A Taft Point wedding in Yosemite National Park is one of the most epic ways to experience the park on your wedding day. It’s one of my favorite locations for couples to see the a 3000 ft. sheer cliff drop. Taft Point sits along the south rim of Yosemite Valley and is known for its open cliff edge and clear sight lines into the valley below. Couples choose this location because it is easily accessible for most, visually stunning from the forest trail to the views, and feels removed without being difficult to reach. Katie and Reece married this day and wanted some epic photos at this location. It was a beautiful day.

Taft Point Location and Light

The hike to Taft Point is 2.2-2.4 miles round trip on a mostly flat forest trail until the last the last portion where it drops downhill. The walk moves through tall pines and granite terrain and works well for small wedding groups and elopements. As a Yosemite wedding photographer, I help couples plan timing, permits, and logistics so the hike and ceremony flow naturally and stay within park guidelines.

From Taft Point, you can see Yosemite Falls across the canyon and El Capitan rising from the valley floor. The meadows below create depth and separation that photograph cleanly in both wide and intimate frames. Mt. Shasta Resort is hands down one of my favorite spots for Mount Shasta Resort weddings. There is something beautiful and spiritual about photographing couples in Sedona. Maybe it is the way the red rock glows during sunrise when the world still feels quiet and full of promise. Maybe it is the way the sun sets behind the cliffs and fills every corner of the desert with golden light. Or maybe it is simply the joy of hiking out to an overlook with two people who are in love and ready to start a life together. Whatever it is I have fallen in love with capturing these moments for adventurous couples. Here Nitzham and Steph eloped at Cathedral Rock.

As a Sedona wedding and adventure elopement photographer I spend a lot of my time exploring trails and hidden pockets of the desert so I can help my couples find the perfect location. Whether we are hiking to a viewpoint before sunrise or wandering to a cliff edge during sunset I am always in awe of this landscape. It never looks exactly the same twice specially with the changing light. That is part of the magic of Sedona elopements. Every experience feels personal and full of light and emotion.

Some of the most popular trails for elopement couples are Cathedral Rock, Bell Rock, Courthouse Vista, and the beautiful trail that leads out to Doe Mountain. And although I have hiked to Devils Bridge, I’d love to take a wedding couple there for some next wedding trips. Cathedral Rock is a favorite for couples who want dramatic views and warm sunset  and sunrise colors that wrap everything in light. Bell Rock offers an easygoing trail with amazing views that work beautifully for intimate ceremonies. And then there is Doe Mountain which is perfect for couples who want sweeping panoramic views without a strenuous climb.

I love guiding couples along these trails. We take our time enjoying each step of the adventure and pausing whenever the light hits just right.
