Another epic BN show in Philly. I showed up early and met some really cool people before the show and traded bracelets. There was a weather delay which is exactly what happened at last year’s show but we did get a full show (maybe a couple less songs.) I did peep previous setlists and was really excited for the Deja set to open. And then all the YFW for the end. After last year’s shows I am just so appreciative of being able to see these songs again and to be in a crowd with people who GET IT. Also the production is next level. Go look at the vids of Degausser if you want a good sample.

Jesse continues to be nostalgic and appreciative when taking to the crowd. Snippets of that also on my insta.

Next show for me will be in Vegas in 3 weeks!

Bought a ticket for this show on a whim because there was a single aisle seat in the second row of the floor. This venue is a mile away from me (it’s the Temple University arena) so that was also a factor. And even though I was probably the only person my age that wasn’t with their teenager I had a really fun night. Set list first.

This was only the second night of the American tour and not having a point of reference besides her live albums, I thought it was a great show. The crowd was super hyped and it was fun to see all the audience participation around me (singing, phone flashlights up, jumping/dancing). The level of production was also more intricate than I expected with a faux electric tower and light lines draped across the stage (Powerlines tour!) Beabadoobee actually climbed up the tower and sang from a little catwalk during Powerlines. Definitely enjoyed this out of my comfort zone show and would definitely see her again!

This venue is one of three at this location in Underground Atlanta and only holds 600 people. It was pretty full but not officially sold out. Luke and the band were fun and this set list was a little more lively then when I saw them last year at Humphrey’s in San Diego. Just a couple of notes, before Sail Away, Luke said he wrote it about his wife. And we were all a little (pleasantly) surprised by the Beatles cover.

Same set list from ATL but the big difference was there were no projection screens. Our seats weren’t as good but this was a smaller venue and we did have an unobstructed view. HOWEVER it was raining off and on most of the night so there’s that. This crowd was fantastic in spite of the weather, the singalong for Hard was the firat song I really felt it. Hayley talked more during the show. A FUCK ICE during Ice in My OJ and the commentary of “the greatest threat to democracy is Christian nationalism” before True Believer. She also introduced R/L/V/I with “rain brings flowers”. I loved seeing the crowd put phones up for this song, along with Dream Girl. But the best crowd moment of the night was Hayley having us sing the second verse of Parachute. We did good! And I cried! So happy I was able to go to these shows.

First time seeing HW perform live as a solo artist and I was PUMPED. We had decent seats (near the back of the seated section) and had great views/sound. There were lots of songs that had prerecorded background projections but we also got some live video projected on the stage and side screens. I’m writing this after going to a second show so we did get some ATL only things like a “For Dolly” before Ego Death and lots of Atlanta shoutouts. The Wandering Star (Portshead) intro to Simmer was a standout: as was the Nina Simone cover. It was just so amazing to finally see these songs live for the first time.

I got distracted and am just getting around to posting about the Andrew McMahon Three Pianos show last week. For background, he wrote an autobiography centered around the three pianos he used for his bands (Something Corporate + Jack’s Mannequin + his solo/In the Wilderness material.) Last year he played a Red Rocks show and this year Philly got the opening show of a three date mini tour. Lucky us!

So yes, he played for over three hours. What an epic set! The second set was not what he played at Red Rocks so that was a surprise. Also a surprise (that they actually did it again) was Will and Brian’s acoustic cover of Sisqó’s Thong Song. (Yes you read that right, check the insta for it.) I got lots of my faves: Holiday From Real (with epic audience participation), Mixed Tape, High Dive, She Paints Me Blue and of course my all time fave Punk Rock Princess. Andrew did come out to crowd surf on the inflatable duck during Island Radio and also went up to a mini stage in the crowd for The Astronaut. Just a lot of really fun moments and an incredible night for his fans. Also Andrew told us that this show was the largest they had ever played.

Metric is touring material off their latest album (SIX SONGS!) and honestly it didn’t feel like it because these just worked in seamlessly with old favorites. Emily was super talkative and told us we were an amazing crowd plus said things like “maple syrup love on a Tuesday night in Philadelphia” which absolutely made sense in the moment. I loved that she rigged up her keyboard so that she could wheel it around, so critical for the vibe of some songs. For Loyal, Stars and BSS came out and it was a perfect way to see the love these bands have for each other. Just a really fun night.

We were slightly late so we missed the first couple of songs but were in our spot for ELL. This short and sweet set had all the highs and lows of a Stars show. Torq was his usual enthusiastic self, telling us “we’re coming correct tonight” and “we’re not fucking around”. Amy told us that her life began in grade 11 when she was lost looking for music class and Emily saw her and showed her where to go. Also Amy and Kevin met at summer camp! I knew they had all known each other back in the day but didn’t know all that! Anyways it was a great start to a great night.

Furst thing I noticed when they came out was that Michael had a full band with him. On previous tours he definitely relied on some form of electronic wizardry so that was different. He did confirm later in the set that this was the first time he toured this way. It was great to see how well he and the band gelled. He also told us that this was the “happiest I’ve ever been” and I believe it! The crowd was amazing, just full or energy and Michael told us a few times that we were fun and that we “fucking rule”.

They did play a new song and Michael said a new album was forthcoming (after nine years he emphasized). He also thanked us for being kind to listen to the new song. When he came out for the encore and started with an acoustic song he told us “ it wouldn’t be a PP show without some kind of torture.” That kinda killed me because torture for whom? Anyways a fun show and video on my insta if you eant to peep.

The setlist has been consistent on this tour. Before going into BA, Jim told us that they were going to play songs they were doing before the album, which made me, a Clarity diehard, very happy. BA itself has a great track listing. I mean Praise Chorus into The Middle is just such a high. Your House starts with Jim solo on his acoustic with the full band, which was a nice change of pace. Then Sweetness which is such a great song. I am also a huge fan of If You Don’t, Don’t. After the BA set, they came out for the encore of the post BA era songs (I know Jim’s Futures guitar very well), along with STT which was written for BA but never released. A really nice experience celebrating an emo classic. Glad I’ll be getting two more of these shows!

Sad this tour is over for me. I really enjoyed these songs live, especially Slow Dancing With San Andreas and Palm Reader. This crowd was PUMPED and sang every song and did it well.

The big question of the night was what we’d get for our encore. Before the show the band posted a video with Sister Cities playing and the conspiracy theorist in me thought maybe we’d get something from that and we sure did. Dan told us we were the only crowd getting these encore songs (Raining in Kyoto and the old school Philly ain’t there no more Melrose Diner). What a great ending to a great tour!

Friday night crowd was ROWDY. I thought vibes were off at first when Michael (drunmer) showed up with his shirt on but it came off a few songs in. Balcony view has been great (I had second row this time.) Not much new going on except Dan actually pointed to the Jason Aalon Butler hologram during Stained Glass Ceilings. SGC and Palm Reader have been so good to watch on this tour. My last show of the tour is tonight and I’m hoping for a surprise in the second set.
