I will write a post mortem on the Wildkits' season and post some of my favorites snaps of the year sometime later this week but for now here are the pictures from my evening in Skokie.

I have a ton of photos to share but not enough time tonight to get them all posted.

Until I can get the rest online here are two images- one pregame and one postgame.

Pocket Wizards are small radio transmitters that allow a photographer to fire a camera that is situated in another location.

I will use the Pocket Wizards at the Olympics to set up a remote camera at the finish line during track and field events but I also hope to create some other unique images with them as well.

I practiced with them today by placing a camera in the back corner of the opposing goal during Evanston's 5-0 win over Richwoods in an IHSA regional semi-final.

Everything went very smoothly except the action never really came together to make a dynamic image.

The major issue today was that in order to photograph the entire goal area I had to use a wide angle lens on my camera. The wide angle allowed me to photograph all the plays in the goal mouth but also made the action seem very far away. The only play that really filled the frame wasn't even a play. It was when a ball from an adjacent lacrosse practice ended up in the goal and a Richwoods player called timeout to retrieve it.

Oh well, on Friday I plan on shooting a bit tighter so that I can get that tremendous action shot that I envisioned today.

The Wildkits beat a tough Sandburg eleven by the score of 2-0.

It was the most physical match that I have seen this season as the refs really let the girls play.

The game was played under a fabulous sky with some gorgeous light shining through in the 2nd half.

Each of the five seniors- Linnea Carlson, Kristine Horwitz, Anna Kennedy, Samantha Bates and Megan Vandehey- opened a special gift bag from the team's juniors.

Tons of inside jokes and tons of laughs.

The first part is coverage of a par 3 soccer golf tourney that coach Marx Succes conjured up for the girls.

The course consisted of 4 holes. The first hole finished at the corner flag. The second hole was completed when the ball hit the net's crossbar. The third hole concluded at the O in Evanston on the front of the grandstand. The fourth and final hole started with a kick through the grandstand entrance way and ended at the locker room door.

Silliness abounded.

Due to a scheduling conflict (I had to shoot the Chicago Bears' rookie mini-camp in Lake Forest), I arrived just as Evanston was being named champions. Oops!

So, here is all I have.

1) Wildkits' captain Linnea Carlson receiving the championship plaque from coach Marx Succes.

2) Megan Vandehey's muddy face.

It was worth the drive though just to hear the humorous exchange between Carlson and Succes as the plaque changed hands.

Succes- "I try to give you a trophy and you'd rather be eating nachos.

Carlson- "I have my priorities, you know?

Aaaah...good times.

The Wildkits battled hard but seemed out of synch and a step behind all afternoon.

They try again on Saturday when they play twice.

After a scoreless 1st half, the Wildkits came out inspired in the 2nd half and scored two quick goals, one each by Margaret Head and Moriah Gelder.

Maine South came back with a score off of a header by Jenna Shemky to cut the lead in half but the Wildkits held on for the victory.

Keeper Anna Kennedy played another suberb match as Evanston heads into the Palatine tournament this weekend with a head of steam.
