on each recipe, which are gluten-free (GF), dairy-free (DF), paleo (P), and/or vegan (V). I’ve also put a * next to the ones I’ve made with good results. I’m looking forward to trying some new ones this year. If you have any good gluten-free cookie recipes you recommend, please share them in the comments.

It’s November and time to start planning for the holidays. A couple years ago, I put together this list of tips and recipe links to get you started on your Thanksgiving dinner plans. Let’s start with the star of the meal — Turkey and Gravy!

Gluten-Free Turkey:
Most fresh and frozen turkeys are gluten-free these days, but some are still plumped up with broth and other flavorings that may contain gluten. So make sure you check the labels. Here’s a list of gluten-free turkeys to look for in the stores.

Our go-to recipe for brining and cooking a turkey is Alton Brown’s method. Just make sure the broth you use is gluten-free.

Gluten-Free Gravy:

Bon Apetit’s Test Kitchen has a great article online called How to Make Gluten-Free Gravy Taste Good. The article lists three different methods for making gravy. I make gravy at our house using the first option of using a cornstarch slurry instead of flour for thickening. That works good for us. The article also lists Arrowroot and King Arthur’s gluten-free flour as alternative options.

Gluten-Free Gravy Recipes:

Gravy recipe at Nourishing Meals uses sweet rice flour or arrowroot powder.

Gravy recipe at Simply Gluten Free uses starch, stock, wine, heavy cream, etc.

Mushroom Gravy recipe at The Splendid Table uses olive oil, mushrooms, cornstarch, etc.

Sausage Gravy recipe at Gluten-Free Homemaker uses bulk sausage, sweet rice flour, almond milk, etc.

Turkey Gravy recipe at Chef Janet uses rice flour, stock, herbs, etc.

Turkey Gravy recipe at Gluten-Free on a Shoestring uses a mix of flours (without xanthan gum), butter, etc.

Gluten-Free Gravy Mixes:

I usually make chili on Halloween, but it’s really sounding good on this cold, snowy day. So, I’ve decided to make pizza for Halloween instead. I’m going to split the dough into four pieces and let everyone make their own jack-o-lantern pizza. We’ll use cheese, pepperoni, mushrooms, and olives to make some deliciously fun faces.

It got a little busy at my house, and I didn’t get around to planning our meals last week. It makes my week so much more difficult because I have to figure something out late in the day when my energy is a little low. And, I often don’t have the ingredients I need to put a complete meal together. Ugh!

So, I’m back again with a plan to get us through the week. I don’t always follow the plan as written, but I know I have ingredients to put together some meals. Quick and easy is my usual style of cooking, and this week isn’t much different.
