The ZOO!!!

Had a great time at the zoo!! The Naturalist told us about Lance and Morgan - the Zoo's two Crocodiles. Lance is 20 years old. He is 12 feet long and 340 pounds! Morgan is 23 years old. She is much smaller: only 7-8 feet long and 180 pounds! They eat only once a week and have a diet of fish and rats. They continuously lose and replace their teeth - going through about 3000 of them in a lifetime. To top off the visit, we had the unusual opportunity of hearing Lance roar not once, but 3 times!!!

Camp begins soon!! I hope you're excited because it will be a lot of fun this year. You'll be hearing and acting out Bible stories, playing games, making crafts, going on adventures, and you can't forget the food!!

Below you will find some pictures that you can print out and color - copy and paste them into MS Word or Publisher for best results - that are related to our them this year from 1 John 3:1 - "How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!" If you memorize this verse by the first day of VBS

Day 4! I Will Hasten and Not Delay...

So today was Day 4 of Vacation Bible School/Summer GIFT. Today our choice was "Choose to Obey," hence our song, "I will hasten and not delay to obey God's commands!" This was also our verse of the day! As you can see, the kids had a GREAT time singing this song, and this was only about the 2nd time through it!We learned the story of the Rich Young Ruler (remember him? He's the one about whom Jesus said, "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven." Yikes!) We learned about how God wants us to love him more than ANYTHING else--more than our stuff, more than our money, more than EVERYTHING!! God is the MOST important thing in our lives, and to get to heaven, we have to love him and obey him and obey the people who are trying to help us get to heaven, like our parents.Today in the younger grades, we made awesome foam Prayer Mats. Some of the middle grades also made cool view finders with yesterday's story of the Paralyzed Man to help us remember what we learned. And our oldest kids made these amazing rubber beanie balls out of balloons and rice. We all made masks for our Theme Park Mascots, and we played some fun games and had another great snack! It was a great day! Ask your child to tell you all about it.See you tomorrow for our last day at SonWorld Adventure Park! And don't forget your tickets--our General Store will be OPEN for business!

A Volunteer's Perspective

This is one of our AMAZING teen volunteers. She was the group leader for the pre-school group, and she did a FABULOUS job!! The teens totally saved VBS this week!Truthfully, our adult volunteers were rather sparse this year--the ones we had were amazing, we just didn't have many. But the teens TOTALLY stepped up and saved the day. We had 15-20 teenagers who came, led games and songs, acted as group leaders and helpers, and so much more. They've been awesome! Thanks, everyone!

VBS, Day 3!

Today we learned the story of Jesus and the Paralyzed Man. We learned about how his friends helped the paralyzed man to get to Jesus by tearing the roof off the house Jesus was staying at and lowering their friend down to be healed. Jesus told him, "Your sins are forgiven," and so we talked about our Daily Choice today, Choose Forgiveness. We also talked about how we can choose forgiveness in our own lives, whether that means asking for forgiveness when we've hurt someone, or giving forgiveness when someone has hurt us. We also talked about how we can ask Jesus for forgiveness, especially through the Sacrament of Reconciliation.The Pre-School kids made some AWESOME Busy Bees on sticks that follow their every move! The kids in the middle grades made rocket mobiles that looked pretty darn cool, and our oldest kids made photo frames out of rolled paper. Pretty darn awesome! EVERYONE got to try their hand at making a wacky hat or headband to wear, and boy were they sporting some great fashions! We also learned a new song, "Tear the Roof Off," did some more "Love, Liberty, Disco," and much more. Can't wait to see what tomorrow has in store!

I promise I didn't coach him! But isn't that a great answer? He's having a great time! Yay!They made rocket mobiles today, and they were VERY popular with all the kids. And they're all doing their best to collect as many tickets as possible so they can buy stuff from the general store on Friday! They're VERY excited about this! Keep earning those tickets, kids!

Snack time and crafts! Of course! (She had an explanation for why these were her favorites, but I accidentally cut her off before she had a chance to tell me. Oops! I'm sure they were great reasons! (Like because our snacks and crafts are AWESOME!))
