ABQ Now preview

The Albuquerque Museum of Art and History is hosting a large survey of selected local artists titled ABQ Now. A piece from my new body of work, RECESS, will be on display during the second half of the exhibition from Jan. 24th - April 18th.

This piece is presently untitled. It's an automated sentry with an improvised 12 Gauge shotgun. The sculpture tracks the largest moving target in the gallery and fires at will.

Albuquerque Now: Winter will host a public reception from 7-9pm on Sat. Jan 23rd.

When you're ready to lose

Fear is not the enemy. The sharpest moments of clarity I have experienced, continuously follow situations threatening incredible loss. Hardwired, savage "wake the fuck up" moments chase fear for the loss of my life, mobility, status, comfort, personal health, and the health of my loved ones. Today I am moved.

Is each year another precarious layer on the house of cards? Can I continue to afford to play to win? Wisdom does come with age...but at the price of quiet terror. Perhaps this unsettling thirty-sense is something I can choose to ignore? Tomorrow marks the beginning of a new chapter, and the first line reeks of optimism.

David is the visual arts program education director at Working Classroom, founding director of the former Donkey Gallery, and he just launched a new Blog at milkwax.com

The Milk Wax is a great mix of art/music/interviews/and all things worth a read and an RSS subscription. I am honored and flattered he's got me linked.

A second bit of internet awesomeness I'd like to highlight is Ben Meisner's new web identity at benjaminmeisner.com. Ben uses a graphic sensibility in his work that speaks volumes so quietly you'll have to listen with your heart. Fortunately for all of us, he built his sight with nice big images on which to feast. The piece to the right is graphite on paper, 2009. Thanks Ben.

tabitha rests

My cat died today and I am devastated.

Before meeting Tabitha 6 years ago I really didn't care for cats at all. I've just always been a dog person. When my dog first met her, he tried to bite her head off (literally). In the following years, she's won us both over such that today, as diabetes stole her from us, we cried together.

Tabitha was 15 at the time of her death. She is (and will always be) remembered by her mother Sara, her adopted father Chad, and brother-of-another-species Jackson. We will miss you forever sweet kitty. Your love knew no bounds.
