Important update from Changing Minds

To all clients and trainee counsellors:

First of all we would like to thank you for all your support of and confidence in the Changing Minds project to date.

As some of you are aware we have recently had a very positive evaluation of the service and the recommendations in the report include the appointment of a Clinical Director. The Steering Committee are in the process of finding this person and feel that until such an appointment is made the service should be suspended from this week. (Last session Thursday 13th May).

If any of you wish to maintain your contact with your client/trainee counsellor it is of course an option you may take up by mutual consent. However please note that the facilities provided by the Changing Minds project and the Galway Peoples' Resource Centre will no longer be available to you.

We fully intend to restart the Service in the Autumn and would ask for your patience until then.

Please ensure that we have your current contact details so that we can keep you informed of our progress and any future events.

Changing Minds Steering Committee

Galway Peoples' Resource Centre (GPRC)

In Attendance: Dave Barry, Anji O'Donnell, Charlie Currie, Margaret Cullinane, Elaine Harvey.
Apologies: David Barry

The following points were unanimously agreed:

1) The Changing Minds Drop in service will be suspended until the Autumn or until such time as a Clinical Director is in place.
2) This message will be conveyed to all Steering Committee members, trainee counsellors and clients at the final sessions on Monday 10th May and Thursday 13th May. Elaine will produce a document to be handed to trainee counsellors and clients.
3) No new trainee counsellors or clients can be enrolled until point 1) is completed.
4) All existing records of both clients and administrative/financial matters will be brought into the GPRC where they will be kept in a secure cabinet.
5) Existing trainee counsellors may continue to see clients outside the GPRC and distinct from the Changing Minds project by their mutual consent.
6) Steering Committee members may not recruit or advise potential clients under the auspices of the Changing Minds project until point 1) has been completed.

The next meeting of the Steering Committee will take place on Monday 31st May 2010 @ 11:00am in the Galway Peoples' Resource Centre.
