C.O.P. Night at the Federal Heights Chick-fil-A

Every Tuesday night at the Federal Heights Chick-fil-A is Family night!

Children's Outreach Project will be hosting the May 21st Family Night. As a part of the evening, participants will decorate Bird Masks in order to put imagination in flight!

Families who come into the restaurant on these nights receive:

FREE Chick-fil-A Nuggets Kids Meal with purchase of an entree
FREE Kid's Icedream Cup or Cone

2013 Annual Breakfast

Children’s Outreach Project hosted a successful 4th Annual Breakfast meeting on May 3rd, 2013. Over $10,000 was raised to support high quality early childhood education programming! The event was sponsored by the DoubleTree Hotel Denver-Westminster, Mountain States Employers Council, and FirstBank.

The event featured keynote speaker Dr. Jamie Van Leeuwen, Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor John Hickenlooper. Dr. Van Leeuwen provided examples of high quality early childhood education’s ability to break the poverty cycle in both the Denver area, as well as in the rest of the world.

Mary Anne Snyder, Director of the Office of Early Childhood Education, provided an overview of the state of early childhood education in Colorado. She explained that while Colorado is fortunate to be receiving federal Race to the Top funding, incidents of abuse and poverty among children under the age of six is still too prevalent.

Spring Classroom Activities

Our school has been very busy with environment related activities!

As the grass begins to green around our school, each classroom begins studying how things grow.

The Preschool 4 classroom is collecting its leftovers from lunch. These scraps are then deposited in the compost bin on our eco-classroom.
Each classroom is starting to plant seeds to grow fruits, vegetables, and flowers in their classroom.
Both the Half Day Preschool and Preschool 3 classrooms are raising baby ladybugs! They started as larvae but have recently transformed into little pink ladybugs!

AmeriCorps Day of Service

We were pleased to welcome Corps Members of the AmeriCorps *NCCC Southwest Region. Members of Fire Unit Team 7 visited classrooms on Friday, March 15th to help make cards for wounded veterans. The cards will be distributed at the VA Hospital.

The Corps Members are a part of class 19a at the Denver campus. Beginning last fall, they have been serving at projects throughout the South-West. Currently the team is assisting with the tax filing of low-income individuals throughout Denver. Their service year runs through July 26, 2013.

Kindergarten Families Create Leprechaun Traps!

Each month the families of students in the Kindergarten classroom complete a project together. Each family's project is then brought into the classroom to display (remember we showed off the family haunted houses on our Facebook page in October).

For March, leprechaun traps were made and put on display in the classroom. Families put blinking lights on some of them. Other families reused materials from previous class projects. Altogether, they were very impressive! Be sure to flip through all of the images in the gallery below.

The Positives of Play Dough

Creating with play dough is a very common activity among students at Children's Outreach Project. Seems fairly obvious right? But have you thought of how play dough can have an effect on the skill development of a young child?
