The Turtle Salon for Michael H Shamberg

The Hardy Tree Gallery in St Pancras, London plays host to a special Turtle Salon exhibition of artists who are in some way related to the work of Michael Shamberg, the filmmaker noted for his work with New Order and who also ran Factory's US operations. This is more or less the same display that was shown on the Left Bank in Paris last October (at the time of New Order's Paris benefit gig for Michael) and will be relocating to Brighton at some point.

The Hardy Tree Gallery is an intimate space situated in the railway arches just behind St Pancras station at 119 Pancras Road. The curator is Cameron Maxwell from Toronto.

There are over 60 pieces on display which includes paintings, drawings, photographs, posters and collages which employ a variety of materials. In addition to this there is a series of short independent films for viewing. Some of the film footage has been integrated by Bernard Sumner into the visuals used at the recent New Order shows.

Exemplar: Joy Division Q&A

Peter Hook and Kevin Cummins will be in conversation with compere Kevin Sampson on Thursday 23 February from 6 to 9pm at the Manchester Photographic Gallery where Cummins's Joy Division: Exemplar exhibition has just been extended. Tickets, limited to just 100 places, are available at the gallery at its new 6 Tariff Street, Manchester location or by emailing bookings@manchesterphotographic.com with your name and a contact telephone number to take telephone payments.

Kevin is also hosting a photography masterclass at the gallery on Saturday 25 February.

Listen to the Radcliffe and Maconie Show on BBC 6 Music on Friday 10 February (probably around 3pm) to hear Chris Hewitt give 6Music's Elizabeth Alker a tour of the Kenion St Music Building in Rochdale. This was home for many years to Cargo Studios, Tractor Music and Suite 16 Studios and which bore witness to many Factory and other bands' recording activities (most notably Joy Division).

The building is about to be revamped and open as a studio again after 11 years of being empty so this radio documentary is very well timed.

'Thirty One' is a compilation of Manchester-made music which is released on Factory Foundation Records 13 February 2012 featuring rare and exclusive songs by Elbow, Everything Everything, Delphic, The Whip, I Am Kloot, D/R/U/G/S, Murkage, Bad Lieutenant, Mr Scruff, Lonelady, and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.

Curated and compiled by DJ/writer Dave Haslam and with art direction by Peter Saville all proceeds from the sale of downloads, CD's and limited edition vinyl will go to CALM (the Campaign Against Living Miserably).

Suicide is the single biggest killer of men under the age of 35 in the UK and CALM is a registered UK charity which aims to reduce this and provide support for those suffering from mental illness or depression. Currently the CALM helpline is open 5pm-midnight on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, every week of the year, but, with by donating £7 from every £10 album sold, it is hoped that it can be opened nationwide all 7 nights a week, every day of the year.

FAC 251 The Factory Second Birthday

FAC 251 The Factory celebrates its second birthday this and next weekend with a series of films, gigs, DJ Sets and more.

Part 1 kicks off today Saturday 4 February will a free Rebel Cinema film screening, a first come first served free gig featuring The Covelles and then a club event with Peter Hook, Tim Burgess and Norman Jay.

The second weekend on Saturday 11 February will feature another free gig from Reverend and The Makers followed by Zane Lowe, Doorly, Dave Haslam and the NME Awards Aftershow.

English Black Boys [LTMCD 2568]

LTM has announced details of an X-O-Dus compilation album which features the Dennis Bovell-produced 1980 single FAC 11 'English Black Boys'.

X-O-Dus were discovered by Rob Gretton who invited them to record an extended 12" dub single (replete with Saville-designed sleeve) which had 'See Them A Come' on the b-side. The group disbanded in 1981 without releasing an album so this digitally remastered archive collection with the single plus various unreleased demos is most welcome.

Wishful Thinking

The late Peter 'Sleazy' Christopherson was not only a founder member of Throbbing Gristle and Coil, a designer at Hipgnosis, and a videomaker for Greenback Films but he also designed two sleeves for A Certain Ratio during their early Factory period.

In summer 2010, the AV Festival commissioned him to compose a work for the 2012 spring Equinox, to be staged at Durham Cathedral. Sadly Christopherson died in November 2010 before he could complete the work.

Wishful Thinking is a music, film and performance event in celebratory remembrance of his life and work. It includes the premiere of three performance sketches with Christopherson‘s original collaborators for the commission: visual artist Alex Rose, sound recordist Chris Watson (ex-Cabaret Voltaire) and vocalist Attila Csihar plus TG's Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti premiering new live remixes.

Wishful Thinking: In Remembrance Of Peter Christopherson (1955–2010) is at the Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle on 17 March 2012. Tickets priced £20 Stalls / £22.50 Circle are on sale now.

The Factory Records Catalogue

After something of a hiatus (yep, I think 3 years counts), work has resumed on The Factory Records Catalogue, a project to present the catalogues of Factory Communications Ltd and all subsidiaries in a definitive, fully cross-referenced format has well and truly resumed. The UK (Factory Records) section is nearly finished and after that we will deal with Factory Too, Once, F4, Factory Benelux, Factory US, Factory America, Factory Australasia and last but not least, Ikon.

It's taken 3 years to get this far so it won't be completed overnight (and there are no images at all yet) but it should be worth waiting for.

Minny Pops Standstill to Motion competition

To coincide with celebrated ex-FAC band Minny Pops playing their first UK dates in 30 years we are proud to launch a competition to win a copy of the LTM live retrospective album, Standstill To Motion: Live at the Melkweg 19.03.1981. This is a deluxe package including a 16-track bonus DVD, Live in Amsterdam and New York, featuring highlights drawn from performances at Amsterdam's Oktopus club and Film Akademie between 1979 and 1982, as well as legendary New York clubs Hurrah and the Peppermint Lounge. The CD album set has been newly mixed and mastered by Reinier Rietveld (ex-Quando Quango).

In order to get your hands on one of these album all you have to do is answer the following question. What was the first 7" single release on the LTM label in 1984?

Section 25 live Wroclaw Industrial Festival

Section 25 will play the Wroclaw Industrial Festival in Poland on the weekend of 8-11 November 2012. According to Vin Cassiday this represents the furthest east the band have penetrated (the previous record being held by the then West Berlin) so this is very welcome 'pastures new'.

Peter Hook & The Light UK Tour May/Jun 2012

Following a packed programme of UK and international dates during 2011, most recently at The Lowry, Salford, Peter Hook and The Light have announced a new UK tour for May/June 2012. Mostly the gigs will feature the full in-sequence performance of Unknown Pleasures but there will be a London gig featuring Closer. In addition the band will play both Unknown Pleasures and Closer at Buxton Opera House on Saturday 25 February 2012.

Tickets for all shows go on sale from 9am on Friday 16 December 2011.
