Local Photograpers Celebrate Hastings & 1066 Country At The Hastings Information Centre

We are very excited to announce that we have our first ever Channel Hastings Photo Display at The Hastings Information Centre. The display showcases a wide and diverse selection of photos taken in Hastings and 1066 Country. The Photo Display opened on Monday 14 July and runs for four weeks until Sunday 17 August. The display can be found just inside the main entrance on the right-hand side.

Please pop down to have a look and let us know what you think.

And don’t miss Andy Wilson’s ‘1066 by the sea, with a £5 camera’ set on the top left display board!

Meet Mahomet

One of the great things that I love about these Channel Hastings Photo Challenges is that it gives me the opportunity to hook up with local people and visitors to Hastings and St Leonards.

This is a shot of Mahomet who is a student at Embassy Language School in St Leonards.

I spotted his 'red, white & blue' clothing and I couldn't resist asking him for an impromptu photoshoot on the lower promenade of the Marina.

He was totally cool about the whole thing.

He comes from the United Arab Emirates so it was a great opportunity for me to take a quick trip down memory lane as I used to live in the Middle East and I've travelled to the UAE as well (Dubai and Abu Dhabi).

I tried out my pigeon Arabic and it seemed to go down quite well...although I got stuck when trying out 'red, white and blue' in Arabic.

Anyway, here's the shot and my first entry to July's 'The Colours Red, White and Blue' challenge!

Tezzr At The Tate?

Just submitted a couple of shots to the Tate Modern’s Street or Studio group on Flickr.

It's great to see some local entries popping up on the Street or Studio group and on the Tate's Street and Studio Flickr page!

Submissions are open until July 27th. Would be great to see some more local entries!

Street & Style: An Urban History of Photography

We’re super-happy to be working with Tate again this year. Tate are giving Flickr members the opportunity to get involved with their new exhibition Street & Studio: An Urban History of Photography, which focuses on international photographic portraiture taken on the street or in the photographer’s studio.

You are all invited to contribute your own urban portrait photography in Tate Modern’s Street or Studio group on Flickr. Photos from the group will be displayed on a screen in Tate Modern and on the exhibition website. In the final weeks of the exhibition, some very fine judges will select 100 photographs to be featured in a Street or Studio photobook (which will be produced by our friends at Blurb). As a thank you, all the photographers chosen will receive a copy of the book, which will also be available for purchase through the Blurb website.

The Street or Studio group will be open for submissions until July 27th, and the exhibition runs until August 31st.

Andy seems to have an uncanny knack of opening challenges with great shots...often while walking back to his car after the previous 'Photo Vote'!

Invitation to Private View at Imagen Gallery

Very exciting local news here with three Channel Hastings flickrites being asked by a local gallery to display their work at a forthcoming exhibition.

I mentioned this in this week's Channel Hastings newsletter but if you missed it here it is again:

All Channel Hastings Flickr members and supporters are warmly invited to attend a private view featuring the work of three local Flickrites.

View of an exhibition by locally based photographers Terry Russell, Adam Piggott, Barry Reid and Thor Taylor.

This is a mixed exhibition including stunning local scenes. Come along from 6.30pm and enjoy wine and light refreshments.

The Imagen Gallery is at the Britannia Enterprise Centre Waterworks Road (near Morrisons)
Private View Friday 28 March from 6.30pm onwards.
The Exhibition runs from 29th March to 11th April. If you can make the Private View please RSVP Imagen on 01424 447518 (Tue - Sat)
