Welcome back to Fifty-Two on Friday, a 52 week project where super talented pet photographers from all over the world collaborate on a different theme each week for a year in order to push our creative photographic limits. This week’s theme is “April Showers Bring May Flowers”. Spring has finally arrived here and all of the flowers are beautiful! We still have some cold windy days here and there, but summer will be here before we know it! Here’s my baby Seren, enjoying the nice weather!

This week’s theme is “Tryptych”. A Tryptych is a set of 3 photos normally based on the same theme and are great for decorating the walls at home. I used Simba’s session as my inspiration.

Last year, Maryann of Muse Designworks won a Teacup Session at the Project Animal Worldwide Annual Sato Reunion. I couldn’t be happier that she won, because she used her awesome graphic design skills to help design the layout for our Spirit of the Sato 2013 Calendar. It’s been crazy with the weather this past year, so we finally got around to doing a photo shoot this weekend. Meet 18 year old Simba, king of the bedroom and a total sweetheart!

Zoe was showing off for the camera, so I just had to sneak in a shot!

After awhile, Simba had enough of being a model and began to doze off.

I got to choose this week’s theme and I decided on Love since Valentine’s Day just passed. I was so happy that it finally snowed because I got to photograph Huskies in the snow with red heart balloons!

Turner & Fenway

I’m finally catching up on my blogging, I’ve been a busy bee working on my some new projects that I can’t wait to share in the coming months!

My last session of the year back in December was with Turner the Black Lab and Fenway the Golden Retriever. With two high energy dogs, this definitely has been my most challenging session to date, especially when trying to photograph them both together. But with patience, Photoshop and a whole lot of pictures we were able to pull it off. Enjoy!

Fifty-Two on Friday – “New Technique” (50/52)

This week’s theme is “New Technique”. For this week’s assignment for my new technique, I attempted to try HDR Photography. HDR stands for high dynamic range and is a range of methods to provide higher dynamic range from the imaging process. Non-HDR cameras take pictures at one exposure level with a limited contrast range. This results in the loss of detail in bright or dark areas of a picture, depending on whether the camera had a low or high exposure setting. HDR compensates for this loss of detail by taking multiple pictures at different exposure levels and intelligently stitching them together to produce a picture that is representative in both dark and bright areas. HDR is also commonly used to refer to display of images derived from HDR imaging in a way that exaggerates contrast for artistic effect. I tried to implement HDR for the artistic effect without going too overboard with it.

Scruffy | Miniature Schnauzer mix

Scruffy was the winner of the Teacup session drawing a few of months ago at Cherrybrook Pet Supply store in Garwood, NJ. Due to bad weather, we had to reschedule, but we finally got a chance to do his photo session a few weeks ago. Here’s a sneak peek of the most adorable Miniature Schnauzer mix I’ve ever met!
