Breast augmentation swelling is common. Your stitch lines will be covered with gauze. Initially your breasts may appear firm, swollen and appear to be sitting high on your chest. 3. How Long Does Rhinoplasty Swelling Last?

Women who are unhappy with the appearance of their breasts are likely to turn to breast augmentation to boost their self-confidence. However, fears of breast augmentation scars caused by traditional breast implant surgery also deter many women from having the procedure.

Plastic surgeons are constantly making innovations in new surgical techniques to solve the problem of breast augmentation scarring. They have devised two methods:

1) Transumbilical Breast Augmentation (TUBA) or Belly Button Breast Augmentation

The surgeon makes a small incision in the navel rim (inner belly button) and inserts an endoscope (lighted camera) to make a track to the implant location. A rolled up implant is then worked from the incision site to the breast implant location. Once in place, sterile saline solution is pumped into the implant until the desired size and shape is achieved. This procedure uses only saline breast implants.

This procedure can be completed in less than an hour with minimal blood loss. Recovery time is therefore reduced. As incisions are not made on the breast, there is no fear of scarring or loss of nipple sensation. There is little interference to the production of breast milk during pregnancy. This procedure is not recommended for women who have had previous breast surgery.

2) Endoscopic Transaxillary Breast Augmentation

Transaxillary breast augmentation is similar to TUBA, except that a small incision is made in the natural folds of tissue in the armpit. A tunnel is then created from the incision site to the breast where an endoscope can be inserted. The endoscope produces images of the breast augmentation area.

This way, the plastic surgeon is able to visualize the area on which they are performing the surgery. He is better able to place the breast implant, and create a pocket that will minimize capsular contracture, creating a more aesthetic breast augmentation.

The implant is then inserted and moved into position behind the nipple. Any scarring is restricted only to the armpit area which usually disappears after six months. This procedure allows for the use of either silicone or saline breast implants. Since the silicone implant is not foldable, your doctor will need to make a slightly bigger incision under your armpit as compared to using a saline impant which can be folded and then filled with saline afterward till the desired size and shape is obtained.

As with any cosmetic surgery procedure, the two techniques outlined above requires the plastic surgeon to be highly skilled. Be sure to take your time to find a qualified and experienced breast augmentation plastic surgeon for your procedure. When talking with your surgeon, ask about the benefits and risks of each type of breast augmentation procedure, before you decide on which procedure to undergo.
