To All Frankfort Avenue Businesses and Residents from Stilz to Haldeman Avenue:

This is to notify you that the 2009 Frankfort Avenue Easter Parade will be this Saturday April 11th, from appropriately 11:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Both lanes of Frankfort Avenue will be closed to traffic from approximately 10:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. from Stilz Avenue to Haldeman Avenue for the safety of the children involved. There will be no parking on the street at that time and the side streets will be closed to Frankfort Avenue as well. Police will TOW! Also Kennedy Avenue from Grinstead to Frankfort Avenue, Crescent Court around the court and Crescent Ave. from English to Frankfort will be closed to thru traffic during line -up from approx. 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. “No parking, special events” signs will be posted this Friday. We understand what an inconvenience this may be to the residents and to customers, but the benefits to the neighborhood greatly surpass an hour and 1/2 of inconvenience; just check out the children’s faces as they pass!
Your customers, friends and relatives will be able to use Grinstead Drive, Brownsboro Road, Payne Street and the side streets as alternate routes. Please invite your friends, families, customers and clients to watch and /or participate in this fabulous event (and get in on lots of free candy!) then stay to check out the unique mix of businesses on the “Avenue to the City”. Frankfort Avenue celebrates MARDI GRAS N’AWLINS style

Mellwood to Host Mardi Gras Ball, Kaviar Forge to Host Fire Breather and Forging Demos. Historic Frankfort Avenue will host a Mardi Gras-themed F.A.T. Friday Trolley Hop on Friday, January 30th from 6:00pm to 10:30pm. The highlight of the evening will be the Mardi Gras Ball, which will be held from 8:00pm to midnight at the Mellwood Art Center and sponsored by Margaret’s Consignment. The Ball will include Reva Deveraux as MC, dancing to the Cajun sounds of Crushed Velvet, a best mask contest, and door prizes including a trip for two to New Orleans. Admission to the Ball is only $3, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the United Crescent Hill Ministries.

Additional activities happening during the F.A.T. Friday Trolley Hop on January 30^th are:

Kaviar Forge & Gallery, located at 1718 Frankfort Avenue, will host free fire-breathing performances by Aaron Morris at 7:00pm and 8:00pm, and a live, free forging demonstration by Craig Kaviar at 7:30pm.
Eyedia, located at1631 North Mellwood Avenue, will have a beading event (demonstration with hands on opportunity and free mardi gras beads for all), in cooperation with Katherine Autin from EYECANDY (a beading shop), from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. Refreshments will be served and Katherine will return on Saturday the 31^st from 10:30am to noon to do more beading!
Many of the retail shops, galleries and restaurants along the Avenue will feature live entertainment, and food and drinks specials.

The F.A.T. Friday Trolley Hop, on the last Friday of each month, provides FREE parking and transportation to participating shops, restaurants and galleries along the Frankfort, Mellwood and Story Avenue corridor. Transportation is provided by TARC.

F.A.T. Friday Trolley Hops are sponsored by Anheuser-Busch, Maker’s Mark, Sonoma-Cutrer Vineyards and the Mellwood Arts & Entertainment Center, along with 30 local sponsoring businesses on Frankfort, Mellwood and Story Avenues. Transportation is provided by TARC. For more information about specific F.A.T. Friday events, the trolley schedule, and the participating businesses, please visit www.fatfridayhop.org.

Mayor’s Community Conversations Continue in 2009

Mayor Jerry Abramson announced that his monthly meetings designed to make city government accessible to citizens will continue in 2009. The first “Mayor’s Community Conversations” is scheduled for Monday, January 26, beginning at 6:30 p.m., at Westport Middle School gym, 8100 Westport Road.

At Mayor’s Community Conversations, Abramson, along with department directors from most Metro Government agencies, Metro Council members and other government representatives are available to meet one-on-one with citizens and answer questions about any issues and concerns. MetroCall’s customer-service representatives also attend to log citizen requests into city government’s tracking system to ensure timely follow up and response.

“Community Conversations are a great opportunity for citizens to bring their suggestions and concerns directly to me, the department directors that report to me and to Metro Council members,” Abramson said. “With the economic challenges we all face, it’s more important than ever that residents can connect with the services and information they need from city government.”

Since the Mayor’s Community Conversations began in 2003, thousands of citizens have attended the monthly sessions to discuss topics ranging from planning and zoning, drainage, and crime prevention to parks, retail development and animal regulations.

Special accommodations are available, by calling MetroCall 311 or 574-5000 in advance.

Community Conversations are scheduled on the third Monday of the month* at 6:30 p.m. at rotating sites throughout the community. * Mayor’s Community Conversations in January is on the fourth Monday due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Hey guys here is some information you can pass on to the residents at any upcoming meetings you may be attending. I have a report of hubcaps being stolen from a vehicle over off 200 Block of S Hite. The victim saw a white male parked next to her vehicle and he had hubcaps to her vehicle in his arms. Initially she didn’t realize he had taken them from her car. She noticed that there were two bikes in the back his truck as well (probably stolen). He is a white male about 20 to 30 years of age, about 5-10 to 6’ tall with an average build. He is also clean-shaven. That is all that she could see or recall about him. The truck he was driving is a black regular cab pickup. She doesn’t know the make or model, but added that it was well kept and had shiny black paint and was not junk truck. Thanks...

Message from vice-president Kathy Schmitt

Congratulations!
We raised $585.00 for the police patrol on Halloween.As promised, all money collected over the $400 needed to pay for the police, will be applied to 2009 Police Patrol.

So we have $185.00 to apply to next year. It will be turned over to Brian Butler - CHCC treasurer tonight (also a Hillcrest Avenue resident) and deposited into a Crescent Hill account.

Many thanks also to those of you who donated a barricade, cones and parking spots to the police on Halloween night.

Thanks to our Hillcrest Avenue artist, Kathleen Ritter, who creatively painted the Ghoul Garbage boxes. Hopefully, it encouraged more use of them. Her husband Bill collected the garbage boxes and will store them for next year.

Thanks also to several members of Grace Church Louisville on Crescent Avenue. Evidently they were out on Saturday morning cleaning up. Thank you if you organized that.

If you have any concerns, unusual events on Halloween, got great pictures, etc., please forward them to me. All-in-all a relatively quiet night and thankfully an early one too.

Crescent Hill Library to be featured on
KET’s Louisville Life

The Crescent Hill Library just celebrated its 100th year of service to the community and Louisvillians are taking notice. The Library will be featured on an upcoming episode of KET’s Emmy Award-winning program Louisville Life. The segment will look not only at the history of the Crescent Hill Library, but also the first one hundred years of the Louisville Free Public Library system, and the vital role it continues to plays in our community.

Louisville Life is dedicated to showing what is distinctive about Louisville, its neighborhoods, people, and must-see attractions. The show is produced locally and hosted by Candyce Clifft.

The episode featuring the Crescent Hill Library will premiere Thursday, November 6, at 7:30 p.m.

Award-winning teen author John Green and his internet-phenom songwriting brother Hank are coming to the Main Library Wednesday, November 5 at 7:00 p.m. for an evening you won't forget. To learn more and get your free tickets, click here.
