Thanks so much for taking the time and spending time with us here at Chapter by Chapter!

I’m so psyched you want to learn more about Unraveling Eleven. It’s the second book of the Eleven Trilogy—a YA dystopian romance that’s fast-paced and highly entertaining. It’s full of high stakes, big problems, and all the feelings. Not only that, but a lot of important discoveries are made in this book, too. I’m talking bombshell-level secrets pertaining to the compound, to the world aboveground—even to Wren. And, just like in the first book of the Eleven Trilogy…enemies, conflict and heartache abound.
Happy reading!
Jerri

Describe your book in 140 characters or less (like a Tweet)

A heart-pounding descent into darkness, a test of love, and a dangerous battle to discover the secrets of a tyrannical regime.

What was your inspiration for writing this book? Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?

Unraveling Eleven was inspired by a concept, actually—the concept that knowledge can equal power. I wanted to explore how and when that can happen, and what the benefits and drawbacks may be. Knowledge can also be downright dangerous to possess, something that Eve and Wren quickly discover!

Tell us about the main character(s).

Eve, the main character in the Eleven Trilogy, really struggles with her own demons inUnraveling Eleven. Difficult circumstances make her spiral into a dark place, so much so that she risks losing all those she loves most. She even risks becoming the kind of person she abhors. There’s a lot of inner conflict and self-reflection happening behind the scenes in this story, even as she tries to navigate all that’s happening in the compound and aboveground.

Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?

I love so many things about Unraveling Eleven, but one moment that really stands out is when Eve spots the faraway abandoned city. We see how fearless she is, as she decides to go explore it—alone. I also love seeing the remnants of the city through her eyes—something completely unfamiliar to a person like her. And, of course, she makes a pretty epic discovery while there!

Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing? If so, why?

Definitely the most difficult part of Unraveling Eleven to write was when Eve hits rock bottom. Things go really sideways in her fight with Landry, and it leads to major fallout with the person she needs most—Wren. Getting the right tension between these two took a lot of fine-tuning. I was also worried about pushing Eve too far, to the point of her being totally unredeemable, or completely unlikeable—which is not something I wanted to do. In the end, though, I think I got the balance right. Her struggle feels organic, true to the story, and profound—yet we still wind up rooting for her.

What sort of projects do you have going on right now. Any new books coming out?

Right now, I’m working on the third and final book in the Eleven Trilogy. It’s calledEnding Eleven, and it comes out in Fall 2022. It will offer up a pretty explosive conclusion to all things Eleven!

It was great having you on the blog today! We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success!!

Starting with Wren Edelman. The one boy who has taught me that anything is possible if we stick together.

But will that matter if I become the very thing he fears the most?

Thanks so much for taking the time and spending time with us here at Chapter by Chapter!

I’m excited to be here and to talk about the final book in the Garden of Thorns trilogy. I can’t believe the story is finally ending it. It’s very bittersweet.

Describe your book in 140 characters or less (like a Tweet)

With the love her emperor and his army backing her, Rose sets out to liberate her kingdom and finally get revenge for a lifetime of betrayal.

What was your inspiration for writing this book? Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?

Normally, I’ll get ideas from all sorts of places. For this one though, it started with a voice of a girl begging to be freed. I wrote the first few pages before I even knew what was going on about a lonely girl inside a cage who was called a “flower” and knew I had to keep writing her story. It just got bigger from there.

Tell us about the main character(s).

The thing I love about Rose is that while she is driven and determined, she has gone through so much pain and betrayal that she is incredibly flawed. In this book, I liked that she got to make mistakes and continue to try to push through them. Though she’s a rather serious character, she’s an incredibly loyal friend.

The hero, Rayce, is a genuinely sweet and responsible guy. He’s got a streak of roguish humor to him but he is ultimately trying to do what is right for Rose and his people. I love a good bad boy, but I really wanted to portray a kind and thoughtful guy in this series and show they can be just as fun!

Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?

There is a part in this book that I’ve been waiting to write forever, but I can’t share it because it’s a huge spoiler. So instead, I’ll share a less spoiler-y line that comes from a sweet moment between my two main characters. Things have transpired in the last book that had terrible consequences for Rose and Rayce and now they are unable to touch. Considering how head over heels they are for each other, that is causing a lot of issues. I really love this line where Rose is internalizing that struggle.

“Living beside him and not being able to touch him is a curse. Better than not being around him at all, but it still feels hollow. Like loving a ghost.”

Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing? If so, why?

There were quite a few. Every scene felt like a tiny goodbye to these characters that have been with me for ten years. A lot of them are very spoilerish. I guess, I’ll say the ending because as I typed out dialogue for the characters, I knew it was going to be the last thing they would ever say on the page and that felt so strange. With the last two books, I knew I was coming back to those characters and their world and with this one, I was profoundly aware that I wouldn’t be.

What sort of projects do you have going on right now. Any new books coming out?

Currently, I am working on two project simultaneously. I can’t say too much about them but one is a YA historical horror retelling of Peter Pan that re-imagines Wendy as a young nurse and Hook as a notorious serial killer. The other is an adult romance with a plus size heroine who just wants to make the world sparkle.

It was great having you on the blog today! We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success!!

Thank you so much for having me. It’s been a pleasure!

Armed with the brute force of Rayce’s military, Rose sets out to free her people from the oppressive rule of the usurper king who killed her father.

But even if they win, how can she be queen to her homeland and in love with the man ruling its bitter enemy? With her loyalties split between heart and crown, Rose must find a way to do the impossible again…unite two kingdoms at war, or sacrifice half of herself to save the other.

Thanks so much for taking the time and spending time with us here at Chapter by Chapter!

It’s my pleasure! I love hanging out with extraspecialterrestrials like you. I really appreciate you helping me celebrate the release of UNDER THE MILKY WAY.

Describe your book in 140 characters or less

It’s Veronica Mars meets the X-Files when a Colorado teen tries to get to the bottom of spooky, unexplained lights in the sky. UFOs? Oh, no!

What was your inspiration for writing this book? Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?

This book is so dear to my heart because it was partly inspired by my mother’s real-life encounter with UFOs when she was a girl. The idea of visitors from outer space has always fascinated me but terrified me at the same time! In my work as a captioner for the deaf and hearing impaired, I get to watch a lot of TV, including shows about alien encounters. It got me thinking about all the “what ifs.” What if UFOs were real? What if there are aliens from another galaxy – or galaxies – living among us? If so, why? Eventually a cast of characters began to form in my mind, demanding I start writing their story. And in 2015, that’s what I did.

Tell us about the main character(s).

Fiercely independent high school senior Cassidy Roekiem is busy. Busy taking care of her mother, who’s recovering from a breakdown. Busy investigating a missing person’s case that has intrigued millions for decades. Busy keeping up with AP classes plus honing her skills in American Sign Language. Busy with her after-school job. Busy trying to ignore the longing stares from new boy Hayden McGraw because, well, she’s too busy to date anyone, no matter how cute they are. It’s a delicate balance and she’s handling things. Just. Think she’ll finally crumble when UFOs buzz her town? Think again…

Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?

Early in the book, when my characters are getting to know one another, Hayden mentions he’s physically incapable burping.

Thinking he’s kidding around, Cassidy replies, “One day you’re gonna have to prove you’re human like the rest of us.”

To her, it’s a throwaway line. To Hayden, it’s devastating because he can’t prove he’s an ordinary Earthling. And revealing his true self would quite literally mean The End for him.

Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing? If so, why?

As a writer, you know you’re doing an all right job if you laugh and cry buckets of tears along with your characters. They become living, breathing people. Friends, even! I do my best to put myself in their shoes. In UNDER THE MILKY WAY there are a number of occasions when my characters experience intense physical and emotional pain. I found myself wincing and squirming during these scenes! I felt soooo bad about torturing them on the page!

What sort of projects do you have going on right now. Any new books coming out?

I have a number of projects in the works. One is a follow-up to UNDER THE MILKY WAY, and I’m also outlining a ghost story in the tradition of my debut book, THIS IS YOUR AFTERLIFE. It’s an excuse to spend more time with my characters, really. I miss them!

It was great having you on the blog today! We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success!!

Thank you so much for having me here. Until next time, keep your eyes on the skies!

Thanks so much for taking the time and spending time with us here at Chapter by Chapter!

From Kelly Anne: Hi! Thank you so much for having us back on your blog! We are so excited to be here and to have the chance to talk to you about GUTTER GIRL and the TWIN RIVER HIGH Series!

From Lynn: Thank you so much for having us! We are so stoked to be celebrating the first release of the highly anticipated Twin River High series. We’re excited to share all these awesome characters with you guys!!

Describe your book in 140 characters or less (like a Tweet)

Authors: A reclusive Goth Girl surprisingly jumps into the limelight to the aid of a popular jock with a secret & finds love in the most unexpected way.

What was your inspiration for writing this book? Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?

Authors: Lynn and I came up with a number of ideas for the Twin River High books. GUTTER GIRL was one of our favorite ideas because it involved a writer (we love writers, lol!) with a secret, a girl with a tumultuous homelife, and a love story that brings back all of the first love feels!

Tell us about the main character(s).

From Kelly Anne: McKenna Storm has been hands down one of my favorite characters to write! She’s hilarious and blunt, but the only person who knows that is her best friend Ernie. Readers quickly learn that McKenna has been through a lot of emotional turmoil in her life and due to that, she rarely lets anyone get to know the real McKenna Storm. She has dreams and plans for her future, but she can count the people who know about them on one finger. Lastly, and one of my most favorite aspects of McKenna is that she has a dry sense of humor. She is hilarious in a blunt and I-don’t-give-a-crap sorta way!

From Lynn: Jace is a burly football player with a secret. He’s been hiding it from everyone because of the guff he’d get if anyone found out he wrote kissing books (#IsThisAKissingBook). We see a bit of the guff he’d get when super heroine, McKenna Storm, comes in to help him out. Busting through the stereotypes is real, isn’t it?

Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?

From Kelly Anne: I have so many! But one of them is when McKenna and Jace are texting and he’s trying to bribe her into reading KOS. She’s getting frustrated with him and finally texts him and says, “You’re killing me, Swords.” Once you’re into the book and you get to know The Kingdom, this will all make sense! LOL!

From Lynn: I like this line in the story:

She arched an eyebrow and gave me a sarcastic grin. “If I say yes, are you going to pull out your sword?”

McKenna is so sarcastic and witty, I laughed out loud a ton with this story!

Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing? If so, why?

From Kelly Anne: There are a lot of intense emotional scenes between McKenna and her mom. These scenes also spill out into the halls of Twin River High. McKenna is an especially strong character, but everyone has their breaking point. I’m really proud of McKenna and how she handles these moments. She is an incredible girl!

From Lynn: Portraying the struggles McKenna’s mom was facing, which meant McKenna was also facing, were mentally tough. The struggle is real, and then you throw the elements of high school (bullying, stereotypes, etc)… Those parts were emotionally difficult to write.

What sort of projects do you have going on right now. Any new books coming out?

From Kelly: Yes! We have the first three Twin River High books coming out this month (May 2021) as well as CROSSING THE LINE, which is the spin-off sequel to IN THE PENALTY BOX! There are so many amazing characters and we can’t wait to share their stories with you!

From Lynn: Kelly and I are super stoked to have more books coming out together, both through Entangled Publishing and Crazy Maple Studio. Personally, I also have a solo project coming out with Crazy Maple Studio (KISS APP), called Limitless, which should be releasing this summer.

It was great having you on the blog today! We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success!!

From Kelly: Thank you again for having us and cheering us on as we continue our publishing journey! We appreciate you and can’t wait to talk to you again! :)

From Lynn: Thank you so much, Chapter by Chapter, for supporting us and our new releases. We’re thankful for you, and we’re having a blast on the virtual tour!

And lucky for Jace, she later agrees to continue the ruse…for a price.

Heck, he’d give her anything not to reveal his secret. And that’s the way he plans to keep it.

Except suddenly one of the other football players grabs his notebook in jest and starts reading a kissing scene out loud…and Jace knows he’s busted.

But then McKenna Storm, resident goth girl who avoids the spotlight like a virus, snatches up the notebook and tells everyone she’s the author. And lucky for Jace, she later agrees to continue the ruse…for a price.

Heck, he’d give her anything not to reveal his secret. But when they start to fall for each other, he knows he’ll have to keep the biggest secret of all—his darkest character is based on her…

Welcome to our stop during the Incognito by Katie Delahanty blog tour, presented by Entangled Teen!

Katie stops by the blog today for a quick Q&A!

Click on the banner above the check out the rest of the tour.

Thanks so much for taking the time and spending time with us here at Chapter by Chapter!

Thank you for having me! Excited to be here.

Describe your book in 140 characters or less (like a Tweet)

Teen-thieves-with-a-crush are asked to steal the same object and must figure out if they can trust each other while unraveling a plot to re-set history.

What was your inspiration for writing this book? Was it in a dream? A thought while taking a walk?

It was my husband’s idea! Over dinner one night he said, “you should write a book about teenage thieves who are stealing analog history.” Then it was up to me to figure out why they were stealing analog history. He’s great at coming up with concepts and leaving the execution to me.

Tell us about the main character(s).

Elisha is an Influencer who faked her death to hide undercover within the “Disconnects”—a secret society of teenage thieves who are stealing analog history. And Garrett is the irritatingly attractive head thief—Elisha’s rival and match in every way.

Do you have a favorite quote or specific part in the book that you really love?

My favorite part is the “Escape Room” Simulation near the end.

Was there a specific part in the book that you had an especially difficult time writing? If so, why?

I had trouble writing the both the Andy Warhol Museum heist and the bits that take place in the Stanford Steam Tunnels. I had meant to travel to Pittsburgh and Stanford to accurately describe the locations and map out the heists but 2020 prevented that, so I had to rely on Google maps and YouTube.

What sort of projects do you have going on right now. Any new books coming out?

I’m working on an adult rom-com and the third and final book (the title is TBD) in the Keystone Series. It should release in 2022.

It was great having you on the blog today! We hope you’ll decide to stop by again someday, and we wish you much success!!

Thank you! This was fun!

In the virtual utopia of the Simulation, everyone will live peacefully and without fear or needs—at least that’s how they’re selling it. But the government plans to use this program to take control of the entire human race. Elisha Dewitt has just been given her first mission to help prevent this, and she’s ready to prove she can go incognito just as well as any other master thief.

Breaking and entering? No sweat. She’s done worse. Stealing a cassette tape from the museum vaults will be easy—in, out, done—until he shows up…and everything gets way more complicated. Garrett Alexander just has that effect.

Nothing is as it seems, and a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse begins with Garrett, her rival and match in every way. Not knowing who she can trust, Elisha decides it’s up to her to rescue everyone—even Garrett—before the world as she knows it comes to a brutal end.

Katie never knew she was a writer. Her childhood obsessions centered on old movies, costumes, fashion, playing dress up, and books. Lots of books. On her quest to play make believe for a living she decided she wanted to be a fashion designer and after satisfying her practical parents by graduating from UCLA with a BA in Communication Studies she went on to pursue her design dreams with a Professional Designation in Fashion Design from FIDM. She spent five years helping to design romantic dresses that were sold everywhere from Anthropologie to Nordstrom before the economic downturn led to a career shift and that practical degree came in handy. Now in charge of the ecommerce business for In Bloom Lingerie, she was asked to start the company blog. Not knowing what to say about lingerie but needing to use bridal keywords, she decided to start a fictional serial about how a girl named Olivia Bloom, who worked for In Bloom Lingerie, became engaged. And that is when Katie fell in love with storytelling and the path to make believe became clear. She has not looked back since. Katie lives in Los Angeles with her husband.

Cassidy Roekiem is just an average teen girl from Colorado. Her parents are divorced, she has a cliché crush on the hot new boy, and her social life exists solely through the efforts of a well-meaning best friend. Until suddenly her life turns upside down.

First, that “hot new boy,” Hayden, asks her out. And one night when they’re driving through the isolated, winding roads of Saddleback Ridge after dark, something happens that neither one of them can explain…

Bright lights in the middle of the forest. Whole blocks of time they can’t remember. They’re nauseous and disoriented. We’re talking full-on episode of The X-Files. But when her fuzzy mind clears, she’s back home, and so is Hayden. Um, what?

Hayden has always been sweet and caring and fun. But now it’s like he’s hiding something. He knows something, and she can’t be sure who he really is anymore or how everything is connected to her. When it happens again…and again, Cassidy needs answers—and fast—because one of these times, she might not wake up at all.
