Escalate Conference

I heard about the Escalate conference last week – as much as I wanted to be there in person, it wasn’t meant to be. Dane Sanders had other ideas – he made it possible for anyone to attend the conference for free via ustream. If that wasn’t the most brilliant thing I had ever heard!

To say that this conference was thought provoking was an understatement. It spun me upsidedown, sideways, and totally altered my perceptions not only of the business of photography in general, but how I thought of my own business.

This was the incredible lineup:

Dane Sanders – duh
[b]ecker - his [b] school is AMAZING
Jasmine Star - you live under a rock if you don’t know THIS fab chick!
Julieanne Kost - photoshop extrordinaire!
Jerry Ghionis – blew me away
Jessica Claire - changed how I see the value of my images
David Jay – possibly the nicest person on the planet
Jeremy Cowart - the literal definition of celebrity photographer, and tied with David Jay for nicest person living

If I had to pick one session that really made me go “WHOA” – it would have to be Jerry. He laid out a way to approach ANY session or subject and to use the light in such a unique way that even the LIGHT didn’t even know it could be so good. But honestly, I learned something from each speaker, and I have the 20 pages of notes to prove it!

Thank you so much Dane for allowing those of us who couldn’t attend Escalate to be able to participate. One of the best parts was all the networking going on on ustream with those of us in the chat room – I wager there will be quite a few working relationships built from that room – I know I made a few friends in there!
