Time for a quick geography/science lesson. Australia is located in the Southern Hemisphere - when it's winter here it's summer down under - this means while Northerners show Fall 13 collections Aussie designers send Spring/Summer 13/14 looks down the runways.

But, I bet you knew that already.

What you might not have know is that Toni Maticevski is a genius {or maybe you did - but I didn't...} I didn't, that is, until I found myself browsing his latest collection on Vogue Australia's site.

Get ready for a journey through beautifully draped fabrics, sculpted into gorgeous flowing gowns. When I dream about fashion, this is what it looks like.

Last Night at the Met...

I love fashion, I love theme parties, so it goes without saying that the Met Galla is kind of my jam. I'm sure you've heard - the theme this year was PUNK: From Chaos to Couture. Imagine all the biggest starts of film & fashion all together and punked-out. Even I had a mini-punk period when I painted my nails black and dyed purple streaks in my hair - SO anti-establishment...

Some embraced the theme:

SJP in Giles Deacon & a Philip Treacy headpiece, Anne in vintage Valentino, Madona in Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci, Nina in Monique Lhuillier, Cara in Burberry, Gwen in Margiela

and then a couple just ignored the theme entirely. {but still looked fab!}

I have to admit, when the news broke that the Duchess was preggers I was pretty bummed. Sure, babies are great and all, but a part of me mourned the loss of my fave fashion icon and inspiration. Luckily HRH has proven me wrong by wearing amazingly chic ensembles even while pregnant.

So here's to 2 years of Princess fashion. Happy anniversary Will & Kate!

I think it is now, finally, safe to say that Spring is officially here. The days are longer than the nights, the high temp broke 60 in NYC yesterday and above all - baseball season has begun.

So let's dive right in to Spring style!!

A couple weeks ago I attended the first ever runway show for Lauren Ralph Lauren - a fabulous fete at the Hearst Tower here in NYC.

I'm gonna be honest here - this line is pretty much the inspiration for everything I will wear this Spring. Everything. Everyday. Everywhere.

Dots, stripes and blazers. Done AND done.

One of the {many} things I love about fashion month is discovering new {at least new-to-me} designers! Frankly - I am not sure how I have been in the dark about RAOUL for so long {they were founded in 2002} ESPECIALLY since HRH Kate Middleton has worn pieces from their collections.
And after seeing what they have coming for Fall 13 - let's just say I'm obsessed.

SO good right? Totally wearable with just the right amount of luxe. Oh and PS - they're at Bloomingdales. Shopping spree anyone?

Raise your hand if you watched the Oscars last night! Did you make it to the end? I barley did... can you imaging sitting though that wearing a couture gown? Yikes!
While we're on the subject of gowns ;) let's take a look at the stars of the red carpet. Sadly, we saw very little color last night - but lots of blushes, nudes and metallics.

A// Miss Saldana wore Alexis Mabille B// Naomi Watts {best total look of the night!} was in an edgy Armani Privé with a perfectly undo up-do C// and Charlize Theron rocked her new buzz cut with some Dior!

The carpet wasn't totally void of color - D// Reese Witherspoon wore cobalt Louis Vuitton {picked by her daughter Ava...!} and E// Kerry Washington wore a "coral situation" by Mui Mui

Jennifer Lawrence didn't pick the dresses I wanted her to wear - but she is so awesome I have to forgive her. #1- we learned she is BFFs w/ style star Emma Stone and #2 - she did not seem phased at all when she fell on her way to receive her Oscar! She also looked stunning in the Dior gown she did pick - I didn't notice last night, but it is dual-toned - a pale pink body with a white flounce!

I am practically giddy with excitement for this weekend - Why? You might ask, well I'll tell you.

IT'S THE OSCARS!

That's right ladies and gentlemen the Academy Awards are upon us. Some people predict who will win the gold statues, I however predict red carpet dresses. This year there are some very fashionable ladies nominated and red carpet coverage is sure to be thrilling!

Miss Lawrence has been rocking a lot, a LOT of Dior on the red carpet lately. So I think it's safe to say we'll see her in another from the French design house at the Oscars.

I'd love to see Jennifer in option one with a slight alteration - a full length skirt. And option two would look amazing styled with statement heels and a bright necklace.

The magnificent Jessica Chastain tends to stick with simple silhouettes, but she doesn't shy away from color. My Oscar picks for her take this into consideration - but kick things up a little, it is the Oscar's after all...

Option one from Marchesa's fall collection has classic lines, but the embroidery and draping add mega drama. Option two is an Elie Saab dream - she can totally rock the plunging neck line, and the color would look stunning with her red locks!

And moving on to Anne. Oh Anne! Ever since her Les Mis pixie cut Miss Hathaway has been keeping her red carpet looks simple and chic. But she's also been one to take risks in the past, so maybe she will again for the Oscars?

Not much of a risk - Option One sticks to the simple look she's been wearing, but brings a lot of color and sparkle. Option two however might be my #1 favorite - pants under fab full skirt with a glittery bodice? YES PLEASE!

That was fun, yes? Goody. I have a whole list of other dresses I want to see on the Red Carpet, maybe I'll share that soon. ;)

I've long been searching for a cute, compact camera bag that I can tote to events {including fashion shows!} This chic little bag totally fits the bill. It may seem a little bit late to start sharing New Year's resolutions... and I'm not - per-say - they are more like goals! Blog goals! I'm not sure that I have had real goals for the blog, so this is exciting!

Goal #1 - A look that I Love. I've been tinkering with the design of Chicasaurus-Rex for a few years now, but I've never been 100% happy with it. SO - this year I've been working on ideas for a new design, taking what I love about the blog currently but still mixing things up. Here's the inspiration:

Goal #2 - Be consistent. At least, MORE consistent I'm not saying that I am going to post everyday of the week, but I want to have some sort of regular schedule. 2 posts a week seems like a decent goal to me. More if I am feeling up to it - but at least 2 a week!

Goal # 3 - Network, network, network!! At least, on-line.... I want to find the time to read other blogs, and leave comments! I'm always upset that I don't get many comments on my blog, but I NEVER {ok, almost never} leave comments on other blogs - so why should people comment on mine? This year I'm going to spread the love!!

That's just a little taste....! Can't wait to get the new design up and running! Happy 2013 all!

Red Carpet Ready // 3

With all my talk of Award Season, I figure it's high time I share what I would be wearing if I hit the Red Carpet for and Award Show!
Here are my style picks for the Golden Globes {a little late... but hey.} I wanted to go classic - with a twist. SO - I picked simple accessories, I envision a simple up-do {maybe similar to Amy Pohler's} and a slight smokey eye.
I picked this Katie Ermilio dress because I love the shape of the skirt, and the short sleeves. I also like the idea of wearing a new designer on the Red Carpet {and HEY it just happen to be featured on R29 today!}!

Golden Globes!! Golden Globes!!

Alright kids - let's break this down. All the big stars {ok, ok, most of them} hit the red carpet last night for the Golden Globes. And like every good fashion blogger I MUST share my opinions.
Overall the red carpet was a little bit of a yawn-fest; soooo many nudes, reds, and blacks that only a few stood out... BUT let's address those stand outs, shall we?

Marion Cotillard can do no wrong in my book, last night was no exception in this bright Dior dress. Allison Williams is quickly becoming my favorite fasionista {coming soon - a post dedicated just to her} she looked FAB in J. Mendel. And as for the nudes - Kerry Washington stood out in a delicate Mui Mui frock.

I love seeing Lady Mary in modern day garb, her Alexandre Vauthier dress was simply stunning! Lucy Liu brought a little pattern to the party in one of my fave Carolina Herrera pre-fall ball gowns. And Anne, oh Anne. The definition of chic simplicity in Chanel.

I was on the fence about Amy Adams in this Marchesa dress, but it's really grown on me. The fit is perfect and it is very pretty... maybe it's just the color throwing me off. And OK Katharine McPhee - you are HOT. That's all. And to end things out Naomi Watts was straight-up glamorous in Zac Posen. WOW.
