Although every other entry in the series has appeared on a Sony console, Star Ocean: The Last Hope is currently scheduled to only be released on the XBox 360. Apparently this is down to the fact that the 360 is easier to develop for – something which has been noted by one or two other companies previously.

This fifth installment features more of a science fiction emphasis than past titles, with the ability to control your own ship, and the battle system now includes four party members. Serving as a prequel, the events depicted take place a few centuries before Star Ocean in approximately the year 2097.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope £17.99

XBox 360 owners should be happy to hear that their version of Tomb Raider: Underworld is going to get some exclusive downloadable content, in the form of a couple of extra levels. Damn Sony and their tightfisted ways!

This doesn’t mean to say that PS3 owners should ignore this at all, because it’s quite possibly the best outing for Lara Croft since the original. Great graphics and exploration potential, plus an easy control scheme, make this a joy from beginning to end.

Tomb Raider: Underworld £7.73

Similar to the previous entries in the series, Unreal Tournament III is primarily an online multiplayer title offering several game modes, including large-scale Warfare, Capture-the-Flag, and Deathmatch. An extensive offline single-player game with an in-depth story is also to be found, advancing from the simple tournament ladder to such concepts as team members with their own individual personalities.

Sadly the XBox 360 version does not support user-generated mods, which is a disappointment when you consider that the PlayStation 3 release does. Apart from this minor drawback, it’s one of those excellent games that first-person shooter fans will enjoy a great deal.

Unreal Tournament III £7.73

While football fans have the FIFA series and American football followers have the Madden games, for many years viewers of the "sweet science" had to make do with some rather shoddy titles – that is, until E.A. Sports decided to unleash Fight Night on the world.

Fight Night Round 4 is the latest entry, and is very probably the best so far. 48 licensed fighters are included (such as Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali) and a wide range of different modes mean that you’ll be coming back to this one for some time to come.

Fight Night Round 4 £29.85

Red Faction: Guerrilla is the third installment in the first-person shooter series, and the first to appear on next-generation consoles. The PS3 release was originally delayed for some time in order to get the most out of the system – and I can only say that it was definitely worth it, as this looks and sounds fantastic (as too does the XBox 360 version).

Set 50 years after the climatic events of the very first Red Faction, this allows you to take the role of an insurgent fighter with the newly re-established movement as they battle for liberation from the the oppressive Earth Defence Force…

Red Faction: Guerrilla From £17.99

If you’ve got an XBox 360 Elite console and you’re after an additional controller, then the XBox 360 Elite Wireless Controller is exactly what you need. You don’t need to be an Elite owner to get one either, it just looks better with it (they’re the same colour, you see).

This is very much improved over the stupidly chunky original XBox design, which looked absolutely terrible. Buttons are nicely positioned, and the two joysticks are in equally decent places on the pad.

In a move that might annoy some people, Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits is out now – and contains songs from almost every other title in the series, except that this time they are all based on master recordings and include support for full band play.

48 songs have been taken from Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, Guitar Hero: Rocks The 80s, Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock and Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, and rejigged to play in an identical fashion to Guitar Hero: World Tour.
