Your Hearts Desires in 2012!

Psalm 37:1-7 <A Psalm of David.> Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
3<sup> </sup>Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. {verily: Heb. in truth, or, stableness}
4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.
7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
There are (5) five words in these (7) seven verses we’re going to focus on today that if we do this we will reap great blessing in our lives.
The first is fret not! The first thing David says is to fret not!
Fret not means to burn with anger, to become furious over people who injure others or be envious of people who take advantage of people for their own gain!
In short David says don’t envy the prosperity of the wicked!
We must keep ourselves in the mindset of love!
Next David says Trust in The LORD!
Trust means to have total confidence in, feel safe and secure in His hands! Keep doing righteous deeds and you will live safely in the land and prosper.
Then David says to Delight in The LORD! It means to taste and enjoy! The image here is to learn to enjoy the journey God has us on even when we don’t understand or feel uncomfortable!
Anything we delight in we can’t get enough of and keep returning to!
David says when we do this God gives us the desires of our heart! Why? I believe because the desire of God’s heart is us and when we give ourselves completely to Him He gives us our desires!
You see God doesn’t want our money, our hand claps or our dances He wants our heart—with our money, praise & dance!
Because where our treasure is that’s where our hearts are also!
Deuteronomy 4:29 But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.
Matthew 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
Next David says to Commit! Commit means to roll over and join in with God’s purposes, plans and projects! When we join in with God everything we do will succeed, why? Because He is using His power to make it happen!
It has been said that we shouldn’t make plans and ask God to bless them, but rather find out God plan that’s already blessed and join in!
When we make God’s plans our priority He reveals our righteousness to others and people will know we have whole heartily followed God!
Next David says Rest! Rest means not only to wait patiently but also to cease making efforts toward, to stop laboring and relax!
When we fret not, trust, delight and commit to The LORD He will lead us to peace, safety, fulfillment, prosperity and REST!
Hallelujah! Praise God! 2012 promises to be a great year for the righteous!

The Story of His Birth!
Matthew 1:18-21 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. (kjv)

Christmas as a holiday is a combination of paganism and Christianity!

There are some who refuse to recognize Christmas because of this mixture.

I personally believe that as Christians we are not bound to recognize or observe any holiday! The holidays we chose to honor whether Jewish or Christian is totally up to us.

Festivals were so important during the Old Testament that Jews broke fellowship one with another over dates and times of celebration. The early church did the same and sad to say we are not much different today.

There are of course Kwanzaa and Hanukkah which are celebrated during this season by people who have chosen to.

I personally take the Rom 14:5 approach! One man esteemed one day above another: another esteemed every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
6 He who regards one day as special does so to the Lord. He who eats meat, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God.

The point is not the date or time but the heart in which the holiday is honored!
We can still honor God in the midst of Figgie pudding, and Rudolph the Red- nosed Reindeer.

I believe in order for us to honor The Lord Jesus during Christmas our activities should reflect our love for the Lord—through our songs, gatherings and even the presents we chose to buy.

We should include mention of His miraculous birth, after all no one ever has nor will be born of a virgin like our Savior! No other religion dares to make this claim. This is unique to Christianity even non-believers can take note of that fact!

It is our responsibility to remind the world the real reason for the season, Christmas is about the story of His birth and if I choose to remind people of that during Christmas what’s the problem?

1 Thessalonians 5:18 In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

We should be the most thankful people during Christmas, after all His birth, life, death and resurrection is what redeemed us! Praise God!

Jesus is not concerned with Christmas. He told us what to do to commemorate His life! Take Holy Communion!

Luke 22:17 -19 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. (kjv)

If there ever was a season when it’s easy to talk about Jesus it’s during Christmas. So let’s stop complaining and start proclaiming the story of His birth!

A Word From The WordSmith

Don’t Lose It!

Matthew 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

The word lost is an interesting word!

It means wasted, spent in vain, no longer available, astray, away from home, out of circulation and of course defeated!

Jesus praying to The Father about His disciples says:

John 17:12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

The reason none of the disciples were lost accept Judas (and that was to fulfill scripture) was because Jesus kept (guarded/protected) them.

Jesus is The Word of God made flesh! The Word of God watched over the disciples everyday for 3 ½ years.

Matthew 26:31 Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.

Notice what Jesus says next. Matthew 26:32 But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.

You will feel vulnerable and abandoned when they take me and crucify me; but don’t lose it I’ll rise again and see you in Galilee.

Galilee was not a city! The word Galilee means “circuit” or region. It was a region made up of cities, we would say county!

The Word of God will keep us from losing it!

When persecution comes The Word will protect us!

When trails and tribulation comes The Word will direct us!

When fear comes The Word will inject us with faith!

The reason offenses, temptation and trials couldn’t destroy them!

Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

The Word in our lives protects us so we don’t lose it! God watches over His Word to perform it—to make sure it does its job!

Again, John 17:12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

Jesus says while I was with them in the world (around other people in the streets, at the market and in public places) I showed them how to act as a son of God!

I showed them what you would do in every situation!

When people confronted me Jesus says “I never lost it”

I never lost sight of my passion for ministry!

I never lost sight of my purpose for ministry!

I never lost sight of my power in ministry!

Jesus kept the disciples in The NAME! Remember– Proverbs 18:10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.

Matthew 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

The believers are the salt (preservatives, flavor) of the earth if we lose our saltiness (The Holy Spirit, our witness and righteous lifestyle) how can the world come to see and know Jesus?

If we lose it! Throw in the towel, get frustrated and walk away what will happen to the people who watched you for years.

Mark 9:50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

Paul tells his son in the ministry “I never lost it” son!

I was persecuted, lied on talked about! Stoned, snake bit and ship wrecked! But I never lost it—I kept the faith!

8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Words From The Word Smith

The Unity of The Spirit is vital for the church of Jesus Christ to move forward and accomplish God’s kingdom agenda!

Without unity we are circling the wagons and beating the wind! Unity generates power and power produces force that keeps faith active! We know faith without works or that is inactive is dead being alone or by itself!

The Unity of The Spirit bands our faith together preventing it from being alone, inactive and ineffective!

Paul writes in Ephesians 4:1-3 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

Paul exhorts the church in Ephesus who was made up of both Jews and Gentiles as much of the early church was at that time. There were obvious cultural as well as theological differences that each group had!

But what bound them together was their faith in Jesus Christ and the fact that God gave both groups the Holy Spirit!

God gave this revelation to Peter first in Caesarea at Cornelius house Acts 10:44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

Peter asks can anyone deny the Gentiles be united with us since God has saw fit to include them in the Body of Christ by giving them the same Holy Spirit as we! God decided not man; if it were left up to man at that time doctrinal differences and religious practices would surely have kept Jew and Gentile from being united!

But notice even after God had began to unify the church there were still people, leaders in the church who resisted!

Acts 11:1-3 And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.
2 And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,
3 Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.

It was as the bible says apostles and brothers of the church that resisted the unity God was bringing to the church.

Notice the challenge of the super-apostles and saints in Jerusalem; they contended (to separate, discriminate and make a distinction).

These great men of God immediately began to make a difference between the Gentile believers and Jewish believers. Thereby hindering the unity The Holy Spirit was bringing to the Body of Christ!

Acts 15:1 Some men came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the brothers: “Unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved.”
2 This led to disagreement, and after Paul and Barnabas had a long argument with these men it was decided that Paul and Barnabas and others of the church should go up to Jerusalem and discuss the question with the apostles and elders.

Acts 15:5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.

Again some men the bible says began teaching the brothers “unless a person is circumcised they cannot be saved.” What God has joined let no man divide! Where did these men get this doctrine from? When God had already united Jew and Gentile by giving His Holy Spirit!

The scripture uses the word sect to describe the group who held to the teaching without circumcision one cannot be saved!

The word sect here is the Greek word (hi-re-sis) where we get the word heresy from meaning to separate.

It was considered heresy, a separating of the church to teach anything that disrupted the unity the Holy Spirit already began in the church!

So the apostle under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit tells the church to endeavor (make every effort, to exert oneself and be diligent about) keeping/guarding the state God placed the church in from the beginning!

May we work more diligently to keep together what God has united, His glorious church!

“Moving Forward” is the Theme in 2011 for Christian Faith Fellowship Church Zion and all who embrace us!

Movement is a divine aspect of creation not everything God created has the ability of locomotion.

Locomotion is the ability to move from one place to another, man not only has the ability to move he can change the very course of his life, his purpose and destiny.

No other creature on earth has this ability! As Christians we learn though scripture the way to truly move forward because all movement is not good movement.

It has been said that before a person can know where to go they must first learn where they have come from.

Just after the creation of man God plants a gardeneastward in Eden!

God has finished recreating the heavens and the earth which God said was all good. Then God proceeds to create a place on the good/perfect earth called Eden.

Eden means “pleasure or place of pleasure” it has been called the garden of God (Ezekiel 28:13) and the garden of The LORD (Isaiah 51:3).

Garden means “enclosure” it is a plot of ground protected by a wall or hedge. So God placed man whom He formed and created in a place of pleasure surrounded by walls or a beautiful protected place.

But now let’s not forget the bible describes Eden as the garden of God not the garden of Adam! It seems to be a place God created especially for Himself and Adam was as much a part of the beauty of Eden as any other beautiful thing in the garden.

Gardens are planted on purpose by those who have them! They place the most beautiful living things they can find in their gardens to enjoy whenever they choose. This is exactly what the LORD did in Eden.

We must understand that Adam in his perfect state was a thing of beauty, a total master piece, there was nothing on earth that compared to him. Adam was the crown of creation, the apex of all life on earth; having a garden without him in it would be pointless!

So after God planted (established on purpose)! There were certain life forms in Eden that God picked specifically to be in the garden. In other words every plant on earth wasn’t in the Garden of Eden.

God planted this garden eastward! Why eastward? What is the significance? In the bible ancient cultures oriented themselves (faced) the east. Even ancient maps up to the middle ages placed the east, not the north at the top.

Israel’s tabernacle and Solomon’s temple face the east; even Muslims pray facing east! The belief is that blessings and rest come from the east.

The direction one faces points to origin not destination, a fact confirmed by the meaning of the words past and future. Which are related and originate from east and west?

The past (east) are the days in front or before, while the future are the days behind or afterward! We walk by faith backwards facing the east (our past) moving west into our future toward our destiny in God!

What is the significance of all this? Ecclesiastes 1:9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

Understanding there was a garden in our past causes me to know there is a garden in my future!

Because the very thing God did in the past is the very thing He will do in the future! This is why Paul says in Phil 3:13forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.

What are we to forget? Everything the devil did to steal, kill and destroy us! Not the things God has done in our lives—not that He saved us, healed us and delivered us. Not that He parted the Red Sea, not that He planted a garden, not that we were created in His image.

Your real past is not a broken home, divorce, poverty and or prison! Your real past is a beautiful garden where God gave you personal attention!

This is what the devil wants us to forget! He wants us to remember how poorly we’ve been treated, how we were abused, rejected and neglected!

Our minds must be renewed so we can walk backwards (by faith) blindly into our future destiny in Christ Jesus!

What did God tell Moses when Moses asked to see His glory?Exodus 33:20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

Remember the face is the origin, the past or the beginning! God says no one can see my origin, past or beginning—since God has no beginning we would die or finite minds could not grasp it!

So God tells Moses in Exodus 33:23 …thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen. What is coming—the future glory of the kingdom of God in Christ Jesus!

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of The LORD a song by William Steffe written in 1856 in camp meeting style revivals that eventually became known as the “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and also quoted by Dr. Martin Luther King during his famous “I have a dream” speech.

NIV Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
