See revised HSE information sheets 10 &23 HSE Catering Information Sheet 10 (rev1) & HSE Catering Information Sheet 23 (rev1). Page 3 of CAIS 23 indicates that overrides should not be fitted to new installations -this is in accord with the CESA position on the matter. Where interlocks had been installed with an override function 'the continued use of the override should be determined through a thorough risk assessment of the installation and how it is used'. Materials in Contact with Food - new regulation

The European Commission�s Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health has adopted a new Commission Regulation (EC) No. 2023/2006 on good manufacturing practice for materials and articles intended to come into contact with food. The Regulation was published in the Official Journal (OJ) of the European Union on 29 December 2006 (OJ L384 29.12.2006 p.75-78). It comes into force on 18 January 2007, but does not apply until 1 August 2008. This provides plenty of time for those affected by the Regulation to put measures in place to comply with its requirements. Electrical Wiring - Colour changes effective 31st March 2006

The changes to cable core colours are reflected in a new amendment (Amendment No 2, 2004) to BS 7671:2001, Requirements for Electrical Installations (the 'IEE Wiring Regulations'), formally published on 31 March 2004. This amendment states the new (harmonised) colours and includes guidance for alterations and additions to installations wired in the existing (old) cable colours. EU Energy GreenPaper

Europe should aim to slash 20% off its 2005 energy consumption levels by 2020, according to a draft green paper on energy efficiency expected to be adopted by the European Commission this month. The discussion paper, prepared by energy commissioner Andris Piebalgs and obtained by Environment Daily (see below), says governments should as a first step be obliged to set precise "energy savings targets" in their national programmes to implement the Lisbon strategy for economic growth. General Product Safety Directive - New regulation

The General Product Safety (GPS) Regulations 2005 implement Directive 2001/95/EC and were laid before Parliament by Consumer Minister Gerry Sutcliffe on 6 July 2005. They will enter in to force on 1 October 2005. Until that time the General Product Safety Regulations 1994 will continue, but will then be repealed, as will s10 of the Consumer Protection Act 1987, which will serve no further purpose. The Regulations apply to all products (new or second-hand) used by consumers, whether intended for them or not, and apply a general duty on producers and distributors to only place on the market or supply products that are safe in normal or reasonably foreseeable conditions of use. EuP Directive - Final Text

Here is the EuP Directive - Final Text of directive 2005/32/EC on establishing a framework for the setting of ecodesign requirements for energy-using products and amending Council Directive 92/42/EEC and Directives 96/57/EC and 2000/55/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council as published in the Official Journal of Friday, 22 July 2005. The directive will enter into force on 11 August 2005. Member states will have to bring into force national laws, regulations and administrative provisions to comply with the directive before 11 August 2007.
