I've tried similar experiments. Blogs lately have been the best place to speak out on anything while the social networks can be treated more like the coffee shop across the street, or it can be used as the discussion medium for your blog. It's all in how you push your blog out to the networks if you want them integrated I think...

Good thoughtful post!

The way I see it, Haim is that after about 3 months your phone is already outdated. I got the Droid original a while back and have been happy as can be with it. Yes, now there is the Droid Incredible, now Droid X about to launch and they do have better specs. But, FroYo is coming to the droid. Maybe Gingerbread? thats to be seen.

The constant Os updates and Os 'fragmentation' issues were brought to light at Google's I/O conference a couple weeks ago. The developers acknowleged the fragmentation of Os's and cited it as a cost of growing so exponentially in very little time. Google plans moving forward to issue a yearly Os update. So theoretically, if Google were to do a yearly update it would make a phone you bought on a 2 yr plan last though the entire cycle with all upgrades.

My 2 cents, just stick it out with 2 years. Being a techie, there's always going to be that want and desire for the latest and greatest phone. But, you as I, have a morgage. :)

Lastly,
The android platform is just taking off in leaps and bounds, the iphone 4 was a HUGE disappointment. What killer features are there? A pretty new screen with crackable glass? No signal when you hold your phone to talk? Android is def the way to go, the cost of constant upgrades comes with the territory to have the 'best, latest and greatest'.

A Response to Mr. Steven Derion,

Mr. Derion,

Thank you for chosing a noble profession and sacrificing on behalf of the children you teach.
The unfortunate reality is that teachers are underpaid.
The underlying problem is as follows:

Education is not a for profit business. It is "socialized".
Education is run by the government (The U.S. Department of Education did not exist prior to 1976 - it was another level of bloated beuracracy created by Jimmy Carter to payback the teacher's unions).
The next problem is the unions - unions eliminate competition and everything operates acording to the least common denominator - they also cause the teachers, schools, and governments to demonize each other (they have to - if everyone trusted each other they would not have a job - they have to keep the hate going).

So, in a nutshell - you are a great person doing a great job stuck in a government sponsored / lawyer led system.

Unitl education is out of the hands of the government and lawyers and conforms to the ideals of capitalism - it is doomed to fail.

In capitalism great performance is rewarded and ineffectiveness is punished.
Those who do better and do more earn more.

You sir, are not the enmy.
The system in which you are trapped is the enemy - the government and the unions are the enemy - all mostly lawyers by the way.

God Bless You,

Justin Cohen

I'm not sure why Haim @ replied me in his post. It's not twitter. It does not show up special in some feed somewhere.

I think also when he wrote this, Haim misunderstood what my HTPC setup was. I currently have an Acer Aspire Revo AR3610. This is a nettop, 2gb ram of ram with a dual core atom processor, 64 bit. Built in wireless N, came with a wireless keyboard and mouse too. It even supports HDMI out, and the display is great on my TV.

I use an antenna, no cable service other than internet. I made the decision because I am single and don't have a wife who may want cable. I didn't need cable. Yes, it's part to save some money.

And no, I'm not watching the oscars. So I can't say who will win.

@Mazzie, you are right. There is a barrier to entry, but I want to set the example. You may be able to add a period to your email, and twitter (and google) will see it as another unique email. I actually really like the idea behind gowalla and foursquare (currently use gowalla more). But I really don't need to know that you are in starbucks in east nowhere, kentucky. Moving it to another account with all the other auto posters lets me choose; and choice is what drives this country.

@John, I think you are right. I also want to mention that so far comments are working. I don't like the fact that I have to approve the first one, but it may be a necessary evil to avoid spam bots.

Chaim, listen, I understand that you want to be different, but for all intents and purposes, you really are the biggest social network "whore" that I know. Now, some people may think that comes off a bit rude, but it's not, and it's not meant to be. Literally, I hear about new social networks from Chaim, and usually with the message "Are you going to join xyz?" At that point I find out that Chaim is already a member and trying it. Maybe the issue is that people as a whole need to try something and it looks cool, but there's really no reason to try something new?

I still stand by my belief that social networks will again consolidate, similar to how everyone hates myspace at this point.
