New York Knickerbockers President of Basketball Operations Donnie Walsh announced today that the team has signed guard Raymond Felton as a free agent. As per club policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

“Raymond is a top point guard and someone we targeted during the free agency period,” Walsh said. “He is an all-around player, excelling on both sides of the court and a true professional.”

Felton, 6-1, 198-pounds, has career averages of 13.3 points, 6.4 assists, 1.42 steals and 34.9 minutes in 399 career games (369 starts) in five NBA seasons with the Charlotte Bobcats. The Marion, SC-native was drafted by Charlotte, following his junior season at the University of North Carolina, with the fifth overall selection in the 2005 NBA Draft and has played in at least 78 games in all five NBA seasons. In 2009-10, Felton averaged 12.1 points, 5.6 assists (19th in the NBA), 1.54 steals (15th) and 33.0 minutes in 80 games (80 starts) in leading Charlotte to their first playoff appearance in franchise history.

“Donnie deserves a tremendous amount of credit for all the long hours he has put towards re-shaping our roster and signing Raymond gives us a good veteran point guard who should be a great fit for us,” Head Coach Mike D’Antoni said. “I think our system will highlight his numerous skills and that he will give us leadership and toughness at one of the most important positions on the floor.”

Felton had a standout career at North Carolina and became the first player in the Tar Heels’ storied history to record 1,000 points, 600 assists, 300 rebounds, 150 steals and 100 three-point field goals. He quarterbacked North Carolina to the 2005 NCAA title and was named to the all-tournament team. He also set North Carolina’s single-game records for assists (18) and three-point field goals made (eight) while on campus in Chapel Hill.

Bobcats coach Larry Brown has denied a report that appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer that he’ll soon leave the Bobcats for the 76ers.

The report claimed that Brown would leave Charlotte once the team was eliminated from the playoffs which happened on Monday night when the Magic finished the them off winning 99-90 taking the series to a 4-0 win.

Brown was first linked to the 76ers back in March and a Yahoo! report on Monday linked him to the franchise as well.

“I think I’ve answered that for the last two months,” Brown said when asked to comment on the reports. “I’m not coaching anywhere but Charlotte.”

He went on to say that he’ll discuss his future with his family after the season.

“Now, am I going to talk to my family and talk to Michael? Absolutely,” said Brown. “But I’m not coaching anywhere but for Michael if he’ll have me.”

Michael Jordan’s Charlotte Bobcats were the first team to be knocked out of the NBA Playoffs last night after losing 99-90 to the Orlando Magic which saw them take the series 4-0. It’s a massive achievement for the Bobcats, who were founded in 2004.

The Bobcats who were playing at home, led by two points at half time but were unable to hold onto the game in the second half as the Magic were just too good. Tryus Thomas scored 21 points and All Star forward Gerald Wallace chipped in 17 points to keep the Bobcats in with a chance of taking the game. Vince Carter was on fire with 21 points and the Bobcats couldn’t breakdown the Magic.

The Magic will now be able to rest and get themselves ready for the semi-finals.

In front of a boisterous, hostile crowd and facing a team in desperation mode, the Orlando Magic showcased their depth, grit and poise when it mattered most.

No Dwight Howard, no problem for the Magic, who got 32 points from sudden star Jameer Nelson to overcome another frustrating, foul-filled game by their big man in a 90-86 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats on Saturday.

Spoiling Charlotte’s return to the playoff stage after an eight-year absence, the Magic took a commanding 3-0 lead in their first-round series despite being without Howard for the final 3:32 after he fouled out.

Lewis shot 4-for-11 from the field playing with a sore left ankle. … Chandler and Orlando’s Matt Barnes and Gortat also picked up technical fouls. The crowd of 19,596 was the largest to see the Bobcats in Charlotte’s five-year-old arena. Orlando committed 21 turnovers to Charlotte’s 15.

Vince Carter scored 19 points and the Magic overcame foul trouble to Dwight Howard and beat Charlotte, 92-77, in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.

Howard finished the game with 15 points and nine rebounds for the second-seeded Magic, who won the opener, 98-89, on Sunday. Jameer Nelson and Rashard Lewis both scored 13 points and Matt Barnes ended with 11 in the win.

The Bobcats were behind from the off, Stephen Jackson showed no effects from his left knee injury to score 27 points, and Gerald Wallace had 15 points for the Bobcats. But their 21 turnovers are the main reason why they’re heading home still searching for the franchise’s first playoff win.

Game 3 in the best-of-seven series is Saturday in Charlotte.
