Cuando los machos emergen del pupario como adultos su cabeza es normal, entonces, mediante presión de líquido empiezan a proyectar su cabeza hacia los lados. Los machos más fuertes logran una expansión mayor y se supone que las hembras favorecen a tales individuos para la reproducción. Los 17&lt;sup&gt;2&lt;/sup&gt; dólares de premio que ofrecía en su momento, por cierto, siguen pendientes de que alguien sea capaz de resolverlo.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;El reto original de Gasarch, es conseguir una cuadrícula de 17x17 con cuatro colores de tal forma que ningún rectángulo tenga las cuatro esquinas del mismo color.
