“Choosing Raymond to cover our Wedding was one of the best decisions we made. We were quite confident about our choice early on as we had already seen what beautiful photos he clicks looking at his previous assignments. We were a little worried about his schedule though as this would be an international shoot, but our worries were put to rest as Raymond was very accommodating.

We were very impressed by his professionalism as he came to the venue on Day 1, straight after a fifteen hour flight to India! His photos captured the mood really well and not a single photograph looked rehearsed.

On Day 2 we had our pre-nup shoot early in the morning. Raymond chose to sacrifice his sleep in order to get the best possible light He made us feel very comfortable and clicked some amazing shots. I plan to have my bedroom wall adorn one of these in poster size soon.

On Day 3, I remember him having blisters on his fingers as those D700?s he carries around are really heavy but that didn’t slow him down. It was the Haldi function and he captured all the right expressions, moods and cultural aspects despite of being in an unfamiliar environment.

Day 4 was the Wedding / Reception and Raymond delivered again capturing all the right stuff – from the makeup, the venue, friends having fun and emotional family moments. After it all ended he even had teasers up on his website and delivered the final result on time.

Raymond is a great person and an amazing photographer. Even though we have looked at the photo slideshow numerous times, it still puts a smile on our faces. Thank you Raymond for giving us something we will treasure for the rest of our lives!”

 

Karan & Snehal

Karan and Snehal’s wedding was a mixture of Maharashtrian & South Indian styled wedding and it was truly my honour to be able to document the wedding in the couple’s preferred photojournalistic style.

There are many genuine, beautiful moments captured over the course of 3 days, but here are a few for a start off!

My thoughts on the lens:

After about a couple of days shooting with the Nikon 14-24mm, I found that the focal range from 14-24mm is a tad too wide for all-round and street photography use for me, but it will be perfect for landscapes and weddings especially in cramped places such as hotel rooms.

Optically, the lens definitely lived up to its hype as the benchmark of all Ultra-Wide Angles and it has delivered a number of sharp photos up to the extreme corners from f4 onwards.

There has been a few misfocus but after a bit more play with the lens, it turned out to be mostly user error.

The distortion and vignetting is much worse than expected, especially at 14mm but definitely much better than the Sigma 10-20 which I had previously. It all comes down to careful framing and placement of your subjects in the viewfinder to avoid extreme distortion.

If you’re in the market for something in this range, another lens worth looking at is the Nikon 16-35mm f4 VR, which is also a very reputable pro-grade Ultra-Wide Angle.

There were easily hundreds of people with their picnic baskets, all sitting down with their family and friends enjoying the brilliant performance from the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra. I personally enjoyed the concert and I’m sure everybody else had a great time too.

I seized the opportunity and quickly snapped away and got these shots:

Like any form of photography, street photography requires practice and committment but as much as I love street photography, I have to honestly say that I haven’t really done much street photography since my recent trip to Malaysia.

Armed with my new 70-200, it definitely wasn’t the preferred choice of lens for street photography due to its size and weight, but I think I pulled it off.

There has just been so much going on since I got back to Perth and I’m in the process of preparing myself for a couple of weddings next month, including my first international wedding photography assignment.

Perhaps it’s just me, but the New Year celebrations in Perth this year just wasn’t quite as entertaining compared to last year.

Nevertheless, here are some selected photos of the performances from the evening taken with my new Nikon 70-200mm lens.

The photos in this post are mostly landscapes with lots of blue skies and beaches and a couple of photojournalism shots as I unfortunately caught a fever during my stay in KK which got progressively worse in Kuching, so the photos were mainly taken whilst recuperating in the islands in KK and Damai resort in Kuching.

All the photos above were taken without a tripod, so some photos in low light didn’t come out as expected. It was just too hard to carry around 6KG worth of gear in a backpack, so a tripod would only slow us down. I do hope you enjoyed this series, nonetheless

There are heaps of photos from the holiday which I would like to upload at some point, but I think these are the ones I will post up for now.

We are now back in Perth after spending three weeks around Malaysia & Singapore and I just can’t wait to share some photos taken during our travel, so here’s the first part of photos taken in Malaysia, namely from Penang & Malacca.

There is a combination of street photography and landscapes and some random photos of things I see during our travel, so there’s something for everyone here.

The year 2011 has had a lot of ups and downs and there have certainly been more ups than downs this year. I’ve managed to establish contacts and made friends with so many beautiful brides and grooms and also their friends and families.

They are both primary school teachers and have met each other in their career. Kyle and Carly are definitely one of the loveliest couples that I’ve been priveleged enough to shoot and I was genuinely happy for the both of them during their wedding day.
